Apparently, in the UK at least, the wipes are extremely bad for the sewage system. This is because they combine with grease and cause a blockage.

The wipes should be fine, sewers have processors [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi1V7gXyVeo] in them of various sizes that can crunch up almost anything that would fit down toilets. Typically they will have a single machine at the joining of several small diameter residential drains and later on whole banks of them where sewers start getting to the 1m and over size, 30m x 10m wide chambers of them are not uncommon on trunk sewers. The grease and cooking oils cause the problems as it obviously cannot be shredded, in sewers near concentrations of fast food outlets and restaurants you can get blobs of it bigger than a person blocking the sewers.

Yes I have a weird interest in civil engineering of all kinds.

Don't moist wipes contain rubbing alcohol and other agitating chemicals that affect your skin? Why the F would I want to put that crap on my sensitive parts? For that matter, why would anyone put that crap on a baby's bum? It makes no sense.

Fun fact: I got banned from Steam's old internet forums for starting an off-topic discussion about the varieties of toilet paper and how they get used. Escapist forums FTW!

Would "Pocket Full of Hawthornes" be too NSFW to link here?
Emm...Never!

OT: They make my bum feel wet after. Like a swamp. Not a nice feeling.
Watched the video three times... still don't comprehend what the what.

OT: I'll take my lovely cloud-soft TP, thanks. The idea of adding liquid to a filth disaster area makes me squick.

Better, but related question:

why aren't bidets more popular outside of Europe?

P.S. Where the heck are you guys buying moist wipes that are cheaper than standard TP?

Sorry couldn't help myself. Saw your comment and this was the first thing I thought of.

To the OP. Eeermm. You know I never thought about it. I suppose if there was nothing else and I really needed to go then you use what's available right? To that end moist wipes sound like a viable alternative.

What kind of pussy shit is this 'toilette paper'? As usual, it's up to Australia to be more badass than everywhere else:

...lol? anyway I was always under the impression that moist wipes were more expensive than toilet paper. esp since you could get the latter in really large bulk sizes heh

Moist wipes aren't that great. You're really suppose to use cotton wool and warm water on a babies bottom as wipes can be harsh and cause rashes, some are filled with chemicals.

Baby poo is different to adult poo, it does not come off with dry paper like adult poo can.

paper easily half the price here in oz
i use a combination of paper and wet wipes but i will not be going into any details you filthy disgusting savages
my wet wipes are enriched with aloe vera and contain no harsh chemicals and if they kill a few dolphins and block a few sewers on their way out of my toilet then i consider that a small price to pay for having sanitary delicates

Weird question i know , but something happened to make me wonder this .

A friend of mine recently had a baby . Now she doesn't have much money and she's a single mom . While visiting her , i needed to use the bathroom , and lol and behold there was no toilette paper ( i ALWAYS check beforehand ) . But i saw baby wipes on the counter . So i asked her if she had any toilette paper , she said that it was too expensive but to use the wipes instead , they are cheaper and work really well . Needless to say i held my urge .

Now this got me to thinking . We will wipe a childs bottom with a moist wipe , but adults use toilette paper . Why? Why don't we adults use moist wipes ? I would imagine it's better to get "grime" off . Also it's good for babies so it should be fine for adults . And it's cheaper than buying toilette paper . I imagine there would be a wet sensation that we aren't used to , but that's easy to overcome .

So my question is , why do we wipe a childs bottom with moist wipes but " upgrade" to toilette paper as we get older?

Bonus question . Would you wipe yourself with a moist wipe if necessary?
Why on earth would you hold your urge? Moist wipes get you far more clean than dry TP. You should try it sometime and compare. :)Using the dry then the wet then the dry works better than one or the other. TP is actually a downgrade rather than an upgrade. However, the moist wipes are far more expensive (your friend is incorrect) However, if she is receiving assistance, or discounts, the assistance often covers the costs of wipes, but not TP, so that may be less expensive for her personally, although the actual cost is higher. Also you cannot flush wipes, so you also have the additional costs in disposal as well. But yes, from a santitary standpoint, they are far more sanitary than using TP.
