Maybe most people are already throwing their wallets at Mighty No. 9? It's way more attention getting than this. The successor to Mega Man vs. a Bioware writer of disputable quality? I know which project I'd be backing.
Screw that I threw my money at the Shantea kick starter :D.
Screw that, I threw money at both of them.
I like this guy, he throws money at not ONE but TWO kick starters with real meat behind it :p.

I've been nonplussed by Bioware for ages (since Me2, I guess). Why wold I throw money towards a Bioware clone with a former Bioware writer?

As it is, I probably won't be putting forth money for Mighty No 9, a game that interests me far more.

1. Because i detest Kickstarter. "Give us money for a Game that either wont be made at all, with only half it's features, or derail horribly after early access!". Also, because it started the horrible trend of throwing a metric Fu*kton of Bonuses at Kickstarter-backers. In a lot of cases, you have to PAY into a kickstarter to even TEST the Game. Lookin at you, Castle Story.

2. It's Hepler, and i think her bad writing and stance on Games make her absolutely unsuited to be involved in Videogames at all. Almost everything she wrote in DA2 was either outright bad, or mediocre at best. So even IF i would actually use Kickstarter Hepler would be the last person to get Money from me.

Didn't know it existed. Lack of publicizing it? Well, now it's presumably way too late.
I don't think I played a single of the games pictured with her paragraph, mind. Also, I just noticed Hepler joining is just a stretch goal. For a second there I thought she was already involved with the project/the team, but apparently not. Also, also, I can't say I've ever heard of the Sime~Gen universe.

I bet if they set their stretch goal for $3 million that they would prevent Hepler from ever writing again for any game, they'd reach it in 2 days.

Well, after that passive aggressive antagonism she wrote in the interview for why she joined the project, I wasn't inclined to back it. Sniping at people isn't going to win you support.

I'm only really vaguely aware of Hepler, so that's not really a thing to me. I did pledge $50 to it, because sometimes I'm dumb and certain phrases (story-driven, choices carry major, plot changing consequences) will trigger the ape like "throw-money" instinct I have. I doubt I'll have to pony up, though, since it was at about 63k or so out of 500.

I guess this is the chick that wanted a skip combat option, and honestly, I can't blame her for that. I know during ME2, I wouldn't have minded a "fuck all this" button when yet another goddamn wave of the same baddies crouched behind the same goddamn walls while I had Sheperd hump his goddamn wall and, for fuck's sake, I just wanna get more Legion dialogue, stop holding out on me game. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that's not a good thing for a game to need, so I can see the point of people who didn't like the idea.

As to the original question, I think the thread's answered it pretty well; wariness about the skip combat chick being brought into the project, iffy marketing, goal off for what they want to do, honestly the fact that this is the first I've heard of this thing, take your pick.

Forgive me if I've read this wrong, but why is she claiming to be Lead Writer in her seperate post when she won't join until the game hits a stretch goal (presumably to ensure she gets paid)?

EDIT: Wow, someone has hurled $10,000 dollars at this. Srsly?

This gets a big meh from me, I mean I'm not going to wish them any ill will but I don't see any reason why this would be successful. The biggest kickstarter's tend to run on nostalgia, or lesser but successful ones fill a specific niche. Want to make an RPG? Namedrop Balders Gate or Fallout. A Platformer? Get the guy who made Mega Man. A Sci Fi? Make it a Space Sim and start with the guy who made the Wing Commander series.

I mean they keep calling it an 'award winning' setting, but who's ever actually heard of Sime~Gen and what exactly did it win awards in? Also with a few exceptions the RPG genre is typically dominated by a fantasy setting, unless it's Mass Effect/Old Republic and to a lesser extent Beyond Good & Evil I don't see many people longing for a sci-fi RPG. And fully voice acting? That's a norm for modern games, people who fuel kickstarters on nostalgia want to see text conversation so we can get back to those really deep storyline we used to have in games like Planescape: Torment. Also, the writer that they're promoting has only really worked on modern games and seems to be a controversy, not someone like Chris Roberts who made Wing Commander.

So basically I see no nostalgic factor in this kickstarter and little niche value. Contrasting that the game's funding goal is not only rather lofty for a complete unknown but also considering everything they want to do it doesn't seem like nearly enough. Like someone here mentioned the Shantae kickstarter, whose goal is $100k less and only intends to be a richly animated sidescroller, not an epic fully voiced 3d sci-fi RPG.

In general new IP have an hardtime on kickstarter... Most of the big success on it had big name behind it, eighter the IP was well know (ShadowRun) or the studio behind it is also well know and with a good reputation (Double fine)

Because she is not a good writer, only made known to the public by riding a wave of harassment? I've got to say, she came out of this regretful story more famous than she has any rights to be based on merits of her work. Also the fact that she was a senior writer for DA Inquisition does not feel me with joy...

The game itself doesn't look too bad at all. I don't know though. I'd have to see a demo of how it would basically work before I would be sold on it.

Most likely reasons:
- they didn't have much exposure
- their first outing was by their star writer calling their game a rip-off
- same star writer that does not to like games
- same star writer well known for trolling it's fan base and the community hates
- same star writer that isn't that good at writing

But personally I don't see this working out in that budget, they are indeed aiming for a triple A experience which is admirable, but there is no way in hell you can deliver with that kind of money and that small team, at best this will end up as an ambitious mess.
Also them bringing on Helper does not make me look forward to the story, which is suppose to be their main thing...

Anvil of the Void questline, Branka and Hespith especially. - This was probably one of the creepiest questlines I've ever seen in a game and I recently played a game that had questlines that got very rape-y and dealt with suicide.
Wasn't that the point, though? I got the impression it was supposed to be creepy. (What's with all the cannibalism and rape.)

the issue i can see with it is that it doesnt have one of the major pros asking for this sort of money needs. that is an established, well known and loved IP, a huge name in the industry, or an established studio.

i get what they are trying to do even if ive never heard of this universe before but they are simply too ambitious with this kickstarter.

simply by this time if they havent got most of what they are asking for people like me will look see how much they need and how much time is left and not contribute
According to Kicktraq they need $24,000 a day untill the kickstarter ends for them to reach the goal.

Apart from one day (that hit $27,000) they have yet to break the 10k a day mark, the past two days didn't even break $1000.

I doubt this will make it.

I pointed this out in the thread of the original story, but they are clearly over promising with 3D-fully-voiced-localized-cutscenes-with-indepth-character-and-armour-customization-and-choices-that-actually-matter(lol) all for $500000. People have gotten very cynical over the Ouya and Broken Age debacles and the view that Kickstarter is "the future!!" is dying hard.

Also, you know, Hepler. Nobody likes her anymore.
