Because the companies want to use as little money as possible, and get as much in as they can. I guess.

Because.

No, I really don't know. Do those things even go dry?
they don't go dry they adsorb a bit of moisture and then lose most of the flavor and have a horrible texture

...you know that you could just put them in a zip-top bag if you wanted to, right?

I'd have to agree with that most people just buy a new bag witch make the company more money

Because the companies expect you to eat them all quickly if you don't want them to go stale so you have to buy more bags of chips.

Truth. I was thinking the exact same thing. They also make the snack size bags of chips, so you don't have to have an open bag of chips sitting around.

It's probably been thought of. The big chip companies have probably just decided that it wouldn't be cost effective. Or they'd have to pay royalties to zip-lock or something.

Did someone miss that Pringles come in a can with a reusable lid?

They could those re-sealable bags I suppose, they would cost less to use. But it would be a good idea, especially on the larger bags. Those share-size things that end up scrunched up at the bottom of my bag
That would not be a bad idea

Actually my father did that for awhile and they actually went stale faster. The coating on the inside of the bag helps keep them fresh.

Who cares...pointless thread.
Disagreed, its a legitimate discussion on chip freshness technique.
Its almost as pointless as a review on Doctor Pepper...

What are we meant to be discussing - that crisps don't stay fresh forever? Think about it, companies arn't going to pay extra money so you can keep your crisps a little longer.

you are a very, very bitter person. If you don't think this is worth discussing, why not just go somewhere else, another thread. You don't have to bring us all down into your pit of bitterness and cynicism.

I'd have to agree with the whole bitterness argument. But I'm not gong anywhere - I am bitter due to the large number of pointless, stupid or irrelevant threads that have plagued this forum recently, and am attempting to voice my opinion against them. Take this thread for example, theres no discussion - the OP didn't try to articulate his opinion / story in any way that could provoke discussing - what has occurred is an irrelevant thread - the subject matter is next to useless as, as I have already stated, theres nothing to discuss, his idea would never be made and is impractical when it comes down to business - as such what we are simply discussing is "how do you keep crisps from going stale" - something that is a very poor topic choice for any discussion forum.

Maybe it is pointless. What does it matter though? People engage in pointless chatter all the time. It helps fill the time. You're assumption that there is "nothing to discuss" here is not really supported. There are a number of posts here discussing the topic. There may not be much to discuss here, but thats fine. The thread fill parse itself out, people will realize anything worth saying has been said, and the thread will slip off the charts.

In conclusion, if you don't think its worth discussing. Don't worry about it. If you have anything else to say, keep it on topic. If you want to ***** about this more, make your own thread about it, don't be a troll in other people's threads.

BoT: They could make reusable chip bags with zip-tops, and the lining. So once you buy a bag of chips you can put them in that to keep them from going stale. Once you've finished that bag: rinse, dry, reuse.

It would cost more to put that in (getting a machine, maintaining it). Also it would allow chips to last longer after you opened the bag. Meaning you'd buy less frequently.
