Interesting topic, it's one I think about in my spare time now and then. I've found that pretty much any specifically female feature can be lead back to the fact that they give birth - which has essentially pushed them into the raising-the-child function which has led them to develop a less agile body but a better susceptability to everything that has to do with communication and emotions.

As to why guys are better in math... Maybe it's because men are more logical than women in that they tend to go straight for their target rather than trying to 'lure' others into giving them what they need to know (Yes "I am so fat!" ladies, I'm talking about you!). It's something I'll have to give more thought, anyway.

As a disclaimer: yes, I realize that single mothers aren't per definition "more emotionally evolved" than men or such. Obviously each person differs and not everything I'm stating there works right here and now. I'm thinking evolution, something that has come into being over the course of ten thousands of years.
Unless your a christian. Then it hasnt been happening at all. BTW, evolution only works if it helps to pass on the genes, and i dont see how emotions would help women pass on their genes.
I CALL BULLSHIT
no evolution is to help whatever animal surivive better its not specific to genes only

okay, so i have no so called "proof" to back myself up but i did say feel free to trash my thread YET nobody realized i said that there might be exceptions and the truth is i was really bored and i thought of this because im really good in math and theres only 1/5 of girls in my honors math course and i havent seen how many are in a regular honors english in my school but ill see once i get back to school in like a week or so, anyways, i still didnt think of looking up anything but i will now and come back to this thread in like 10-30 mins or something to post some facts. btw, please remember that i DID say there were exceptions and that just think or mrpenguinshomeboy's picture but on the flip side. Oh, and also i never said there were NO female mathmaticans or NO male languistics (if thats wat u call them) i just said there were fewer. Now of to the internet!

I have to agree with you fully on this, I think ratinaly (spelling?), I use logic and linearity.

I failed my language arts class because we where doing poetry (I fucking hate you poetry, go die in a whole), it was like, how does the fishes conjunction of the river to the ocean apply to life (a follow up question to a poem). I state that that isnt logical, a fish will live in the river all its life(we WERENT talking about salmon), it may be able to imagine the rivers continuation, but it will never find the vast ocean, nor will it ever imagine it.

I got a 2 hour detention, just because poetry makes NO FUCKING SENCE.

All the girls were like, oh it shows how going from one grade to another is hard, but you will find a open world of new things and knollage, I'm like, WTF, you make no sence.

I hate you poetry, the only poetry that I like are lymerics, because they are awsome, and they usually make some kind of sence.

I think you're observation is actually pretty good. Maybe not necessarily in school subjects but in life a lot of girls I know like to elaborate while all my guy friends and I just want to be done doing whatever we're doing. (i.e. the reason I don't go shopping with my sister anymore)
Its kinda weird, with the shoppig thing. When I go shopping I know what I'm looking for, i find it and maybe take a quick look through out the store if I have any money left.

When I see girls shop, they look at EVERYTHING and then get indicisive on weather or not they should get what they came for, or get something they just found. Or go with both and waste a lot of money.

YES!!! I have facts!!! Here is a Time Magazine article: http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1826399,00.html
And here's what one guy said on a guy's comment on the article, who is actually taking the words of someone online, which is pretty much what i am doing now (which you can find here:
http://giftedkids.about.com/b/2009/06/03/is-there-a-math-gender-gap.htm#gB3):

Ted Murphy says:
This guy refutes the paper:

http://motls.blogspot.com/2008/07/janet-hyde-boys-girls-in-math-not.html

Importantly, he does not deny the accuracy of the authors? statistical findings. Here is the key line:

?Not to be unfair, their paper does mention that in the 99th percentile, they found the boys:girls ratio to be 2.06:1 (and for the 95th percentile, it was 1.45:1). Incidentally, these numbers roughly agree with Figure 2 in La Griffe du Lion?s text about these matters.?

Lets put those numbers into perspective. If you have a 500 person graduating class, with two honors classes of 25 kids each, you might expect from those figures to have 15 boys and 10 girls in each honors class of 25.

So therefore normal math classes should be about 50/50 but honors is slightly tilted to the favor of boys which is what i had in mind at the time, and now that i think of it i shouldve probly made this a poll.

Like several others...

I am absolutely, beyond a doubt, rubbish at math, only pass classes because of a tutor. I am very good at language arts, and though it is far outshined by my aptitude for history, my humanities are way stronger than mathematics and sciences.

Psychological advantages tend to be really minor, and are ultimately fairly pointless in light of the sheer amount of physical and psychological variety of humanity as a whole.
I love this post so much.
It says so much with so little.
It basically discredits the topic's validity without being mean or anything.

.......ok. I don't actually know what you said so I'm not sure if I disagree. Could you clarify what you mean by the things you said, then we can squabble with understanding.

Well, I will say this. I'm very good and Language Arts and help my girlfriend at the subject, while she is much better at math than I am, and she helps me.

Obviously, there would be a few exceptions to your theory, but let's wait and see what everyone says.
"I'm very good and Language Arts?" "help my girlfriend at the subject"

Anyway, I also contradict yonder theory as I suck at math, but I've been taking AP English classes and getting good grades for quite awhile.
You've got to be joking.

Ok, I'll play ball.

Thank you good sir for kindly correcting my single fucking typo. I'm terribly sorry it annoyed you enough that you would be so fucking kind as to ***** about it.

I meant it to say "I'm very good AT language arts and help my girlfriend at the subject..."

Unless you wanted to be an entirely witty fuck, and you were pointing at that I should have said "WITH the subject". Regardless, thanks for being an ass.

I'm awesome at everything and I'm a guy.

Do I win?

I might also add that being a guy has nothing to do with my awesomeness, I'd probably be more awesome if I were a girl, Because then I'd have boobs as well.

Hmmm, I seem to recall more females in my AP math classes than males, but maybe it's a motivational reason for that.
That'd be it, I am one of only 3 boys in the top 15 of my class, 100% because most guys dont feel like trying. One of my friends could have a 100 average if he studied an hour every night. Fortunately, us three can still be that high without studying
