Always inside my coat in an inner pocket, in personal space I'm very aware of. Sure I might keep a bill or two in my pockets or back pockets but the whole wallet? Never.

Vancouver taught me about pickpockets when I felt a hand touch my ass very briefly and I found my student ID missing. Fortunately that was only a 20 dollar fix. Good lesson though.

I'm the same way. Phone and keys in one front pocket, wallet in the other.

The only time I use the back pockets are... I guess if I have a piece of paper or something maybe.

Usually my other pockets are full of stuff. Key's, phone, iPod, cigarettes and lighter take up enough space.

Not only is it uncomfortable but in the DC metro area, if you have a Smart-Trip card, those suckers will break like freaking glass if too much pressure if put on it. I'm the same though, I keep my wallet, phone, etc in front pockets. It's more comfortable for me too and, there's a greater sense of security. I will, occasionally, put my phone in an ass-pocket but I'll move it to a front pocket before sitting down.

I love my baggy pants. Question, do people who wear skinny-jeans have pockets...at all? Especially you trendy guys who wear them. Girls can use purses and I guess techies can use messenger bags but do skinny jeans alone have any space at all or, pockets or anything?

I used to keep my stuff in my back pocket. Didn't have a choice since front pockets on girl jeans can't even fit hands (because that's a good idea somehow), and I always hated purses. But then my boyfriend got me this sweet army surplus bag from WWII era at a flea market in Berlin, so now I have the awesomest "purse" ever, and I don't have to keep my stuff in my back pocket anymore!

Because I don't have much money, so if they take it jokes on them I'm broke! I find that it is way easier to get than my front pocket especially if I have my college Id and phone on me.

I keep it in my back pocket just because it sometimes a pain to fit into my other pockets. I want to keep my keys and phone separate so the phone doesn't get scratched to all hell. I imagine sitting on your keys would be uncomfortable and sitting on your phone would be idiotic. I concede to your blind spot thing though. I really don't know a way of getting around it.

My dad said that you'd know if your wallet was gone since the back pocket is usually a tighter fit than the front, and that you were less likely to lose it when you sit down.

Most people don't really have to deal with pickpockets unless they go walking around in public much.

I keep my wallet inside my chest compartment.

yeah I totally agree. I don't understand it either. I have always kept my wallet in my front pocket for those reasons.

I keep mine in my back pocket, but on a chain attached to my belt loop. My pockets are occupied by my ipod, phone, pen, keys, and sometimes other miscellaneous stuff.

i kinda have my wallet decentralized, bank notes over 20? and ids and bank cards and stuff are in my primary wallet which is in my jacket pocket and my secondary pocket which contains coins, small bank notes and tickets of any kind. this I usually keep in my front pocket.

I almost always keep my wallet in my back right pocket so that my keys and ipod can go in my front left pocket and my phone and, usually, an ink pen can go in my front right pocket. The few times that I do put my wallet in a different pocket (hoodie pocket, front pocket or thigh pocket when wearing cargo pants/shorts) I inevitably scare myself by reaching into my empty back pocket and momentarily think that my wallet has been lifted.

I keep my wallet in my front right pocket; phone and keys in my front left. I don't get how people use their back pocket either. I don't know which pocket is easier to steal from, but I do know it's easier for me to check for the wallet's presence in my front pocket, and it's hellishly irritating to sit down with it in the back.

I don't understand how men live without them.
How else can you efficiently carry around all of your useless crap?
We have less useless crap, that's all. I will never understand a woman's handbag. They're all like the Tardis: bigger on the inside than the outside.

When I younger I never used pockets. Later in my teens my jacket pocket held everyday items. Now I have things in my jacket pocket. My mobile phone in my left front pocket and my wallet and any money in my right front pocket. I have only in the last year started to use my back pocket of trash. Since i dont want money mixed up with receipts. I use my phone more as a watch, so going in and out with trash being pulled out.

Aswell as i would never put my wallet in my back pocket. Because its bulky and stealable. I have a key and I keep it in my jacket pocket. I have one key if i had a key ring and such why the hell would I put jaggy sharp things in my back pocket?

Overall everything worth stealing is sealed in my fronts and are so tight it I have to left myself in. So how would a theif get I can take a moment to get my moment, Its not like i need to pull it out in a second flat to save my life? Even muggers will wait a little while.

I've always kept my wallet in my front pocket so it is more comfortable to sit down on a bus or a chair, and I usually walk with my hands in my pockets, so I can hold it and know it is still there.

So yeah, weird quirk of mine I guess. Anyone else do the same? Any other social norms that you find crazy?
i dunno about anyone else but back jean pockets are generally made tighter so you can always feel it pressed against your ass. most of the shorts i own have buttons on those pockets as well, so i can fasten and know its safe. so i dont have to walk around constantly grasping my wallet like a paranoid schizo :/

sorry but you remind me of the museum/facts obsessed kid from Euro Trip.

Back pocket is wallet shaped and usually larger than front pockets, but yes it might not be comfortable to sit on. However, putting my wallet in my front, smaller, tighter pocket is no more comfortable sitting down...except now its not even comfortable standing up, something the back pocket never has any trouble with.

"It's easier to steal" has always come across as something of a strange argument, you would have to be a master to take something out of my back pocket without me noticing the difference and your average chav is no slight of hand expert. secondly, Is it REALLY that common that people steal out of your back pocket? Is it? It's never happened to me nor anyone i've ever known, to be honest it sounds like nothing more than a mothers tale - An over precautionary bullshit exaggerated story meant to make you overly paranoid.

Thirdly, I dont make a habit of carrying around huge wads of cash in my wallet, most of my money is on cards. Anyone who takes my wallet will find that all they've taken is a broken, shit faux leather wallet with £5 worth of coins, a bunch of useless cards and 2 very easily canceled debit cards.

Most people's phones are worth more than the immediate contents of their wallet, and most muggers know this. Guess where most people keep their phone? The front pocket. Guess when it doesn't matter what pocket you've put what in? During your common, garden variety mugging.

Nothing crazy about it, just a personal preference. When I was a wee teenager with very little in his wallet besides a bit of cash, a bank card and an ID, I had a small wallet and it was my back pocket all the time, it has always been this way and was no discomfort to me.

Enter adulthood, with many, many new plastic cards for all kinds of shenanigans and a constant need to keep more cash at hand, because as an adult, you only spend more. So my wallet increased in size and thus the need was born to put it in the inside pocket of my jacket. This is what I perceive of as the main proof of transition from a boy to a man. Forget a lower voice, chest hair and a lower ballsack, the position of the wallet is where it's at.

Thank you for writing that, saved me a bunch of time :D

I just always saw it in movies and such, in the back pocket. The person would reach back and voila. My shirts/coats always cover my butt pretty well so being pocketed would be a bit more obvious. Just something that became the choice of placement for it. My phone and keys go in the front because they are far less comfortable to sit on.
