personally I have for a long time thought that legend of zelda is one of the greatest game series of all time and i cant understand why so many people are against it. If I'm imagining things please tell me.

I still love it, I just want some variety! And to NOT have Gannon has the big-bad. Majora's Mask was a great example and an excellent direction for the series, but they went right back to the old ways. Darker stories, different items, and different baddies. The repetitiveness is getting annoying.

don't concern yourself with fads and trends. Theres nothing wrong with the legend of zelda in general, and its certainly not worth getting yourself tied up in a knot over one of the more profitable franchises in history. There will be many more of them.

I had a great time with Zelda. I just hope to see no more of the cell-shaded Wind Waker style of animation.
It is because that you play Ocarina and the rest are down hill (much like Mario 64).
Weather or not you agree with that statement, it is the opinion that most people have.
Also it is EXTREMELY formulaic. Link doesn't talk, disastrous event happens, Zelda captured/incapacitated, Link is THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE THE WORLD!!!!111!!!eleventytwelve!1, you get new weapons/gadgets that are used to get past a certain dungeon and not before you get said item, fight the various incarnation of Ganondorf, save world.

because their most recent games have been "Spirit tracks" "phantom hourglass" and "Twilight princess." ugh.
It's probably because of the wii. Once noncasual gamers realized nintendo was not trying to get their money, they realized the wii was not worth having. So to make themselves feel better, they bash LoZ so they don't feel bad about missing it. I for one love my wii. It drove me to PC gaming.
It's only in recent years has Zelda gone sour. twlight princess promised a great deal, yet only barely delivered. Couple that with the recent cel shaded DS one and it's not looking good. Oot was the high point of the series, majoras mask was considered good, but didn't beat it's forefather and it went downhill with windwaker. Still, it's a fine series, and one that has avoided some of the worst rehashing that Nintendo is famous for.
