I love playing games on hard! It helps me get better and it's oh so satisfying when you beat something omega hard. Such as most bosses in Resonance of Fate. I usually start on normal and work my way up, though. As I did with Bayonetta.

Play it on hard until it stops feeling enjoyable. Then drop the difficulty. If I start feeling overly frustrated, I lower the difficulty. Simple.

It's amazing this thread is at 8 pages of "I play hard for the challenge and bragging rights" or "Frustration sucks I play on normal"

i dont play video games for the challenge. i enjoy the domination. besides, i dont even want to think of the money i've already wasted on new controllers (after constantly breaking them in frustration).

Mostly just the satisfaction of beating that game on the hardest difficulty, though it has to be a really good game for me to go through again on harder difficulties.

Devil may cry 3 on DMD, GoW2 on Titan mode, would say Dante's Inferno on inferno mode, but I was only renting it so I went through it on resurrection mode and only died once or twice so doesn't count whole bunch others but those main ones

Simple really, for a challenge. The only way I'll ever get better at a game is to have it pose a serious challenge. Oh, and achievements are always nice.

And by the way, Mass Effect 2's Insanity difficulty level gets easier near the end depending on any upgrades you may purchase.

I play on hard as it tends to create an actual sense of accomplishment when you actually finish it, also, it adds longevity.

It eventually boils down to keeping my eyes on the achievement I'm going to get, but I have lots on fun while I'm getting there. Like when I beat Mass Effect 1 on Insanity I had a BLAST! Same with Left 4 Dead 1, and all the Splinter Cell games

I definitely lost the incentive to play a more difficult mode on games like God of War 3 or BFBC2, because it offered no rewards for completing them. So why not have more fun being beast, even if its easy?

I play on hard or harder, for the challenge. Killing everyone in one shot is not fun, there is no feeling that you earned the victory. I prefer most games to challenge me.

Once you get good at a game, it stops challenging you, and you ramp up the difficulty.

Some games aer fun w/o being hard. Once I had the invisability code for Manhunt, it was just more fun. Crackdown stops being fun on harder difficulty. Fallout is only good if you can explore. Silent Hill... well, that's hard even on easy mode (First one).

Left 4 Dead, on the other hand, gets more challenging because you are running a gauntlet. You are trying to get to the end without dying with at least one survivor. That's fun especially when you shut the door on a teammate while umpteen million zombies flood into the room and tear your buddy apart.

Cheat Codes make games easier and sometimes more fun, and they are becoming more and more rare. Unlockables aren't common anymore. And bonus content relys on your ability to beat SUPER EXTREME HARD MODE! two or three times. And I don't know about everyone else, but some games have a Bullshit level or something near the middle that is almost impossible to pass no matter what.

I don't play on hard for the achievements.
I play on hard to challenge myself and for the fun of them.

Some games are just to easy on any other difficulty.
Like for MW2 for instance. My first fun through was on veteran and I beat in six hours. I never even bothered with the other difficulties because I'd have beaten in less than four.
