Why the hate?

After reading/hearing about the exploits of a certain church based in Westboro I have to wonder, why so much hate? What is the reason behind this all consuming rabid hatred that these people seem to have? I'd think that having such anger in you twords all others all the time would be a sad way to live.

But then again I'm a pretty easy going guy. I have no problem with furrys which even otherwise kind and rational people on the internet seem to abhor. I guess if you keep it to yourself so to speak it's not such a big deal. But these people seem to have based there lives around this all consuming hatred. Going so far as to protest all these thing that they dislike. In an attempt to, as I like to say, troll the rest of the world.

Any way here are the topics of discussion,

1.) What drives these extremest groups to have such a frothing at the mouth hatred?
2.) How much and what kind of hatred twords others is OK?

And as a personal inquiry

3.) Is there any other group that the Westboro Baptist Church doesn't hate?

I'm pretty sure it's all a publicity joke. I doubt they mean what they say.
Unless they really are a gaggle of idiots.

But I reserve my hatred for the Chu-no, the Cult of Scientology. I'm sorry, I just don't have enough white hot hatred to go around.

Because they're scared of the unknown?

I personally respect religion but they're scared of the unknown which is why they believe in someone who will supposedly save them when they die and take them somewhere happy.

So they hate things they don't understand or see as wrong to them.

Also hatred towards others is a difficult one.

Hate 'bad' people who intentionally cause harm as they forfeit the right to any sympathy or compassion.

And finally, no probably not.

The reason for the hate in WBC although ZombieGenesis could be right. but allow me to explain why they are hated

1. They go to soldiers funerals saying that they are going to hell for being Homosexual
2. Going on public Television saying "Thank god for 911" and "thank god for the Halocaust"
3. They were going to picket at James Dio's Funeral saying that he will go to hell for apparently "worshipping the devil" even though he did nothing of the sort.

Haters gonna Hate.
Truer words have never been spoken.

But yea, probably because there all old fucks. They are simply stuck in generations where rascism and chauvinism were rampant, and homosexuality were looked down upon. Don't worry, like every generation, they will die off.

Methinks you misunderstood my post. The Idea is not, why do people hate the WBC. But rather, why do they seem to hate everyone else.

People hate people. Has always been, will always be.

"As long as there are two people in the world, someone is gonna want someone dead"-The sniper.

As jokey as it is, there be truth in thar humourous TF2 quote. Humanity is a race with an extreme love of hate, and a deep infactuation with all forms of meaningless violence. The trick is making sure as many of the few reasonable people there ever were live as long as possible, because those few are the only people stopping the world doing what it always wanted to do and drowning in it's own blood.

Or, they could just be massive morons.

They're a family of lawyers trying to bait people into attacking/persecuting them so that they can sue the shit out of them. No, seriously. I'd link you to the Phelps-Chartered law firm, but their site is no longer available.

This pretty much sums it up; Fred Phelps himself was permanently disbarred in 1979 in the state of Kansas for verbally abusing a court reporter during a trial. Took ten years for him to be permanently disbarred on a federal level, but his family was allowed to continue as attorneys. So yeah, baiting people into attacking them, and then suing them to make money is pretty much his M.O. Textbook examples of professional trolls, if you will.

Ah that makes much more sense. No point in going to a gay mans funeral and saying "Todd will burn in hell" otherwise. It's not like anyone there is going to see your protest and be like, "now that I think about it he will. I'm going to join this church.".

But let's look at another example then like neo nazis, Klu Klux Klan, or certain other more "legitimate" religious extremest.

Meh. Hate in America. A multi-billion dollar, mostly NOT FOR PROFIT industry.

Consists of:

1) People who are discriminated against of all races.
2) People who discriminate- AGAIN of all races (not just the popular "whites only" argument)
3) People of all races who vow to end Hate in America while gaining profit/perks for proliferating it.

It's sad really....

I will add one extra point: As long as someone can make money from "Hate in America" there will always be someone who will- as a part of a "non-profit" organization so they can fly under the radar.
