The war has begun. We can't let this happen. We can't let some 60 year old farts make decisions about things they don't understand. And we can't let America police the entire world. Those Megaupload guys were from New Zealand and they were arrested because U.S. officials said so. This is war ladies and gentlemen.

Anonymous is simply biding its time...

They're readying their gear, prepping their tactical units, loading & checking of their weapons.
They're securing their lines, lining the shores with mines & hidden patrols in ghillie suits.
They've enhanced security inside their fortresses with automated turrets, IR security sensors, hidden traps & more. And that's just them reinforcing their bases.

They've got their first strike teams ready to lead the first assault, followed by their special operatives until the big guns arrive... and then it's on...

...but that's only if SOPA/PIPA passes.

Its already begun they've been hitting websites all today. From what I recall, the Motion Pictures site has been shut down, and a couple government ones.

You know we could take advantage of their bad press. We could ask them to support the bill then everyone would be like oh no cyber terrorists want it cancel the bill!!!!!!

And do what? Congress is a physical establishment and they are known for virtual terrorism activism. The best they can do is take down a congressman's website, which wouldn't do much.

because they like to wait until the situation calls to make them look like a crusader of good and virtue they like to think they are.

They probably know that most people hate them and if they want SOPA and PIPA to not pass they're not going to mention it so the side that wants to pass it getsanymore support from the 1000's of people who hate them.

They have caused what I believe to be more harm than good (I could be wrong). I believe if they got involved it would be bad for our position. They are not looked at very well, especially to those who are actually considering the bill.

at this point they would make things worse

how ever I would not be surprised that if it did somehow pass that they would cause chaos on govement sites

Don't know, but fun fact: yesterday there was a news report on CNN that claimed anonymous was behind the blackouts......yeah, just goes to show how much news reporters know about the internet.

Remember this; they are regarded by the American Government as little more than cyber terrorists. Having them oppose a bill would give senators a strong reason to support the bill (the enemy of my enemy is my friends).
Naw, doesn't really work like that. Congress wouldn't be scared off from not supporting a bill just because some idiot hackers came out against it, too. Just like liberal congresspeople don't vote for wars just because racist morons like David Duke and Alex Jones are against them.
Actually, that sort of is how it works. As a rule, governments don't give in to terrorists. If they do, that legitimises terror as a way of terrorists getting what they want.

The example of this I have readily to hand is of the suffragettes in Britain (1911-ish) who commited terrorism (not killing, stuff like vandalism and burning post) to try and get women the vote. However, they actually turned a lot of MPs against the vote, and one of the reasons for this was because if the British government gave in to suffragette terrorism, that would make terrorism seem viable to the Irish nationalists.
It did however bring a lot more attention to the Suffragist movement and I believe without the Suffragettes it may have taken EVEN LONGER for women to get the vote. Now I read it back, it's completely irrelevant to the current situation, so sorry about that. Anyway, yes. The US governments attitude to terrorists would mean it would cause more harm than good, as SOPA and PIPA already have all the attention they need. and anyway, what the hell would they target? They can't do anything off the web, and there aren't really any valid targets, unless they randomly try and hack supporters websites.

Seriously, They've occasionally been dicks and have definitely done stuff to gain the hate of many.
But These two acts are the sum of everything they hate, if they attacked Jean Simmons because went against their ideals, why aren't they attacking something that threatens to destroy the internet by massive Censorship.
Oh and here's another thing
on a different train of thought Who the hell does the US congress think its is? the internet is everywhere, like in Canada. SO they are imposing on international affairs, seriously this isn't legal.
How 'bout now?

Maybe they're actually smart enough to realize how much anything they do would damage the anti-SOPA cause?

Anything they did would be completely counter-productive. You don't show to government that they can trust us with the internet by taking down their websites.

I don't think that i want a bunch of idiotic computer nerds who think that they are some kind of freedom fighters to help us against SOPA and PIPA. I think that we are doing a good job at expressing our anger towards those bills and i don't think that it will pass. Honestly, if Anonymous would help us i don't think that would stop when SOPA and PIPA are dead, i think that they will try to do more.

It's like if a bunch of knights would go into a castle to rescue a princess. DO you think that they would only rescue the princess and then they would just leave ? No, while they are there they would probably start trashing the place.
