I have seen both endings and vehemently disagree. First off, while Deus Ex Machina is always a bad way to end a story, it's far more appropriate in Assassin's Creed, where we've been dealing with god-like beings since the second game.

Second, Mass Effect's ending was meant to to be much more of a conclusion than Assassin's Creed's. The ending of AC3 is sequel bait, plain and simple. Sure, you don't get to choose your ending, but when has Assassin's Creed ever claimed to be about choices?

Fair enough dude, complain away. It's just been annoying me because I've been seeing a bunch of people complaining (namely Kotaku writers) that the previous games did this stuff much better when they really didn't.
Ever heard of a subjective opinion? I still think AC2 is by far the best game in the series, does that make me wrong, in your eyes?

Meant just the Forrest Gump stuff/easiness/one button parkour that everyone complains about (well actually it was two buttons in everything else but whatever). AC2 and AC:B are the best by a long shot - better writing, better setting, better characters. Combat's really a matter of preference but I prefer the AC3 stuff which was highly derivative of Batman, and you just can't go wrong with that.

Also this is a pretty petty thing to complain about but the AC3 weapon wheel (chain?) is stupid as hell.

What ever dislike I have for the game comes from elements that were already in prior installments.

For instance, I never liked the whole future Desmond, ancestor memory retrieving tech, and ancient conspiracies of the supernatural crap. A whole bunch of stupid gobbledygook that was already established way back in the first installment, and stuff I can't really complain about because of it.

Also, I never liked the whole GTA4 influence of fluffing up the game with a whole bunch of pointless mind numbing mini games like building baroque furniture for some whorehouse you bought out from some... yeah! What ever! Can I just assassinate people... please? And this all began with AC2.

So, if anything, AC3 has had my favorite setting so far. Too bad it's just more of the same b.s. seen in it's predecessors that I was hoping the developers would take out.

It may due to personal preference since I'm a AC fan. AC3 was supposed to be the end of Desmond story. Instead of trying for a strong ending, they just end it. No payoff to all of this other than "See you next game". During the ending, it seemed like you were going to have a choice too! But...no. Desmond touches a magic ball and it's over. Ubisoft always did cliff hangers for AC games, but I at least hoped for a better conclusion than this... For an AC fan, this disapointing. However, I won't make 10 000 threads about it.

As for Mass effect, what would make things worst depends on how attached to Shepard's story and how pissed about a A,B,C choice. You guys at least get a choice with the deux ex machina.

Could we be civilised and not use the word 'hate' for 'disappointment'? I've seen very little if any hate for AC3. In most cases, including mine, it just lost a bit of focus and structure and has some more specific problems, none of which make it a bad game, just not as good as it could have been/was expected.
Exactly. It seems these days, you either love crazy something, or you hate its guts.

Assassins Creed 3 has issues. Its far from perfect and its not the best game in the series. All that makes it rather average, but not bad.

Naval Combat is the best part of the game.
Which is weird

Why is there no Pirates!-Remake with that level of awesome? :/

personally it's my favorite Assassin's creed game, the first one dragged the fuck on with it's long unskippable cutscenes where nothing happens save for two guys talking in a library...one of which is always spazzing out and walking into walls as some form of amusimg myself

the second one probably had the best story out of all of them, a likable protagonist, interesting narrative and the historical setting was much more vibrant and well realized than in any of the other games, thing is i really don't like how they stretched Ezio's story out over 3 games, he was great in the the first one, but by Revelations i was just tired of the guy. it's also incredibly easy...too easy, and it only got easier as such the combat in revelations was just laughable

the third one takes the cake for me as they finally figured out the combat, sure, you use the right weapon and it's a cakewalk but i choose unarmed combat throughout most of the game, only ever killing my targets and no one else, it made me feel a hundred times more badass than if i had just killed them all. plus in my opinion the parkour and freerunning flows better in AC3 than in any of the other games, it just feels more fun than in the first 4 games, and the fact that the buildings were shorter only added to that, i never had to slow gameplay down just to climb a particularly tall building, most all of them were a pretty comfortable height, plus Naval combat was entirely badass.

and in terms of story AC3 wasn't bad in my opinion, the protagonist could've been more interesting yeah, for both Desmond and Connor, but the story unfolding around them was certainly enough to maintain my interest...the Revolutionary story at least, Desmond's story absolutly sucked, they didn't show nearly enough of it, none of the modern day missions were as cool as anything going on in revolution era America, they killed off both of their interesting villains long before the climax and of course the ending was horrible...not as bad as the original ending to Mass Effect 3 though, at least in my opinion, because A. it isn't the absolute end, like ME3's was, this same storyline will continue on to future Assassin's creed games, so there's that and [spoilers] B. it got rid of Desmond, leaving behind Rebecca, Shawn and Desmond's dad who are infintely more interesting than Desmond himself [/spoilers]

so yeah, not prefect, but i freaking loved it, no where near the worst AC game, not while Revelations and now Liberation still exist

I would say hate is too strong a word, dissappointed would be my choice. The series has set a very high standard for itself and I (and many others) feel it didn't hit the heights we've come to expect. There's a couple reasons I think for this one being generally Ezio has been one of my favorite gaming characters of the past few years and Connor doesn't hold a candle to him, he was kinda boring though this might be because the voice actor actively annoyed me. Also the world didn't impress me as much which I was really surprised by, while I had high hopes at first with the 'frontier' forests I quickly came to find them boring, with very little in the way of vistas for me to seek out and admire the beauty. It turns out the cities of Assassins Creed were really vital to the formula and AC3 did not stack up. Oh, and it never helps when you prefer the the main characters dad and want to be him instead of Connor.

So while hate is too strong a word, I feel I have every reason to think this was the weakest game in the series.

EDIT: To its credit I had strange amounts of fun hunting animals, prefered doing that to most of the game.
