Obviously this is your opinion (it annoys me that I have to say that) and I know this might seem rude of me, but Facebook is a social resource for the
sociable. Saying "Why do I want to talk to any of my old High school classmates?" is a pretty damned unsociable thought in a sense, and assuming that they're just going to be stacking shelves and doing nothing (which could well be true, I don't know them but you never know) is just as bad. Besides your immediate friends, was there honestly
no one else who you gave a second thought to once you left school, and might think "I wonder what they're up to now?"?
Not to mention it is a good place for discussion. This is a great place for discussion, but you can't discuss everything here. That's just my take on it, I feel it's a valuable social resource, as you get older and go through university and whatnot and meet more people who might not be in walking distance, it becomes more useful.

Facebook is good to stay connected to people across seas. Moving from one country to another, it's more personal with pictures and constant reminders that they are living and being cool other than emails.
I agree, it's not always easy to keep in touch with people, and it's better than an e-mail in my eyes. And personally I also use it for organising events and shooting schedules, so it's useful for that too.
