I had heard of this problem before. Apparently there is a problem with some graphic cards not supporting the shaders of the game leading to a yellow sky.
Possible solutions can be:
1. Update your graphic card drivers.I had heard Nvidia 168.18 drivers can fix this problem for some but its always better to get the latest drivers.
2. Patch the game up to 1.0005 update. This also solves many glitches that some people encounter and fixes a few things.

Speaking of Stalkers, I happened upon thinking I could use noclip to get to the hidden stalker in Nova Prospekt in Half Life 2. upon shooting it the game crashed. I found that there was no programmed ragdoll for the stalker, so if he dies the game crashes. Who knew!

Well atleast you weren't hit by a constant and uncureable(well it could be weakened but it would eventualy come back) hemorrhage that never went away and only got worse by time, and you can't find any bandages (even though I was in a freaking hospital) and then a bloody choppers comes to shot at your ass.

Really? Not just have the stalker become stiff and immaterial?

That's what happens to drinol in Halo 2. But the Source and Halo engines are quite different aren't they?

If you have an NVIDIA card, most definitely look into installing NGO Optimized Drivers. NGO modifies NVIDIA/ATI drivers and redistributes them unofficially. They offer improved performance and graphics in many cases.

Uninstalling the official drivers and installing NGO drivers made a WORLD of difference on my PC, and may very well fix your problem.
