Well, my PC cost about £600 (Desktop, monitor, etc) and it runs like a dream. If you've got the graphics card and a decent monitor, every game looks ridiculously tasty.

That and we can use it for work, movies, internet, messenger, email, banking, porn, MINECRAFT.... they're pretty much the better option, really - and you'll only need the occassional update to OS or Graphics card every five or so years (if you like having the newest OS all the time.... I'm sticking with Win7), roughly the same as a console.

So yeah. Essentially it's a powerful, multitasking machine of fantasticality. Which is totally a word.

I'm not a PC elitist, but I can see the many advantages of my PC vs my consoles.

1) A lot more memory
2) Games are easier to release/make
3) Games are cheaper
4) Games are easier to mod
5) RTS and RPG games have better controls due to having more buttons available
6) No 12 year olds complaining into your headset.

It is all about preference when it comes down to gaming.

I use my ps3 and my pc for gaming. My console is my primary gaming platform with the pc for RTS and MMO games.

Though I do know where your coming from with a select few pc gamer seeing themselves as "elites". In fact I even saw a comment from one pc gamer slandering all console gamers for the subcription fee for DCUO. As well as another one insulting them for claiming that everyone who is getting the game on console should not complain about the sub fee because they are poor (I'm para-phrasing).

Basiclly I have nothing against pc gamers, or the pc as a gaming platform. But I do have a problem with trolls and ego-strokers.

some PC gamers seem to be very arrogant about their platform.I cna't remember how many times i've been told by pc gamers that 'their' platform is 'better' than a console. To be honest I have played games on pc and I do see the advantages to it, but, for instance I play team fortress on xbox and on PC and I do like the stuff the updates added I just prefer the xbox version.I just don't like the over complication and I have been told the lag and low screen rate I suffer from are due to my low spec machine but to be frank computers are a HELL OF A LOT MORE COMPLEX THAN A CONSOLE. Plus they are more expencive I could just buy an xbox for cheap rather than dish out a ton for a pc

So could we disscuss if the pc does deserve to be top dog, or should it just share the spot with the consoles
I see your point, but can I really take you seriously when you can't apparently spell, punctuate, or convey a point without resulting to excessive use of caps lock.

Try making your point a bit more effectively next time, eh?

See OP THAT is arrogance :p
Hehe, even if I was the butt of the joke. I lol'd.

the majority of online players on consoles are usually brainless idiots who threaten to do sexually explicit things to my mother.... thats why im a PC gamer.

oh and the games are generally better, although we do get some horribly shitty ports.

Neither is better than the other. From the view point of a developer/gamer I see it as follows:

PC Pros:
- Easy to upgrade
- Highly customizable
- Mouse and Keyboard native ( opinion: Best controls for FPS and RTS games )
- Mod Communities ( for games such as Oblivion and Fallout )

PC Cons:
- Price
- Rate of advance ( to stay on top, you have to upgrade often )
- Non-uniform hardware ( software has to conform to several hardware layouts, extending dev time and increasing bug count )
- Ease of Piracy ( easier to pirate on PC than it is on Console )

Console Pros:
- Unifom Hardware
- Low Pricepoint
- Native Control system ( comes with Uniform hardware )
- Easier to transport

Console Cons:
- Minimal upgrades ( most all of which void warranties )
- Not as easy to customize ( and most will likewise void the warranty )
- Higher retail cost on games

I own a couple of PCs, a Mac, X360, PS3, and Wii, and use most of them regularly ( the Wii rarely gets touched ). I don't find any one supperior, but do find they all have something they do superior to all others.

PC controls RTS and FPS games better, and has STEAM.
Xbox has the best Online network.
Playstation is the most reliable set of hardware and exclusives are usually cleaner than other systems ( fewer noticible bugs ).

Well I think all that needs to be said has been said... and I agree with them. (Different strokes for different folks, PC gamers like the complexity, more control, more options etc).

I built my PC at the end of April after doing a whole lot of research. After I built it I went and spent a little more money on it for a few more upgrades, to make it my personal piece of awesome. And awesome it is. I have a PS3 which is nice for a few things. However I mostly use it to play movies on my TV + sound system (streamed off the PC) than for gaming these days. I also use my PS3 gamepad on the PC for certain games that it benefits.

Sure, it was very costly... but so worth it.

Man, there is going to be some flames coming up in this thread.

I use both PC and PS3 and I will mostly just say you should probably step out of your comfort zone with your Xbox. Saying PC is better is not saying consoles are bad. (At least from my standpoint anyways.) PCs offer mods for one which can add a LOT to a game's experience it offers. Civ 4 alone is like 5 different games on my hard drive that all play completely different. It is Dune the game, FfH2, MoO3, my personal mod of the standard game similar to PIG mod if you know what that is, and SMAC2. Plus I am probably forgetting a couple honestly that are comparable to the feel of the original game, like Rise and Fall mod. I don't even play the factory version of the game anymore because every one of those mods are better than the factory game. This is probably why so many people mention mods when talking about PC games.

As well, price is relatively equal across the board really when you consider game prices and console/PC prices. PCs are getting considerably cheaper every year. 10 new games on a console = you just paid an extra 100 bucks compared to a PC gamers. So in effect you could say your console just cost you 100 bucks more than sticker price on the box. In the end, the price is about the same comparatively.

Controllers are an additional debate but you can get a console gamepad for the PC. Plus, it is interesting to note that consoles are mirroring themselves after PCs more and more. Then bringing up that LCD TVs are getting more and more popular. I mean there really is a list as to why the PC is better. There really isn't anything a console can do that a PC can't do simply put. I could go on but I think what I have already put is good enough to defend that the PC is clearly better.

I am not saying that consoles are bad. I love my PS3 but I love my PC more and if my house was on fire, I know if I could save 1 thing it would be my PC.

Different titles, same logic applies.

Yes. Computers are more complicated, generally more expensive (although that's very arguable), and not as straightforward as "press button to turn on -> insert disc -> play". They're also better, as they can do everything a console can and much, much more.

I'm not anti-consoles mind you. But if you have to name a winner, there's really no contest.

Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

And this is why they are better.
Complexity is not always a plus and can often be a detriment.

For example: Take any tabletop RPG any at all and compare them to F.A.T.A.L, F.A.T.A.L is without a doubt the single most needlessly complex Tabletop RPG ever made to calculate each of your numerous stats with a roll of 4d 500/2 - 1, that's right roll two ten sided dice four times, divide by two and subtrract one, and you must do this for each of your 18 plus stats.
That was the least of the games problems but my point still stands.

Complexity is not good in and of it's self.

I don't get it, I think PC gamers just like to list off big numbers and talk about how they get a few pixels more out of their graphics processors.
I don't believe that PC or consoles are better than one another. It's all about the games, and having played games on both, I can honestly say that some games just work better on a certain system.
Also, in my experience my consoles have been more stable than my PCs, I've lost a few systems to viruses and blue screens.
That's mainly why I choose consoles, apart from one Xbox getting the red ring, I've never had a console crap out, even my N64 still works.

well a good pc is generally more pricey, however pc games are cheaper. Also as most people are gunna have a pc anyway it's not like you wouldn't be spending money on a computer anyway. Furthermore do you get mental steam sales on xbox. I think not. therefore in my opinion a pc is better in everyway. Well except offline co-op.

I have spent the past week trying in vain to fix my broken ass PC which decided to up and die on me for no reason whatsoever, causing me to lose 600 GB of data, and having to install and re-install Windows twice today alone, even now as I type this I don't know if the problem is solved or has simply gone in to remission, while my Xbox, PS2 and PS3 have sat there working allowing me to blow off the anger this infernal device has caused me over the past few days so I'd say no in fact PCs are not clearly better, they merely have advantages, they also have severe disadvantages as does any console out there, there is no best, there is merely a best for you.

I prefer my PC but I unerstand the reason why people prefer consoles.

I just prefer the variety of games you can get on PC.

It's less about PCs being better, and more about the fact that people will always find a reason to say that what they do/have is better.

It's true... PCs are more complicated, more expensive, and more prone to glitches. Used to be, all hardcore (or even slightly more than casual) gamers were tech-head geeks like me. Consoles back then just weren't very impressive... so their games had to be simple, clever, and fun. Nowadays a console can do nearly as much as a PC, though their input devices are limited and their hardware is quickly outdated... still, they're close enough to draw in huge crowds like never before.

...but the PC is still the most moddable, powerful, and flexible gaming system on the market... it's just that, now more than ever, it requires a large base of technical knowledge to use effectively. When you have that knowledge, there's just no substitute; the PC is a better system. When you don't, the PC just seems like too much work.

I am biased towards PC gaming because it's the first platform I ever played games on for a protracted period of time. I briefly had a Sega Master System, SNES and Mega Drive but none of the experiences were really memorable because at some point they were taken away (or something).

I find that the PC for what I want it for and for the games I play to be the best platform possible - I honestly believe that the playing experience is richer than that on consoles, particularly when mods, total conversions and other user created content is available. I couldn't possibly imagine playing COD MW2 or Black Ops *spits* on my 360 and HD TV.

I remember trying to play COD 2 when the 360 first came out (it was a demo station at Game) and I couldn't aim precisely at all - took me a good long while to get used to the controls when I bought my 360.

Still, to each their own.
