Why is Uwe Boll making a Holocaust Film?

We all know Uwe Boll isn't known for his stellar film record, especially when it comes to video game adaptions. But his next film, Auschwitz looks in detail at the atrocities of the holocaust.

What caught my attention about this was when he said that the critically acclaimed Schindler's List did not appeal to younger generations. Schindler's List to me is an iconic film, not just because of it's source material, but it's just amazing piece of cinematography.

I've recently watched the film trailer as well and can't believe how disturbing it is. Apparently many critics have boycotted the film already, but what's your opinion on it?

Its nothing personal about Boll, but i'm not exactly filled with confidence when you look at his Filmography.

I have no idea who he is but I feel like we already have a good number of these kinds of movies (that did it well). I don't really think there's much room for innovation in this genre of film.

Rampage was apparently actually not that bad, and since it wasn't a video game adaptation, I could see Auschwitz working out.

Uwe Boll is the German asshole who ruined all of the best arcade games from the mid-90's, and a terribly unimaginative twat -- but he knows all this, and does it anyway because he's also a troll.

Good on the critics who boycott him, even if their reasons are flawed; they shouldn't be boycotting his movie because they expect it to be bad, or because, as I expect, some of them find a certain unease in the idea of a German making an intentionally more visceral holocaust movie. They *should* be boycotting him because of his track record of awful, youth-shattering tripe, but I digress.

I've stretched this post out -way- too long now, so let me sum it up: Uwe Boll is a twat.

Uwe Boll is known for his Video game film adaptions, Such as House of Dead, Alone in the Dark and Bloodrayne. All his adaptions were a bust, both financially and critically by audiences. Seriously check the trailers and responses on youtube.

Blizzard refused to sell him the rights to a WOW film and said "No... especially not to you".

really? he actually woke up one morning and thought, "hey, you know what this world needs? a Holocaust movie with youth-appeal! we'll throw in a bunch of fight scenes, explosions, and scantily-clad young women. that Oscar is MINE!"

he has no where near the talent to undertake a film like this,
and how exactly can he make it 'appeal' to the youth, god he is such an arsehole,
and what arrogance he shows by even implying he could make a film that would even be compared to such a classic, i really cant stand the man

You mean it wasn't about a giant ape, lizard, and wolf destroying the world's cities? Awww man.

Though looking at his film list he has a few titles of questionable sensitive material. Not quite Holocaust sensitive, but still...

You know, I'm surprised there hasn't been a film adaptation of Captain Killdozer yet.

Aren't Holocaust movies (or rather, WW2 movies) the kind of movies that get nominated for those big awards that don't really matter? What is it...Academy Award I think...It could be he's after one of those dealies.

It's his absolute right to make it, history belongs to everyone, as do freedom of expression.

It'll probably be a tasteless artistically bankrupt mess, but all anyone need to do is to not go see it; problem solved!

Okay.... So he's decided to make a movie about the holocaust...

I don't think this'll be good.
Not good at all.

I don't... understand.

He wants the Holocaust to appeal to children?

The hell with Uwe Boll and everything he does, it's atrocious and he knows it.

Oh, and for the record, I was 17 when I saw Schindler's List and I loved it. Shows what he knows about 'younger generations'.

The critics aren't boycotting it because its bad, their doing it because the trailer is so brutal. Its hard to say what "good brutal" is. But it seems Boll is only being graphic for the sake of being graphic, not for it to be only tolerated in a film to convey meaning. it looks to be only shock factor he's after.

Thats what i have a hang up about. I just wondered what fellow escapists thought about it, since Boll has created the worst of all video game adaptions, is it fair to be against him making a holocaust film? or are we right to be skeptical.

Because Uwe Boll runs on controversy. He wouldn't make as many trash films and make as much noise if no-one paid him any attention.

But they do, so this happens. More to come.

Most of the time they don't any more. In one of his last films he had to ask his "fans" for donations.
