Firstly, if you're a fanboy FUCK OFF, there, we should be safe now.

Ok, I have gone through four 360's and to be honest, it's starting to take the piss, I'm discussing with myself whether to go all out and build a PC out of lots of bits or buy a PS3, but why should I buy a PS3? Convince me.

There's another post saying why should I buy a gaming PC? For people who like PC's.

Two words: Little Big Planet... wait. PS3 is advantageous, as its considerably cheaper than a pc that would get you the same graphical fidelity. Also, its exclusives are pretty good, but really it just depends on your taste. Things like MGS4 and Final Fantasy 13 are apparently quite good (even if one of them isn't out yet). oh, and its also a lot simpler than a pc, you get it out of the box, you plug it in, it runs games.

Although really only worth it if you're getting another 360, as so many of the cross-platform games run better on 360 or pc... I'm gonna give up now, as all my attempts to convince have failed due to me not actually having the console...

Well, here's my points:

1: Reliability (As you said yourself, you're pissed because your 360's are breaking - It won't happen to the PS3)

2: Free online

3: Blu-ray ( I am not using it at all, but maybe you will)

4: Games. There's a ton of games coming out for the PS3 this year, and it has already got a hell lot of nice games already. I'm not bashing the 360, but I don't see many must-haves for it this year, compared to the PS3.

Well, about the PC - I guess that's a personal choice whether you want a gaming PC or a PS3. Personally I would want to have both, cause then you can play all the nice exclusives for the PS3, and the multi-platform (and often 360 / PC games such as Alan Wake, Mass Effect, The last remnant, etc etc)on your PC.

Oh, I'll make a list down here with must-have titles for the PS3, and upcoming must-haves.

MUST-HAVES:

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Ratchet and Clank future: Tools of Destruction
Killzone 2
Warhawk
Motorstorm
Motorstorm 2: Pacific Rift
Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Little Big Planet
Valkyria Chronicles
Heavenly Sword

UPCOMING MUST-HAVES:

Final Fantasy versus XIII
God of War III
Infamous
Uncharted 2
Ratchet and Clank: A crack in time
Gran Turismo 5
Yakuza 3
Demon's Souls
Chaos Theory
Heavy Rain

And a couple of other unannounced ones (Team ICO, the guys behind ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are currently devoloping a game, and it seems that Sony has got a couple of games to announce as well.)

quite honestly you can expect more or less the same lineup with both consoles, give or take a few more japanese games for the ps3 or a few extra western games for the 360. personally i chose the ps3 because i liked the controller more, as well as being able to go online without having to pay for it. there are also a few exclusives that may be worth mentioning, but that's about all.

as for reliability, my ps3 has broken down only once at the very beginning because of a faulty blu ray drive lens (i have a 60gb version), but that was fixed pretty quickly and painlessly.

Like I posted in your other thread, it just depends on what type of gamer you consider yourself. The biggest appeal to the PS3 though is the BluRay player. I also love the fact that once bought, you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars upgrading it. It's good to go straight out of the box.

I can't really get into games so much cause I don't have many PS3 exclusives. I know the graphics look better on my PS3 than my best friend's XBox, and I don't have nearly as many problems as he does in games like Fallout and Bioshock. But really, these aren't all that major of issues.

The reason to buy a PS3 is for the BluRay and not really a hardcore gamer so don't need the extensive title collection of the Xbox.

p.s. not really a "fanboy" but I do absolutely love my PS3. Spend much more time on my PC though.

Ok, coming from me, a person who has a 360, PS3, and a gaming console, I personally enjoy PC gaming, followed by PS3 and then 360. The reasons why for me is that the PC community is much more enjoyable and has a much larger online community for games like TF2, Counter Strike, WOW(even though i no longer play), and many others. PS3 is a great console with great game, such as Littlebigplanet, which I recently just bought, and am having a great time with. I also have MGS4, which was a great game with an incredible story. Killzone 2 is being compared to Gears, but Killzone came out before Gears, so I will NOT be like the 360 tards and call it Gears for PS3. Killzone 2 will give you that shooter you want to play, and you also have COD4 or WaW. As for the cross platform thing. Bullshit. PS3 runs games great if not better. Dont get me wrong all you 360 fanboys, I still love playin my halo or gears from time to time, but free internet, the (hopeful) great games that will be coming out, along with playstation own mock off of live, is enough of a reason for me. Oh yeah, did i mention blu-ray player?!

So to conclude, a PS3 is a solid choice, it just isnt at the same level as 360 in regards to its own version of xbox live.

I have to say don't

but it depends on your preferences

If you buy a PS3 for the multiplayer I think you are wasting your time, I have heard a lot of bad things about it
Especially for such a powerful expensive hunk of junk

Id say just build the PC, it can do so much more

On another note: comparing the PS3 updates to the Xbox 360 updates? did they make a big deal about being able to save what you have BOUGHT to the hard drive? and the ability to send text messages to each other?
I wouldn't be expecting much in terms of console changing updates

Wait on getting a ps3, price will drop this year. At least in America. If thats not really in issue then it comes down to your genre.

I waste some time on Home occasionally they do have some cool stuff to do in it. However you have to pay for clothing etc, which they are supposed to change into Trophy Points being able to buy stuff and get extra content for your house. Sounds pretty cool to me.

The web browser sucks but you can watch Hulu as long as its not full-screened. You couldn't play music or text chat in a game until recently (Yesterday) but you can now.

It runs quieter surprisingly.

multi-platform online games aren't as good on the ps3. (Lack of dedicated servers people dont know how to unlock their default hosts on their wireless networks so they lag.) Microsoft does some shady shit like buy all the DLC for Fallout 3. Which I think is another Monopolization issue again.

The controller feels nice however its bottom heavy and falls to the floor a lot.

Sony is really cool about fixing stuff thats broken. I even bought a broken 20GB and it was fixed from them for 99$ flat. They sent the box, and it was back to me in under a week. That pleased me the most. They even told me over the phone where I can fix it myself if I didn't want to send it in. Pretty laid back. They then told me that the lens was displaced and fixed it for free. Totally good business.

Bluray movies look really good and if you have a tv that can show it, start up a netflix account and watch watch watch.

Some games -needed- bluray. I think killzone 2 was one of them.

if you have a PSP you can watch anything thats on your PS3 via remote play (must have a wireless network obviously) I rarely use this because I have an iPod but whatever its there. You can also play PS1 games that are saved on it or in the drive itself.

That's about it, I really like playing Killzone 2. It's my alternative to CoD4.

The way I see it is. As of right now, it is the wealthy man's system. All this support for 1080p Dolby 8.1 etc is thousands of dollars to have. But I think that's what they were going for. In 5 years or so that will be the mainstream. And then they'll be back on top because everyone will want to accompany their bargain dolby soundsystem and 1080 tv that they got from walmart. Sure Microsoft will undeniably have a new console but everyone will be familiar with dev'ing for the ps3. So the pages will be flipped.

That's my opinion, I own all systems although I just sold my wii that shit is really really really boring. My xbox runs my ffxi 24/7 and of course CoD4 + L4D.

Kira out.

Well, wireless connection and full backwards compatibility sold me on mine. That, and the neat little chrome faceplate.

Personally I'd go for the PC as there are TONS of games out for it. Lots of new ones coming out all the time and a PC has so many more uses than just games, even if it is a gaming rig.

The PS3 DOES have a few good things going for it: the free online play and not having to pay tons of money to upgrade it like a PC or even the 360. Though recently Square Enix has decided to break their exclusive rights contract with Sony due to the way they've been running the company. FFXIII will be available on the 360 as well.

I haven't heard of many exclusives for the PS3 that are really must haves aside from the MGS4.

I admit to being a bit biased against the PS3 however as its sheer price has made me resent it. $600 for a console when my PC was only $500.

This. Even IF PC gaming is more expensive than consoles (it isn't always), you still have a machine that is capable of far more than any console. Some of the older games that are on the PC are far better than anything that is out now for consoles. Add in the fact that you can get PSX, N64, and all systems below to run 100% emulated on the PC, you can pretty much play any game that was ever worth playing, be it from consoles or PC.

Don't get me wrong, the PS3 is a nifty system. But to me, I don't see it serving much more use than a blu-ray player. Any good game on the PS3 is on the 360 as well (well, not every, but enough :p), and if it's on the 360, chances are it's on the PC as well. 'Course some devs are really lazy with their ports, but that is another discussion.

I've said it here time and time again, old games are awesome. I've been playing some really old games lately on the PC, and I've been having fun with them more so than the new games that have been coming out this generation. If your focus is to get a machine that will net you the most fun, a PC is the way to go. You could land yourself a 5 year old PC for free, and still have a machine that will give you games like Total Annihilation, Starcraft, Thief, Doom 1/2, Rainbow Six 1/2/3, Final Fantasy 7, No One Lives Forever, Diablo 1/2, Guild Wars, Morrowind... Etc, Etc. You would still be able to run SNES games flawlessly on an emulator.

And all that wall of text is just for using a PC as a gaming machine. Add in the fact that you can use web browsers, video conversion tools for your iPod, IM programs, Etc, etc... on a PC, and you have very little reason to buy a current gen system.

PS3 would be a good choice if you don't want to have to hunt down all the components/install/tweak your new pc. However one thing that has always confused me is this. If your not paying for Online for the PS3, Who is and does this have any inherent problems?

It depends on your preferences.

If you're knowlegable enough in computers and stuff, and can build your own PC from scratch without too much of a problem, I'd say go for that.

But if you just want a console that can play games right from the start, next to no hassle to get it working, go ahead with the PS3.

You also have to consider the games, the online, the content, etc...

Sorry if I'm not that much help, but I'd hope that you make an educated decision with this. Nobody wants to spend money then regret it.
