This is more for melee weapons but by all means mention firearms, just make sure your choice isn't all over the place in the media like the G36c. My melee weapon of choice is the kusarigama: just move the place the chain attaches to to the bottom of the sickle.

A firearm I want to see is the Charlston Conversion 30 cal rifle. I don't have a video though.

Cricket bats...

When was the last time someone got done for aggravated assault with a Kookaburra?!
Shaun of the Dead.

I find hammers, warhammers, etc. don't really get very much love in popular media, most likely because they lack the "elegance" of a sword or the brutality/simplicity of an axe. The weapon a character uses can say a lot about them, but unless you are a Dwarf or Thor you simply don't see very many combat hammers. Even in medieval settings, which should be swimming in them, the mace is the more popular alternative.

Not to mention it was rightfully popular in history since it made a great can opener against those heavily armored guys trying to kill you.
But weren't they petty small in real life, compared to the huge lumps of metal on sticks you usually see in fantasy? Like this size:

I'd say the humble crossbow. It's not very elegant. It's a machine built to flick sharp sticks, invented because training people into reliable archers just takes too long. It's a bit like the AK-47 in alot of ways. But it's got an elegance of its own in the reguard. It's a brutish, simple machine, practical and usually served in droves.

Although there was that awful Van Helsing-film... Honestly, the drum-fed machine crossbow was the only character in that film I liked! Give it an Oscar!

Not very large, longer range than most knives, capable of fluid and quick movements, and hard enough to break bones.

Also, Nunchaku. When are they used, typically? Whenever someone untrained needs to make a fool of themselves by buying them off the internet.
