Why the Hate for Runescape?

After playing Runescape for a while, I got used to seeing regulars to the bigger games like WoW and Guild Wars who had made a character just to badmouth the humble people of Runescape. So I wanna know why it is that nerds spit on Runescape. Is it the fact that its a browser game? Is it the graphics? Does anyone have any ideas on this?

I guess its because people don't like the other big mmos, than the ones they play.

I dont know. I used to play runescape, but then stopped because I cant get into mmorpgs. Which is odd since I can easily get into rpgs. My cousin still plays runescape, and he has a blast playing it. Well, Runescape has changed a lot now, its a lot better than before.

It used to be cool. Then they got rid of the wilderness, killing new players in that place was the onyl reason i ever played that game.

I dont like it now since i dont like MMO's really. Hopefull Final Fantasy 14 cna change my mind.

It's because compared to the big MMORPG's of our time, Runescape is small and pathetic. People playing and liking it are liking an inferior game of the genre. The combat is worse, the graphics are worse, the story is worse, and the community is waaaay worse. Then there are issues like how the leveling system is horrible, the boringly small amount of different sets of armor and weapons for people playing free, and the awful magic system.

I was actually checking it out the other day. There were some fun elements that were fun, and I liked the light sense of humour the game has, but...

It's practically a fucking job - cutting down trees, mining, cooking, stuff like that. I just don't find it entertaining. Oh, and if you want to level up, you have to mine/cut down trees/cook etc for a ludicrous amount of time. I don't understand, aren't you meant to be better at cooking with experience?

I know not all browser based MMOs are like this, but Runescape takes the piss anyway.

Maybe the wow server is down, with nothing better to do then attack Runescape players? Just a guess.

well, yeah, runescape compared to other MMO's is like comparing a Fiat Uno from 1988 to a BMW M5 of 2006 (I know what I am talking about).

Something about the graphics turned me off to runescape, but from what bit I did play through, I found a rather solid and enjoyable game.

It's outdated, has a rather bad (subjective, I know) combat system and very dated graphics.

Of course, none of these factors actually MAKE a game unplayable - there will always be some who do...

But that's enough for me... If I want to play old games with outdated graphics, I'd rather play Warcraft 2/ Starcraft/ one of those 90's Dune games.

Yeah, pretty much that.

I used to play it, mostly due to the fact
1: I had a really crap pc, or I thought I did
2: My internet was crap
3: was 12 years old
4: other people in my class played it
5: seemed interesting enough
6: Its where I kinda started to develop my business sense (selling *free* planks for 1k each :D)

I came to level 60 something and just lost interest when I discovered WoW.
hmmmm...good memories....
but now I kinda went up to level 70 with my rogue and got bored
I guess mmos get boring after a while to people like me?

Asking what's all the hate about runescape is like asking what's all the hate for Twilight.

I'm gonna tell you what I tell the other ones -
If you can't find that obvious, you'd better go find out.

It's an okay game, and I used to play it quite a lot. People just like insulting other games because it makes them feel as if they're game is better, thus somehow making them better. Maple Story gets it just as much. (Although I have heard Maplers say Runescape has to much grind, which is like a pot calling the kettle a pot.)

Off-Topic, but I was just curious as to what that "Dungeoneering" skill is. I saw it mentioned when I checked out the Runescape website last week.

It's the best -free- game there is, but people will always claim other MMO's are better, and are probably right. It's just elitism.

Anyone who plays for free is better off playing Farmville and anyone who pays for Runescape... What the hell, dude?
That is really close-minded. I mean seriously? Some people have worked really long and hard to make Runescape, it has some of the best quests in the genre and you wont even have to pay subscription till you know if you like it. Yet you put it side-to-side with farmville?

I never played Runescape for long and the time i did scared me off. But i must say that the people who have made it put lots of effort into it. Even if it was mostly by writing and most of the people playing wont bother to read. Graphics may be poor and the combat-system may be userfriendly. But it stays free. Even people who dont pay can get to the high superduperlevels but before they reach that they probably either paid or left.

All in all i would say its average at best. Taking that the Graphics and Gameplay looks like something from the 80's. But saying that its utter shizzle?.. Well i think thats wrong.

You are right, on further evaluation, Runescape is miles better than Farmville.

It still isn't a good game though.

Why had the the term "Why hate for"

I certainly have "Hate" for the gutter, getto hommie term that has no place in the English language because ignorant people think they can make up terms word weren't meant to be used in.

And why the dislike of Runescape? You can play for free... but unless you like wearing paper hats, cardboard armor and being pk'd by people in steel armor who pay. You need to shell out money, ok fair enough. But until they the graphics look better than Ultima Six circa 1994 I'll play DDO.
