I suck at math, and languages (especially Spanish) come surprisingly easy to me. I also notice quite a few in this thread have already contradicted this theory. Hmm... interesting.

Not sure if this is generally true or to what extent, but I'm a male who's great at math and iffy at English (I'm in honors courses, just not as good at it as other things). Hell, my 8th grade math class said on a few occasions I should teach the class, though in all fairness, it was a good bit because our teacher after the first one retired was crap.

Other than that bit of ego-inflating, I'll say that in my experience it's not really a subject thing, there are just a group of smart girls who get in honors and AP classes.

Dont ever base a theory on something you observerd in the education system.
Ever.

Its like saying "I saw these two ducks playing in a pond last thursday therefore proving STRING THEORY."

I'm good at both, but much better at maths.
And I like to think it has more to do with my upbringing than my genetics, because the way the education system teaches arts and language is just insulting.

Right versus left sides of the brain. Left is verbal, such as language arts. Right side is math. If you can't do well at verbal, it's called a verbal learnig disorder. If you can't do well at math, it's called a non-verbal learning disability.

*Resists being a jerk for a second*

I think you're observation is actually pretty good. Maybe not necessarily in school subjects but in life a lot of girls I know like to elaborate while all my guy friends and I just want to be done doing whatever we're doing. (i.e. the reason I don't go shopping with my sister anymore)

This may be the first time that I saw a thread that truly could end in two posts. Bravo neutral, bravo.

(If you couldn't tell, I agree with you)

Okay... know explain to me how in the holy mother of fuck that makes any sense?. And what makes you think it's true?, do you have evidence?, a subject perhaps?. I don't know anyone of either gender who fits either description in the least bit or could even have their psyche simplified to that level

Edit: on a side note, most of my male friends hate math

Rofl. Best start to any topic I've read in a while.

Oh, I'm a girl, I suck at math, I'm amazing at language arts, assuming you mean language studies like english, but I'm also quite good at visual and performing arts, too...?

Anyway. Resume.

ok this comes from my friend's dad, who is a language arts teacher, you only need to know 2 things for language arts and that is bull and shit. frankly anyone can be good at it.

women are NOT worse at math than men. there are plenty of examples of girls excelling at math and math related subjects. several computer languages have been developed by women, there's countless female math phd's, one being Dancia McKellar

the main issue is that women are not encouraged to pursue careers in math and sciences
