Also, the fact that most MMOplayers speak in numbers rather than actually writing them gives them a hint of weird... I mean looking at someone write LFG/W T15 L(M) 16-42 KCFC Only 1 Rn
is not even understandable.. But when somebody says it over a mic.... Yea.

That isnt just Runescape.. Thats about every MMO out there if you dont play a roleplay server.

I used to play runescape a lot, kept trying quit and eventually had to give my account away. The thing I hated (and still hate) is the grind. That's all it is, one massive grind that never ends. As a previous poster says, it's like a job.

It used to be cool. Then they got rid of the wilderness, killing new players in that place was the onyl reason i ever played that game.

I dont like it now since i dont like MMO's really. Hopefull Final Fantasy 14 cna change my mind.
Did they really? Glad I haven't played it in 6 or 7 years then.

Runescape hasn't changed anything for free players for years. I can't forgive that. You can actually complete the all the free quests in the game in a matter of months. It shows how little they care about anyone who isn't already paying for their product. There are also much better games where you can get a better experience without paying a damn dime.

I still play it, I dont give a shit what any of you think about it, I find it fun still. Wanna know why? because its a Free To Play JAVA WEB BROWSER MMO. Not WoW buy all 6 disks +40$ a month bullcrap or something rather, I like it because its simple and despite some of you saying its graphics are bad: Its a browser game! What did you want from it? Final Fantasy 13 Graphics?

Before anyone says its a grindfest (which I wont deny) guess what: So are all the other major MMOs. Especially WoW with its COMBAT ONLY feature.

I don't see why both of those can't be an issue. It's Java and it does look like shit. Fact. Now the browser thing is one part, both a blessing and a curse depending on how you look at it and what you're after, but you can't really argue with this: the graphics are sub-par by a LOT for its genre.

The main reason why I don't like Runescape (hell, the questing system is better than any other MMO* I've played) isn't the graphics, (nobody likes a graphics whore) but rather the fact that its creators don't care about the players too much, placing ridiculous limitations on the simplest things ("want to give away "10k" to a pal, WELL FUCK YOU, because we blocked that and the same thing goes for items") and also, it's a "kids' game" - even WoW has more mature players on average.

It's also boring and grind-tastic, but so is WoW (and all MMORPGs I've tried) and all of them bore me to desperation.

(This is not to say it doesn't have any good points at all; I like both the skill system (though not necessarily the skills - firemaking MY ASS - as well as the questing system more than WoW's, for example.)

It's just too bad that the creators decided to rape it with those stupid limits.

I didn't like it because it really lacked the "epic" feeling on the rest of the MMOs. Yes you can kill a dragon, but it's smack smack woo kind of playing.

The biggest thing though is the lack of classes. Everyone can be good at everything, which may be good in some games, but this means that the diversity is gone from the game. I love the whole spray of things in WoW, Warrior, Shammy, Warlock, all of it because they were all *different*.

I don't know, I left it and never looked back, except for recently when I logged onto the account and took all the valuable items and gold out of my bank. Then I made some newbie's day.

Although creating a character to grief everyone in the game seems kind of weird... that's like wanting to make fun of furries but dressing up as one anyways. Just odd.

Just my opinion, but I think it's because it's an old, popular game.

At some point, people hate all of the ones that have lasted a few years: WoW, CoH, Runescape, EVE, EverCrackQuest, et al.

I think the only game that isn't really hated is Starcraft--and most people just don't "get" that game's popularity after a decade.

Also, hating over the net is nothing new, so it's easy to just bash on something that you KNOW someone else likes just to bait them with no real repercussions. Perhaps it's just the circle of gamer geeks I hang out with off-line, but none of us really hate a game like Runescape it's just a game we don't play, so it's a friendly dislike versus a hatred for it.

This a late and I mean REALLy late post, but from someone who has just quite runescape I need to give my opinion. First of all runescape does not suck, if it does then every other MMo sucks because runescape is more of the same of other games. Sure it has it's problems, some very serious problems that I'll get into later, but no game would be a game without it's problems. Runescape like WoW is addicting, I'v played it for about four year two of those years as a member and I'v enjoyed most of the time on it. The game has also come a looooong way from what it used to be and it's still improving on graphics and content, and thats all we can really ask for. Now the major problems that make it a ball buster to play is it's broken leveing system, you mean to tell me that when i get to level 50 in a skill exp wise I'm not half way? More like when you get to level 95 THEN your half way to 99. The over the top grind, all MMOs have a grind factor to it, but runescape takes the cake in "death by grind." to the point you can waist a whole week and gain only one level. Jagex them selfs. Now i tip my hat to jagex for makeing such a good addicting game, and at the same time i kick them in the balls for but fucking a good game, all i will say is dwarf mini cannon, if you don't know what it is then you don't know true rage. But the last VERY big problem runescape has is the amount of hackers that seem to infest the game. I'v never played game where there were so many damned bots in my life, and the main reason i left runescape is because of the hackers that get a joy out of stealing your hard hearded items that you spent countless and i do mean countless hours grinding to get, the reason why i left some ass hole hacked my account right before bonus exp weekend and stole everything i had, that was the final straw with runescape for me. But in all it's a good game worth a play and if you plan on exspanding your time with the game upgrade to members. But if you can't stand people hacking you around every cornor, the stupid over powered cannons, the broken leveling system, and the fuck off grind then take it from me, look else where.

You forget the recent release of the Dungeoneering skill, also available to free players and the two new quests released for free players this year. Please do your homework before posting. And yes, I play and enjoy it.

People still pissed about the removal of the wilderness, maybe. Although I never understood that issue. I was never a fan of the wildy. When they took it away all I thought was "Oh... okay". Also they did kind of tear out a bit of the soul with the GE. Merchanting is now reserved for douchebags with clans rather than one savvy guy eking out the most money out of a chump. Nonetheless I think it's a fine game especially considering it's far less painful on the wallet than WoW.

I never really played runescape because at the time when someone said "oh look at this!,this is awesome" I was on WoW with a level 27 Hunter. I had been on adventure quest before and that was terrible because the last time I was on it, They weren't letting the people who only used the free accounts play! I like a game where I'm sure that once I'm playing I've got at least 97% of the game. I never went on runescape because one of my friends (same one from earlier) showed me his account because he wanted me to play it and it just looked terrible! (I'm 12 and that was when I was 8!!!) and he said "well yeah, it's not as good as WoW but the membership has graphics that nearly look like WoW" but really I hate when browser games claim to be free but you have to buy about 75% of the game and If you don't then they will eat up your shoes and make it not possible to level up anymore and all the good stuff is only for the people who paid who probably will stop playing in the next 7 MINUTES!

Runescape to me was good and it still is good.
I don't play it as much as I used to due to getting a PS3 and a certain timewasting drug called Team Fortress 2 (the PC version).

As for why other people hate it?
Probably because they took out the wilderness PKing (Makes Clue scrolls a hell of a lot easier), players of other MMO's disliking any MMO that isn't theres and the grinding you have to do to level up
