Personally, when you realize the level of detail in their single player campaign and the sheer number of assets that go into it, I can kinda understand why it's so short. Nevertheless, I really love the campaign, even though shooters aren't my favorite genre.

Because it is far inferior to CoD4 is every way, except for the option to play in 3rd person.
It's not a terrible game, it's just worse than its predicessor. A lot.

Oh, and CoD itself has become Activisions money cow. Lets all just buy BRINK and let CoD die.

I thought the new thing was to trash Black Ops, but ok sure.

OT: It was a huge step down from COD4, and brought about a crapload of imbalanced features to the multiplayer. On the PC side, the IWnet service promised lag-free and no hackers in exchange for dedicated servers. It completely gave us the opposite and just said "fuck you" to PC gamers. The single-player, although not important enough for me to care, was a huge step down as well. It exchanged the semi-realism of the first game (Key word: Semi) and just went full-out Michael Bay on us.

Black Ops seems like an improvement over MW2 from what's been said, and I can't wait to get it and either be amazed that there is some hope left in the CoD series or be disappointed that the CoD series is forever ruined.

The community sucks dick and the hitboxes can be fucked.

The lag can get nasty too thanks to IWNet.

because this thread pops up every 5 minutes. EVEN AFTER THE #*!%ing game is obsolete.
MOVE ON! we hate it because call of duty is an overblown testosterone-reliying wreak of a game with no rhyme or reason that focuses everything on multiplayer because it knows that it has no replay value played primarily by 12 year olds and hasn't contributed anything to games as an artform, giving it no right to be popular! I wouldn't have a problem with people playing for fun BUT MORE THAN HALF THE PLAYERS LIVE ON THE THING AND JUST PLAY ONLINE! expand your horizons! Psychonaughts is cheap now, dead rising 2 just came out, the scott pilgrim game transports you back to a time where you played multiplayer by having three friends over and pulling an all nighter, and better yet BUY A GAME THAT IS NOT AN FPS! try something new!

oh I'm sorry I just had to get that out of my system. if you play call of duty for a quick diversion, that's fine just experience the rest of gaming culture as well, or hell, go out with friends, read a book.

Commando
Secondary Shotguns
Noob Tubes
Secondary Launchers
Camping for Killstreaks
Hacker douches
Booster douches

Also because CoD4 was literally ten times as good.

Just an FYI, Black Ops is abbreviated BLOPS or Black Oops if you're being funny.

I didn't like CoD:MaWa Duce because when I was thinking about buying it it was still pretty bug ridden, and it didn't really do anything for me that CoD4: MaWa didn't do. BaFie: BaCo2 offered something more refined, team oriented, different, and for me at least, more enjoyable.

It's hailed as the second coming of Christ, but it's just another run-of-the-mill generic war shooter. Also an insult to game designers across the globe.

As bad as/Worse community than the infamous Halo/Xbox Live one
Extremely popular (to the point that it started to become a sort of face for gaming to those who don't game)
It's an FPS (shooters in general aren't very well respected due to their more obvious "sameyness", Valve games excluded of course given that this is the Escapist)
While the single player isn't horrible, the plot is utterly disgraceful in some areas, which isn't a good thing when it acts as a representative for gaming due to it's popularity (shows off a sort of "only here to shoot things" stereotype)
Lack of fun being had at points
Owned by Activision
Host of online gameplay issues
No Russian was a horribly overexaggerated controversy (hey, we're able to do what GTA has let us do for years: Shoot civilians! Only it's in an airport so it's edgy)
Captain Price didn't share his moustache tips with players
I completely agree with this, though I still enjoyed the game overall. That mustache thing was by far the worst offense.

I believe that people are hating on MW2 are hating on MW2 because it has gotten so big, that they are hating on it in order to stand out

What if I like playing to win? I personally enjoy playing competitive multiplayer games (RTS, Fighting games, Shooters, etc) where the better player wins.

I can understand that some people just do not like the genre or have personal issues with Activision or Kotick but personally I do not understand why many people especially people here dislike MW2 so much. Sure it has its flaws but what game doesnt there all made by people who definitely arent perfect. This isnt me saying that MW2 is the best game around. I own it and have some grievances with it (quick scoping in particular) but at the end of the day I can still enjoy it. So if you hate MW2 why and if you like it then same thing why?

EDIT: I do understand that both the topic of MW2 and this being a "why hate thread" is old and overworked like a NYC hooker. but since CoD:BO is officially being released in a few hours, I wanted to get everyone's opinion about MW2 now before they hate on Black ops
heres a few reasons
-short over the top campaign which was NOT worth 60 bucks
-broke-ass multiplayer
-meh graphics
-the fact that they could FIX the broke-ass multiplayer, and then nickel and dimed you fifteen bucks for 5 maps, 3 of which were just re-do's

BO looks pretty sweet imo, but seriously, MW2 was pretty much meh on all levels

TF2 anyone? lol

Well, some people simply don't like MW2, and that's fine.

But there are some people who think that if they say they hate popular things, it means that they are intelligent and sophisticated. This is a logical fallacy - sometimes popular things are popular for a good reason, rather than a bad reason. Bach and Mozart were both popular in their day, you know.

And then there are some people who like jumping on bandwagons.

Overall, while there are reasons for people to dislike MW2, I'm quite sure a few of the people who rant against that game haven't even played it, and hate it on principle, which is a silly thing to do. Somehow they have got it in their heads that only idiots play FPS games, as if playing RPGs or JRPGs or Strategy games meant that they were somehow "intelligent". Video-games are Video-games, let's not delude ourselves here - a grand intellect is NOT required to play almost any video game, and playing a certain genre or avoiding a certain genre says nothing about your intelligence at all.

Yes this is what I'm saying - saying you hate MW2 doesn't give you permission to put on a monocle, grab a glass of brandy and swirl it one hand while looking down your nose at everyone else. Saying you hate MW2 doesn't prove anything, other than the fact that you dislike the game. It doesn't make you any more intelligent than anyone else or any more refined in taste.

Of course, you can legitimately hate MW2 if it's not your type of game. I didn't like MW2's storyline or single player game very much at all, and after putting in about 50 hours into the Multiplayer, I stopped playing for good. MW2, in my opinion, is a decent game, but not gaming perfection.

Likes:
-Liked the campaign
-Liked the multiplayer, buuuuut...
Hates:
-The perks/killstreak awards are ridiculous
-n00btube
-Grenade Spam
-Generally unbalanced crap.

Want a better multiplayer game? MAG. MAG is addictive, fun, and doesn't have nearly as many problems as MW2. It doesn't look as good as MW2, but considering the SIZE and the DYNAMIC gameplay, it makes up for it. It's well worth the money I spent on it. Don't have a PS3? Sorry. Halo/CoD/GoW is pretty much all you got.

I enjoyed the game despite it's little niggles. From the top, My problems were(in no particular order, and for PC sepcifically)
Barrett sprayers
OMA/Danger Close Tube classes
Spawn trapping
Nuke boosting
Hackers
Incessant camping
inconsistent knifing
IWNet
30 bucks for maps no one plays
IWnet
Host Migration
random NAT restriction
Estate/wasteland
Various problems with perks (although, many can be played around.)
No support whatsoever
No Modding
PC community flat ignored
12 year olds
Various map design flaws (Getting stuck in random places, very bad camping spots)
Death streaks in General. Especially in Hardcore modes.
Inconsistent predator Missile trajectories.
Rank Hacking, which led to the lack of prestige when it came to earning emblems and Titles.
IWnet
No Dev console
Random Safe mode and Hardware change notifications on startup.

One saving grace for the PC version was the MW2 Config utility which made the game's various lockdowns bearable and allowed various graphical changes and also allowed multiple profile backups in case you were unfortunate to find an "unlock everything" server.
