Sadly, there is a startlingly large number of people claiming they will purchase the WiiU on release, regardless of any events leading to that time or the quality of the product itself. I personally see the item as little more than a larger DS and have no doubt in my mind that some time from now, the general opinion will be a mixture of disappointment and apathy--much the same as the 3DS and the Wii before it.
Why is people wanting to buy a console at launch a "sad" thing when they've shown an awesome launch and near launch line-up? I'm getting it because they've got Pikmin 3, ZombiU, AC3, Scribblenauts, an awesome looking Lego City game, Rayman Legends, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Darksiders 2, Arkham City, Metro Last Light and more coming out for it at launch or near launch. I'm also buying it because really, I'm a PC gamer at heart, so I don't want something that I can use to just play less graphically impressive ports of games I can get cheaper on the PC, which is why if the next Xbox or Playstation just stick to the same formula I'm not buying them. I want something new, innovative and fresh and I'm sure the industry needs something like that, that's why I'm getting the Wii U.

You misread or misunderstood the context of my comment. I noted that it was sad in my opinion that "a startlingly large number of people [claim] they will purchase the WiiU on release, regardless of any events leading to that time or the quality of the product itself." To guarantee you will purchase a product regardless of any issues or developments between now and its release is to give into blind fanaticism. If you like what you see so far and am intending to purchase the console, I'm glad you have found a product you will perhaps enjoy. But of those admittingly ignorant and uncaring of quality and the future, I have little respect.

Here is why the Wii U will be the most successful console of the next generation:

- It will be the first to market by a long way
- It will be more powerful than this current generation. Thus for a time it will also be the technically superlative console.
- It will be cheaper than anything MS or Sony will produce, and it will make a profit, not a loss
- All the online, advanced motion control, media and high-def features will be fully integrated at the outset.
- Bizarre controllers and perhaps other surprise gimicks
- Backward compatibility with Wii games

The only reason the 360 is so popular is that it was the first console of its generation. It had a user base financially invested and a large games library before the others were even announced. Nintendo getting to market first this time is an absolutely genius move. They will have the loyal nintendo crowd, the parents/kids/casual crowd and will attract many of the hardcore gaming crowd too. 360 games have been old and clunky now for 3 years or more, tired rehashes of Unreal Engine 3 bollocks and many tens of thousands will be glad for the industry to move forward once again, myself included.

The only thing that may hurt the Big N, is that AFAIK the new console won't have blu ray, which many people by now are already invested in as their home entertainment format of choice. The media capabilities and, whether or not people or Nintendo like it, how easy it is to pirate/hack/homebrew/etc with will also play a major role in its success. It's launch lineup will largely be irrelevant I believe. As long as there are a handful of at least decent games, backward compatibility and the fact it'll be first to market make launch lineup much less relevant.

I think it'll be the wii over again,

they'll release it at an inevitably high price because of those tablet thingies,

a few casual gamers will buy it with a couple of games and then in about 6 months time when it goes down in price the rest will,

most of the hardcore audience wont buy it,

the 720 and Ps4 will get released,

depending on how ms/sony handle them most 360 owners will buy a 720 and most ps3 owners will buy the ps4,

the ps4 and 720 will have much higher hardware capability and most developers will focus on those,

the casual gamers wont buy many wii-u games and it'll bite nintendo in the ass

I want the Wii-U to fail so hard it makes Nintendo pull their finger out, or at least fail so hard that Microsoft and Sony stop copying their stupid business practice.

The success of the Wii was a fad, an accident. Right place, right time. As someone has already said the casual Marketa now has plenty of other venues to meet their tastes. Playing tennis in front of your telly is going to enthrall the casual demographic, but god knows they've already got tablets galore. Made by companies who have much more successful markets.
Right place + right time + right market = accident? OF COURSE!

I think Nintendo can do what they like, if they make money, then go for it.

To me it just seems like a bigger, more powerful Nintendo DS, so the idea of it is definitely outdated...

Ha!

Wii-U will follow the same path of innovative ideas and using the tech well to make good games.
This isn't 2002 and a touch screen by itself isn't innovative anymore. Nintendo have yet to show me any reason that someone should be excited about this console.

FYI, I work in a RadioShack and you guys really have NOOOOO IDEA how fast tablets sell. This is going to make BIG MONEY.
I think most people do have an idea of how popular tablets are. And that's Nintendo's problem. Core gamers don't care about them and casual gamers are already buying them because they serve that market better than the Wii U could ever hope to since they aren't tied to a TV.

Soooooo.... You all really care that much about graphics? Haha don't play Xenoblade then.

pffffft

ok, the Wii had its good points and all...but don't act like our questioning the Wii U is unreasonable or due to "duurr hurrr bad graphics"

going by how things went even though the Wii sold well ,when compared to the offerings of the other platforms....for must of us here its pathetic

sure the Nintendo games are solid (well if your not gonna touch the "dead hoarse" argument) but you give me a list of good things on the Wii and I'll double it with all the other platforms,

but that's the thing though....by how much? because it doesn't seem to be marginally more powerful than the current (outdated) consoles

I mean why would you buy something that's pretty much doomed to be an entire generation behind in a short space of time?

I already have a console...why do I need another one if its not going to be all that different?

The thing for me is that if you take that console list, I could double it with games from the PC. Apart from a small group of games, the xbox and PS3 are just shitty PCs while Nintendo consoles at least try to be different.

...duly noted....

I actually meant PC as well..I wasn't refering to "PS3 and Xbox" I was referring to the [b/]other platforms[/b] since I tend to take notice of cross platform titles rather than exclusvies....

"different" does not mean better....I honestly dont give a flying fuck how different the Wii is because to me all it means are nintendo games (NOT INTERESTED) and mountains of shareware /rant

ok sorry, that was aggressive..but damn

I will most likely get a WiiU at some point for the same reason I get any nintendo console, the exclusive games, I get the DS for pokemon and castlevania and I got the Wii for brawl and mario kart and I got both for kirby games.
