the problem with comparing modern games and classic ones in terms of quality is that there is just to massive a leap in technology. YOu have to judge each game based on the era it comes out.

I can say, with confidence, that I would much rather play the original C&C games than the new ones that they've released. This is not nostalgia. Give me the very first C&C and I would play through it happily, where as I would struggle to force myself through something like Red Alert 3. I don't know if that's a good example, but to me it shows that in some cases old games are definitely better than their newer iterations.
