Alright, so I see so many videos of people eating Vegemite and finding it incredibly disgusting, well there is a single good reason

Vegemite isn't Peanut Butter! you don't pile it on with a thick layer, I'm an Australian and been eating it since i was young and I wouldn't be able to stand the amount that these people put on. Obviously some people won't like it just because of the taste, but it isn't meant to be loaded on, just a thin layer is all you need (maybe with some butter too)

Alright, my little rant is over....oh right discussion value

Have you tried Vegemite? did you like it? Hate it? Did you pile it on?

Don't load it on and shove it in.

Vegemite doesn't work like that.

Put a little bit on, nibble on it, and see if you like it.

Never tried it but I always found it strange that they made the stuff salty, a salty spread just doesn't seem like a good idea to me XD

I had vegemite once. It tasted like I was eating..... a...... umm.... salty stuff (I'm really bad at analogies). As an Australian, I find it disgusting and this is apparently a faux pas on my behalf.

Vegemite is overwhelming if you put too much. Unless you only put a tiny amount on, it'll taste like complete shit.

Salty dead yeast mind you.

And this may sound silly, but some vegemite in savoury dishes enhances the flavour too. Its basically MSG

Salt enhances flavour, like sugar does (to a certain point of course).

Dunno what the link is with Australia but funnily enough, when one of my Australian friends came to stay with me for a couple of months, she bought some Vegemite.
It was disgusting, but I wasn't surprised as marmite is also disgusting.

It is beautiful stuff

My favourite spread for toast, but you can't have it by itself and you can never have heaps. The flavour is overpowering

I've always had Promite, always. It's just a far superior spread (in my opinion).

First time I had Vegemite I really disliked it, and I still hate it. I hate the smell, even. It's just so painfully bitter and salty and... Eurgh! Puts me on edge.

Rather un-Australian of me, but it's so intolerable.

Actually, the glutamic acid. MSG is the glutamic acid plus the sodium ion.

I was talking about the salt in cooking, you often use salt and sugar in cooking, like pancakes and sauces.
So I wasn't surprised to hear yeast would enchance flavour.

I think the connection with Australia is that it comes from there, or at least I think so because I've never heard of it before, and all the people that are commenting that have tried it besides you are Australian.
[sub]... ... Yes I was checking everybody's profile's, no I don't think it's odd...[/sub]

EDIT: OK, Luftwaffles is actually from New Zealand not Australia, sorry for my mistake but the flags are very similar if you just check them fast.

Did you mean Marmite?

Most people hate it because they haven't tried it properly. If you're eating it like it's peanut butter, you're doing it wrong. It is an acquired taste but it's really nice on toast.

I used to hate Vegemite as a kid.

Then one time I came down sick and couldn't eat for a couple of days. Needless to say, once I had recovered I was absolutely ravenous. The first thing I ate was a thin slice of toasted homemade bread with butter and vegemite and it was fucking delicious.

Ever since then I liked it. Although these days it rarely occurs to me to buy any.

No Vegemite, It was actually made after Marmite, but only English people seem to know what Marmite is.

The correct answer is: Because it's not chocolate spread.
<spoiler=Pictured: The Best Toast In The World>http://goodnessdirectblog.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/chocolate-spread1.jpg

One is spreadable chocolate, one is a salty vegetable thing.
Which do you think is better?!
