Just to clarify, when I mentioned the "bloody annoying" people, I meant the kind of "hot topic" wiccans. Y'know, trenchcoat, probably teenage, typically "gothic" types. Those kinds of people.
See, this a problem. Wiccan =/= Goth, and a lot of people who are into Goth culture are not into Wiccan culture and vice versa. You're kind of crossing your stereotypes here, which is gonna lead to confusion.

When I think of "bloody annoying" Wiccans, I think of people dressing like they're off to a Medieval Fair, with tarot cards at the ready, who say things like "oh my stars!". I can't find a clip of it, but there was a character on an episode of Charmed, the Friday the 13th episode, that hits the nail on the head.

I know some Christians and priests wear the crucifix up side down so they can look at it properly when they lift it too. So looks the 'Christ' way around to them.
From what I've heard, the reason some christians wear the cross upside down is because they consider it more humble. Apparently, St. Peter (I think it was) asked to be cricified upside down because he felt he didn't deserve to die in the same way as Jesus.

I could be wrong though. After all, I'm pretty sure I got this info from a cracked article.
No, that's accurate. I remember that from my childhood as a Catholic. Hmm... getting a little morbid here, but I wonder about the medical science behind being crucified upside down. I know crucifixion kills by making the lungs collapse, but I wonder if having the blood rush to your head from being upside down makes you pass out sooner or anything.

No, just kidding.

In my experience they're like any group of quirky subculture types, some are cool, lovely people and some are giggling gitboxes and some are self righteous assholes eager to tell you how wrong you are and some you wouldn't know for their interests or beliefs unless you asked.
This. People are just people.

As for the view itself, anyone that claims at all to have any real definite knowledge on how this universe was formed/where we came from/what happens to us when die is either lying or hasn't come to the realization that all those questions are in fact unknowable.

That goes for you Atheists too.

Well, that's kind of what I mean, goths who claim to be wiccans, not goths who I assume to be wiccans. It's possible, of course, that a goth could be utterly serious about it, but they don't tend to be annoying.

I think it's as ridiculous as any other religion, but I don't mind anyone who isn't a dick about it and shoves it in my face (or someone who is just a dick in general).

Gripe- People have a habit of mislabelling anything remotely `witchy` Wiccan.
A lot of people who are into magic and tarot and stuff like that are not technically Wiccans.
Right, this is a bit of an irritating subject for me. My parents are pagan.
I know pagan is a bit of a blanket term, but I don't particularly know which branch of the whole magic thing they hang out on or care to ask. So, when someone asks, I say `pagan`.
Wiccanism is a specific religion - it is not part of neo-paganism (aka 'paganism' since the official name sounds stupid).

There are some shared beliefs, but there is also plenty that is different.

And while I realize you probably already know this, Phasmal, I figured I'd reply to you anyway for those who don't.

And yes, for the record, I also read Tarot cards. If I were so inclined, I could sell Tarot readings on E-bay (at least until it was banned - bastards).

So yeah, not everything like that is Wiccan, OP.

Well technically, virtually anything is possible. So it's possible, but not likely that Wicca has much...uhm, word?
I think 'Wicca' was invented in the 70's wasn't it. Other Pagan religions should be respected though like druidism.
Present-day druidism is just as recent as Wicca (well, actually a bit less recent, but still created in the same 'take-some-scraps-of-info-and-create-a-religion-around-it' way), since we know next to nothing about actual ancient druidism, and most of what we know comes from the Romans who might not have been entirely objective with their descriptions, considering they were busy conquering said druids.

I tend to look down on wiccans more than I do other religious types (or at the least, just as much).

Don't get me wrong, I think all belief in a religious or spiritual world of whatever sort is ridiculous and that such ideas are nonsense, but at least when it comes to the christians and such, it can be more of a passive thing where at most, they expect god to be guiding their lives behind the scenes or something, not directly giving them shit wishmaster style. And since no direct interaction is required, the belief can persist based on nothing.

For Wiccans however, my only experience with one has informed me that magical spells and potions are treated as real things, and unless I was misinformed, that's beyond laughable. Not only is it just as silly as the belief in say, heaven, but it's not passive. It's not simply sitting back and accepting that something will happen that can't be proven nor disproven while you still live, I can't even begin to understand the level of self-delusion required for someone to "cast a spell" and actually believe they accomplished something.

Edit: On second that, I suppose other religious types can be just as bad. As someone above pointed out, believing in magic isn't much different than praying. Casting a spell is rather similar to praying, and in either case actually expecting something to happen as a result is insane.

Edit Edit: Correction, expecting something to happen is just stupid, deluding yourself into believing that something did indeed happen is the insane part.

I haven't had any real experience of Wicca. The only 'Wiccans' I have known were a group in college that used it as an excuse to fuck constantly in public parks.

Personally I view Wicca and other modern religeons as slightly lower than older religeons, simply because we can go back to an exact year and say, "[name] made it up right here".

Live, let live, etc.

I don't know much about Wiccans, but if they're not doing anything that could directly or indirectly bring harm to somebody, then I see no reason to dislike them.

My knowledge of Wiccans comes entirely from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. Notably, they have a lot of bake sales, are Greenpeace's annoying younger sibling and annoy witches.

I once went out with someone who was a Wiccan.

She was all kinds of strange, what with her stones, weird books, incense candles, and all that shit.

She had bloody huge breasts though, so she was great in the sack. What can i say, I think her magical wiccan sex powers worked.

Incense, I think you mean. Or I hope that's what you mean.
Yeah I know I'm picking on a typo but that was hilarious.

I like to keep an open mind and let people believe what they want to believe if it makes them happy. Just as long as they don't shove it into my face and try to convert me or hurt people. Though I have never met anyone who call themselves a Wiccan.

As with all religions and belief systems, I'm cool with them so long as they don't go trying to aggressively convert me. Unfortunately my religion doesn't like what they believe in but I'm totally cool with the person.

..."Getting wiccy with it"...
One of my oldest friends (as in, she and I have been friends for years, she isn't old) is a Wiccan. I'm going to use that 'gettin' wiccy with it' line on her for lolz and if I get punched I'm blaming you for putting the idea into my brain. She can practice and believe whatever she wants so long as I'm not dragged into it and, nobody else is bothered by it if they don't want to be (as it should be with all religions...unless of course gifts/free things are involved)

Anyway, despite her beliefs and the things I've seen, there's too much that I haven't seen/heard/experienced. I don't believe in the power of gem stones, I don't believe I'll ever be able to sense an aura though I'm open to them existing and, I don't think the position of the moon has any specialty significant meaning on me or, people in general. I'm willing to be proven wrong but I'm not one for straight-up, blind belief of anything.
