Why Should I Bother?

So. I've been playing KOTOR mostly so I can cross it off my list of Gaming "Classics". I've come to the conclusion that the game can be fun but is not very interesting.

Anyway, I've carved my way through the story and finally reached the big twist that shocked the world back in 2003. Now that I've experienced that I feel like my need to play this game has completely abated. All I have left to do is locate Korriban's star map, find the Star Forge, and destroy it (I'm guessing).

I feel like I've had the "KOTOR experience". Is there any reason to finish this game? Or can I get back to other, more interesting games?

I don't think you need anyone's permission to stop playing a game you don't find interesting. You aren't required to like these "de facto" good games, I certainly don't like most of them. It seems almost counter-intuitive to continue playing something you aren't enjoying, especially if you have other titles in mind.

if a game doesn't interest you then don't play it, gaming is meant to be fun not work (unless your a reviewer in which case get your ass back to the keyboard )

If you don't like a game, don't make yourself play it. No one is going to give you anything for sticking too it. If you've played enough of a game to get a good sense of how it plays, and that isn't fun too you, it isn't going to suddenly get better at some point.

The reason I'm playing/played KOTOR was more as a historical review rather than for my own enjoyment (also, I technically got it for free). It was fun and I now know what everyone was talking about with that stupid twist.

There's a strange facet of my gaming life: I will voluntarily play a game I don't enjoy just so I can have a first-person account of it's historical context. I wonder if "Gaming Historian" will be an actual profession in the next few decades.

Ok, that's it, if you didn't like it then and only played it for the twist just drop it and move on to KOTOR 2, a game that carries itself with an incredibly deep and dark storyline that doesn't rely on a twist to wow an audience.

...in my opinion, of course.

make sure you get the mod though that game was seriously destroyed by how much it was cut down to the point of being psycotic

Some people find Orwell's "1984" and Machiavelli's "The Prince" boring, but they read them anyway because they are classics and they want to be able to say "Yes, I read this boring, but great book"

Do it or don't do it. Simple as that.

Different strokes for different folks, as the saying goes. If you dont care for Kotor then stop playing it. I think its one of the best games ever made and probably the best star wars game made thus far but I'll never say you should play something you dont like. In fact I believe anytime someones doing something they dont like in their lesuire time its a tragedy.

So its up to you, push on and experience the whole thing or quit now. Only you can decide what the right choice is for you

I think you have all got the wrong end of the stick, which seems to happen quite a lot on this site. I think he is asking "is there any good/decent content left?" or has he got the best bit and might as well not bother with wrapping it up.

I can't answer that 'cos I have never played it, I just think people are misinterpreting the question.

This just seems like a thin mask for somebody saying "LOOK AT HOW UNIQUE I AM. I DISLIKE A POPULAR GAME".

Not saying that it is, just that it seems a lot like it. Anyway, the answer to the question is really really obvious. If you don't like a game, you shouldn't have played it in the first place.

I do. I just happen to approach games the same way I approach literature and everywhere I go, people tell me KOTOR is a classic. To be fair, I can see the reasons why and, in 2003, KOTOR would have impressed me greatly.

It's interesting to chart Bioware's creative development and, comparing KOTOR to their later installments, I better understand why people enjoy Bioware so much even when their general designs have serious flaws.

I had the same experience with both Okami and Beyond Good and Evil. I heard they were classics, gave them a try for a few hours and they did nothing for me. They started to feel like a chore and so I stopped playing.

I felt kind of bad in a way, but to be honest I don't see the point in playing a game I don't enjoy just for the sake of saying I completed it. It has also taught me not to buy games just because people keep telling me that they are good.
