Mordin can probably cure Thane. If Mordin survives the suicide mission, I have little doubt that Mordin will cure Thane and he will appear in the next game. I thought it was odd for Bioware to kill a box-art character whos not the villain, especially a romance option to boot. Can he die? Im sure that will be a possibility, like if Mordin is killed during the suicide mission or something else, but I would be willing to bet he will be in ME3, alive.

I know it will be odd, and really sudden, and probably out of character, but if he can engineer a tozin that prevents an entire species from breeding, and creates a defense against an attack that has never even been seen before in a few days, Im willing to bet that hes intelligent enough to find a way to do this, and quickly.

I'd say he is very popular, so popular in fact, that if he does not return is ME3 (or at least shown in the previews) that it would hurt sales. So I fully expect him to return.

Thane is awesome. If you read the dossiers in the LotSB add-on, it will note that Thane is a candidate for organ transplants but he refuses. And there is no treatment available. They could go for a twist and have Thane change his mind about transplants between ME2 and ME3. Otherwise, maybe he'll get replaced with Feron or Kolyat?

Of course I will miss Thane! He was my 3rd go to guy (behind Grunt and Garrus) if I ever need to cover a batter over a huge distance, I bring out Thane who's ability to use the Sniper makes things a hell of a lot easier. I really do hope that if he dies in the 3rd, that he at least goes out in a dignified way. I'd rather that the disease not be the thing that claims him.

For those of you who like him, bear in mind that there is nothing stopping Bioware from just writing his terminal illness away. "Oh hey, Mordin developed a cure. Awesome!"
If BioWare has any respect for their story they won't do that. That would be a blatant retcon of Mass Effect 2. This illness is a major problem, and Hanar scientists have been working on finding a cure for years. Mordin suddenly conjuring up a cure would make no damn sense, even if he is incredibly smart.
dont be so quick to judge man first off mordin is kinda super doctor as shown were he CURED A PLAUGE! not to mention he worked on the most complex viris ever made the genophage. He is more the qualified to cure thane seeing how he has alot more resorces on the Normendy then he did on Omega. Hell while were at it if sheperd told him to focus on a cure to keep thane alive mordin could probily do it in what? a week at most.
(please forgive any spelling mistakes:)

Curing a plague is a lot easier than curing Thane's disease. Thane's illness is a result of the biological composition of the Drell species. They aren't properly adapted to living on the Hanar homeworld, and as a result it began to take on toll on their bodies. Curing that disease would involve modifying the genetic makeup of the Drell. It's not like you just stick a needle in a Drell and say "bam, you're cured". It would to involve a large amount of surgery to rework the Drell's body. And the Hanar have been trying to cure this disease for decades. The plague on Omega is small in comparison to this. It's a completley different thing, and Mordin isn't qualified to deal with it. He doesn't specialize in Drell biology, unlike the hundreds of Hanar who are working to develop treatment for this.

So yeah, Mordin pulling a cure out of his ass makes no damn sense. Even if he is a genius.

Mordin was the best character, closely followed by Garrus, Miranda and Zaeed.

While I will miss him, his funeral might make something interesting in Mass Effect 3.

"EDI: Shepard, you need to change into your black and white armor before you go to Thanes funeral."
Miranda and Zaeed?! A two-dimensional whore with a Lego face and a borderline useless character with no depth beyond GRR VENGEANCE? No way.

Thane was easily the best new character, both for his general badassery, his species, and his personality. Not to mention when coupled with Garrus, you have the best party available. He isn't going to die in "a few months", but I'd imagine a year or two would be the limit, providing a cure or extension isn't found by Mordin or someone else.

I'm assuming the theme of Mass Effect 3 will be a sombre one - All of the races & organisations you've gathered/allied taking part against the Reapers, with characters sacrificing themselves left right and centre.

Even though it'd be a sad start, it'd be rather poignant if the opening scene of Mass Effect 3 is Thane's funeral, should he survive ME2. Still, I hope Garrus, Legion, Thane, Samara and Liara are available team members in ME3. If I can have Reave as a skill without her, I don't mind Samara not being usable.

well sir, color me shocked. 2 reasons for this.

1. This makes sense, and thus makes me sad face
and
2. My topic was revived. o.o

I kinda won't.

I found him to be bland, if not only getting a hold of my attention when doing that creepy memory thing,or when he pulled that ninja shit on his Loyalty Mission.

Otherwise, I found Zaeed, or Mordin to be more likable. Zaeed because he's a bit of that veteran grit that Wrex used to be, which clashed so well with what seemed to be a very clean, environment, even when they tried to peg it as dirty. And Mordin because...well, he's Mordin, and I relate to Mordin. (I talk and even type the same way as he speaks when off my meds.)

As a matter of fact, Salarians live only up to like, what, 40? Ol' Mordin should be stepping into the coffin soon. Don't take him away. :[

PS. Milhouse is not a meme.

EDIT: How could I forget Garrus? Garrus is easily the best character in that game. I'd also miss Joker.

ok think about it this way mordin can ask the hanar for the data they have on it then useing his experiance working on the GEONOPHAGE (the most complex gentic viris ever made mind you)to sinthisize a cure or at the very least a treatment.
(please excuse any spelling errors:)

It doesn't matter if the GENOPHAGE is "the most complex genetic virus ever made". It is still completley different from Keplar's syndrome. It requires knowledge of a completley different species entirely. It wouldn't matter if the Hanar gave him all the data they had. He doesn't specialize in this field. Many Hanar do, and they aren't exactly dumb. If they can't cure it, it makes no sense for Mordin to be able to do so. He's smart, but not a miracle worker.

Uhg mordin works with genetics IE if he had a strand of 'pure" drell DNA (which the hanar probily have) he could and probly would cure thanes disese and before you say he doesnt specialize in the feild of drell he is a GENETISIST which means he works with DNA and DNA while different for each speicies is pretty much the same in how you would study it.

Um, no. That doesn't make any damn sense. The study of genetics is not the same for each species. Especially when these two species are from completley different planets and inhabit completley different ecosystems. You're just making stuff up. Somebody who studies the genetics and biology of one sapient species would not be able to suddenly apply all of that knowledge to a completley different species. That's ridiculous.

But you know what, fine. Let's pretend that Mordin is somehow capable of doing in-depth genetic research on the Drell species in an incredibly short period of time. You seem to be forgetting that Mordin didn't descend from heaven and bestow the genophage upon the universe through the sheer power of his mind. He worked for several years with a team of other incredibly intelligent salarians with unlimited resources. Mordin was not the only one who produce the new genophage. So it makes no sense to assume that he alone could produce a cure for Keplar's syndrome. Especially when he has little knowledge in the field of Drell genetics when compared to the Hanar oh right, I forgot that we are ignoring all logic and assuming that Mordin can magically acquire that knowledge in less than a year.

fine beleave what you want to im done arguing this with you but id like to point out that theirs a chance the HANAR could make the cure just not have a good way to deliver it enter mordin.
