Why no love for Hawkeye?

So I was watching Thor last night (yeah, it took me a while, so sue me) and was pretty excited to see Hawkeye make a small bit of a cameo. This got me thinking though, why does Hawkeye not get his own movie? Every other character in the Avengers either has their own movie (Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America) or are heavily prominent in a movie (Nick Fury is in all of them in some way and Black Widow is heavy in Iron Man 2).

So why no Hawkeye movie? It can't be because of unknown to mainstream media since I would consider a number of those characters to be unknowns. Before their respective movies came out, I would guess that the average person knew Hulk and Captain America and MAYBE Iron Man.

So any ideas why there is no love for our bow and arrow Avenger?

He's kind of a second stringer in the Avengers, and that's just the common perception with comic fans of him I've found, to the general public he's veritably obscure x)

Also, who exactly do you consider unknown to the mainstream in the Avengers movie? Captain America? Iron Man? Thor? The Hulk? You're kidding right? Hell, even Nick Fury has had more mainstream exposure than Hawkeye. And yes: All of those before their movies. There was the Hulk tv show in the 80's, not to mention the movies where he teams up with Thor. All three have had various success in animation: See MIGHTY THOR. Even Nick Fury got his own TV movie in the early 90's, played by David Hasslehoff no less. I mean, besides Hawkeye, probably Black Widow is a little more obscure in the eyes of the public before the Iron Man movies. I'm actually a little annoyed that they didn't pick Wasp as the one female member. Hawkeye will have to make up in the wisecracking department without her. :/

I assume so. I never read the Hawkeye comics either but he seems like he'd be a sweet character (especially with Jeremy Renner playing him).

Because as much as I love Hawkeye, he doesn't need or warrant his own movie yet. The Avengers has always been made up of two types of characters, heroes who were already popular and heroes who became popular through the Avengers. Hawkeye is strictly the last one. If audiences like him in the Avengers we might see a future movie, but not before that.

Before Marvel pumped out all the movies, I would be surprised if the average person knew about Thor and Iron Man (MovieBob called Iron Man relatively obscure, I wish I could find where he said that) and maybe even Captain America. Yes, the "nerds" , comic book fans, and Saturday Morning cartoon fans will know who they are but what about your mom (that's not a joke, seriously, I've found the best way to know if "normal" people know about it is to ask my mom)?

Because he's no well known enough to justify his own film and besides which he's going to get killed in The Avengers so they're not going to waste time fleshing him out in his own film.

In the last 50 years Iron man, Thor and Captain America have a history of having high successful unbroken runs of comics with large numbers of readers. All attempts to create Hawkeye series have inevitably failed. He's a good character in an ensemble but can't really support his own story. Of course the man on the street doesn't know about these comics, but to Marvel it gives a good idea of who is popular and who isn't.

Come on now, if I were Bendis I wouldn't be advocating not wasting time now would I?

Thor is the norse god of thunder, Iron man is a dude in a flying suit of armour that shoots lasers and rockets, the hulk is an unstoppable manefestation of radioactive rage and captain america is the commander of the second world wars most elite unit, a super soldier unfrozen to fight again.

Hawkeye is a dude with a bow and arrow, I don't really see how they can have him existing in the same universe without him getting destroyed or eaten.

Because he lacks the complex inner-conflict that the other members have had (Iron-Man suffers from Alcoholism, Thor with his attempts to hide his god-hood, Captain America adjusting to life 60 years in the future and Hulk...well that one goes unsaid.) and also lacks any real great super powers. I doubt that even a great director and writing staff could make a movie about a guy who uses an obsolete weapon as his main way of fighting in the 21st century interesting enough.

He's just too obscure, even for after being an Avenger.

The Avengers movie needs more Pym Particles. Hank Pym has that inner conflict everyone seems to find lacking in Hawkeye and yet he and Wasp are missing out. It's unfair I tell you.

When I saw the thread title, I thought of M*A*S*H and got a little excited.

OT: I've got nothing. I'm sorry. I did like Thor, though!

It's the Celestials fault really. Same with Captain America.

Any hero that is ostensibly "normal" or "peak-human" in the marvel universe, performs feats of strength, agility, intelligence that is super by our standards. The explanation largely rests with the Celestials, vast cosmic beings, more powerful than gods (but not God with a upper-case G), who mucked about with the universe, they did genetic experiments on humans and invested them with a hidden super-potential. Mutants are one of several species who have through evolution unlocked that potential. Likewise people exposed to forms of radiation like Spider-man, the Hulk, Fantastic Four survive the possibly lethal doses and develop powers because of it.

So people who train themselves to peak human ability due to that potential are still so much more than regular humans. Bullseye can throw a tooth pick into a grenade in air to deactivate it. Likewise Hawkeye can hit anything he wants with any ranged weapons.

So combine this with a vast array of tech in his arrows, explosives, emps, stunners, adamantium heads, he's useful. It's not like they're choosing between him and Thor, they'll take everyone they can.

Sorry about the lecture, I guess I'm bored.

I'm sorry I didn't read the entire thread.

I'd watch a movie about a guy who uses bows and arrows simply because I have an unhealthy obsession with bows and arrows. :D Although unfortunately I can't answer your query since I don't know much about Hawkeye the hero, nor do I read comics in general. :D

From the title I thought this was a thread about Lieutenant Hawkeye from Full Metal Alchemist. xP
