Hate is retarded. Love is for idiots.

I am happy with my idiocy, and encourage others to enjoy the bliss that is internet apathy. (Having opinions of your own, and not really caring what the internet thinks.)

Which great man? Sounds familiar, like something Bill Hicks said.
Nah, not really. For all that Hicks was angry at people, and their stupidity, he also seemed to have so much hope. He genuinely believed we could be better, if only we'd pull our collective heads out of arses long enough to see it. Simply labelling everyone as 'shit' seems way too heavy handed, look-at-me-look-at-me-I'm-such-a-goth for Hicks.

I miss him :(

I agree. I'm not upset so much about the hate that it hurts me, but more that I am disquieted by the trend.

I act in internetz the same way I act real life. I'm asshole rude and hate things, but I might be bit more polite in text form.

But why the hate... B's if you go trough audience big enough there will always be someone who hates some specific thing and voices their opinion and the audience of Internet is HUGE! So small group of idiots is HUGE GROUP of idiots.

Fair enough. Although that's not the line he takes in a clip I saw the other day. I believe it's under the name 'people suck' on Youtube.

But I completely agree with you.

Hate is everywhere. The ONLY reason it comes out on the internet is the anonymity. Because you know if someone was stood there laughing at a man crying in real life, someone would kick the shit out of him.

I have been watching a lot of things on the internet. From Youtube to this site, and everything else in between. I think (especially in the case of the Escapist), there are a lot of great things to be had on the internet for entertainment, edification, or simply something to do when we are bored. Of course, there is a lot of hate. A LOT of hate for things. Far be it from me to squelch voices or take away one's freedom of speech, but there's something I watched recently and couldn't help but be hurt by it.

There is a number of videos on Youtube sourcing a man crying from the A&E show "Intervention" where a man cries in an emotional moment with his son. I have never seen the actual footage from this, but found the clip through one of my subscriptions online. Now, I suppose we could be cynical about this, and say that it was staged. It was, of course, a TV show, and it is possible. But let's look at it excluding the cynical view. It was a powerful, emotional moment. And though I will admit that the cry does sound unusual at first, it does look very honest and real. So there seem to be a number of comments and clips on youtube making fun of the man and the admittedly unusual sounding cry.

But then it hit me. Have people become so utterly blase about these things that they need to make fun of the man having an emotional moment? Do we honestly need to take down what everyone else says in order to feel comfortable with it? Having seen a lot of the responses on these forums for religion (I am a practicing Christian), I often see a lot of hate for that as well. It's all good and fine to present your argument in a constructive, even cynical light. But there are just so many people that say things like "_________ is retarded", or "_________ is for idiots". Why the hate?
Why not?

To expand on that quote of the same man (If I know who you're talking about)

"Because people are shit. Whenever I'm in a crowd, I think, 'Who left this shit all over the place?' I'm shit, you're shit, the world is shit. And if you're sitting there thinking, 'Yes it's true. Everyone is shit except me.' then you're a double bacon shit with large fries, Mr. Shitface. I'm sorry this reflects badly on me, doesn't it? I should have said Mr. or Mrs. Shitface." *begin generic rock music*

As a side note, when I found this video and waited for it to buffer (I remembered this quote was at the end of the video) I managed to click on the exact place where the quote began, first try. I was quite pleased with myself.

I'd like to think that it isn't "just the way humans are" as some have said here, but that it's more that it's just that those who "hate" are the loudest. I mean, how many times do you comment on a video to say, "that's ok" or "i don't care either way" I think people generally like to show that they don't like something on the internet, because it makes them feel better and helps spread their train of thought.

On another note I'd posted youtube videos that have gotten me comments like, "go die in a ditch and rot in hell!" The videos weren't rick rolls or griefer vids, just short funny videos I made and some people didn't like.

Hate is a symptom if retained anger. Anger isn't a necessarily unhealthy emotion, but it is not one you want to hang onto. Either use it and act on it or let it go.

The people you are describing Op are not doing what they are doing out of hate, for the most part. They are doing it out of a lack of empathy. The internet tends to give people the false impression that they aren't dealing with human beings when they communicate, and as such social graces and civility get cast aside in favour of "fr33 sp33ch, *****-fag!!1!"

Yeah, there was a lot of that stuff too. Honestly, I think the problem was that people just didn't live up to his expectations. I can imagine Jesus or whoever feeling the same way: you dispense wisdom, try to encourage people to be better, and nothing really changes.

It always seemed to me that a lot of his anger came from wanting a better world, and being fairly certain that it would never happen.

Or maybe I'm being being a complete art-school wanker, and putting far too much thought into it?

I hate things. You hate things. Everyone hates something. I don't know why exactly, but it's what we do. Anyone who claims not to hate something is either Mother Teresa or a bloody liar.

The internet is an easy place to express that hate. Anonimity, audience etc etc.

Although it's not like it only happens on the internet. Next time you have the opportunity, listen in on two people having a conversation. Before long they will be talking about something they hate. It could be thier their job, their boss, their friend's boyfriend, the weather, politics, politicians, lawyers, cops... whatever. We all hate something.

Maybe, but personally I try to be nice to people unless I have a reason not to be. And by the way I'm not referring to you personally when I say 'you'; it's more of a general statement.
