I'm not a fanboy (ha ha ha worse opening line ever) so I'm not going to defend this game, claiming it is better than pudding and the ultimate game you will ever play in your life until the next mainstream game comes out and then forget about AC3. No I'm just curious why I've seen so little ferver about the game and why some are calling it the worse AC game.

Personally I thought it was going to be utter crap until I heard some people talking okay about it so I'm actually loving this game aside from the glaring problems it has. I just want to know why many people just don't like it?

I haven't seen much hate for it. Sure, a few folks don't like it, but that's true for any game. Surely you weren't expecting it to set the world afire.

Personally, while I don't hate it, I was thoroughly unimpressed.

I wasn't execpting anything but you would think the way people were talking before it launched it would. So I was curious so I just asked.

The pacing is off, the writing is lower quality than before, the main character is bland, the story is underwhelming and the pay off is disappointing. The side quests are mostly not worth doing, the improvements to combat don't make it any more challenging than before and the free running isn't as interesting with trees as it was with Renaissance landmarks.
If you don't believe me, go watch Yahtzee's review, or Angry Joe if you prefer:

Revelations still holds that mantle. The last fight in the game was a carriage ride followed by falling off a cliff into a QTE.

It has a worse ending than ME3.

Let that sink in.

Also, the pacing is all over the map, the characters are dull and uninteresting, there's too much pointless busy work, there's hardly any assassinations, it's too easy, you spend too much time playing as Hatham, the list goes on.

Could we be civilised and not use the word 'hate' for 'disappointment'? I've seen very little if any hate for AC3. In most cases, including mine, it just lost a bit of focus and structure and has some more specific problems, none of which make it a bad game, just not as good as it could have been/was expected.

Just finished Revelations last night, and jeesus what just happened with that parachute and picking off enemies on horses like you're the batman. And after that, the whole next chapter consist of walking around, jump to cut scene, walking 5 meters, pushing a button, cut scene, loading screen, cut scene, walk around, cut scene and then loading screen.

I for one thought this was the best part. Hell, I would have enjoyed the game twice as much if Connor had just never been the protagonist.

Now, I haven't played it myself but, maybe it has something to do with the stated glaring problems?

I guess my problem with the Hatham missions was

The fact that the twist was painfully obvious, yet they just kept dragggging it out. Oh, and the bit on the boat was horrible.

haha yeah that twist was executed badly. I spent the whole time as Hatham wondering why it didn't specify exactly that...

Between all the bugs and glitches, the frustrating and boring plots and a landslide of gameplay flaws, I wouldn't know where to begin. What infuriates me the most is that under all the rubbish there's the vast potential for a truly great game, and the fact that Ubisoft managed to cock it up so thoroughly despite that potential is tragic beyond words.

Agreed.
It would have been nice to see another perspective on this whole deal.

OT: Probably because it takes about 7 hours to pick up and doesn't really do much from there.
Haven't finished it yet, I've been faffing around a bit, but everything is so much less grand than in 2. Hell, even compared to 1 everywhere looks really dull.

I'm still very early in the game, so I haven't really developed an opinion on it yet. But so far the only thing that's really impressed me is the visuals.

The new combat seems like it'll be okay, just will take getting used to. The controls are a little better and the animation smoother. Some of the new gameplay mechanics seem kind of lame (line of fire or whatever it's called). And it seems like the world's gonna be too big with not much to do in it, similar to Red Dead Redemption.

And yeah, it's kind of buggy, but hopefully that'll get fixed next week.

For me, the story, characters and setting were far less compelling than the previous games plus, this one unnecessarily took every opportunity to shoehorn Connor in to famous historical events:

He participated in the Boston Tea Party? I'm cool with that. But he was the one holding the reins for Revere's ride? And he was present for the signing of the Declaration of Independence? Seriously guys?

maybe because of the glaring problems you're talking about in your own op? people may have a problem with those whatever those are.

^Pretty much this.

I wouldn't say it's the worst AC - no, that title easily goes to Revelations - but I do think it tried to make itself too big. Of all the criticisms that Yahtzee threw at it, the one big one to take away is the tediousness of all the side BS. I did all the Homestead quests just to get everyone living out there that I could, but I never made any crap to sell it. And while I did enjoy the Naval missions a LOT more than the tower defense from Revelations, I really didn't do too many of those.

Honestly, I had little to no use for money at all, so why bother building and selling crap? I literally made it through the entire game with naught but the tomahawk and the hidden blades (using the sawtooth sword a bit...untill I discovered how ridiculously overpowered the tomahawk was). I had to shoot some people every now and then, but for the most part I just chopped people up and the game wasn't that hard.

I will say that I think Ezio was a far better character than Connor, and there were parts towards the end (and the ending, in particular) that really pissed me off as far as the story goes.

For me, though, Brotherhood is still my favorite.

I haven't seen much hatred for it, just disappointment from some people. To me, the game seems to be simply following the trend of decreasing enjoyment on my part. AC1 was an unexpected hit (for me, at least), 2 was good, but the ending left a sour taste in my mouth, Brotherhood was pretty good, better than 2 (though it had a IMO horrible soundtrack) and I still don't know what the revelations were in Revelations, after completing it twice.

From the looks of it, I won't enjoy AC3 all that much, because of the setting and the changes to combat, making it even more laughably easy. (I didn't die ONCE in either Brotherhood or Revelations during combat) The story parts I will have to take peoples' word for, though I will likely find out myself 'cause my little brother is very likely going to buy it.
