To be honest, I think they have a bit of something here one a few points...
First and foremost since when has the most powerful system always been the best one? From the Intelevision and Colecovision being more powerful then the 2600 to the Wii this gen, the most profitable has been rarely been the one that's most powerful, but the one with the games that most want. At least this is the first controller that Nintendo has put out since the SNES where there not making 3rd parties jump though hoops to get there games to work on it (GameCube was close and the classic controller isn't the standard controller). For all it's bells and whistles, at it's base is the same 2 analogs, controller, face and shoulder buttons that have been the main control set up that has been the standard since the first Dual shock... there's a reason that Sony don't change that, it works great. This means that 3rd parties are not going to avoid putting out games on it nearly as much as the Wii.
Of course then again, only one controller on a system? And how much is that controller going to be to replace if it's broken?...
With that covered, now you can add all the other more unusual things that this thing can do and I honestly think that Nintendo may just have a real chance at hitting this one completely out of the park. In the end this is all speculation and only time will tell.
