But I'm not even sure they skim read!Catchy Slogan said:I think you should just resign yourself to the fact that people can't be bothered reading, when they can skim-read.toadking07 said:You... you didn't even read my first sentence did you?Zing said:No.
Video games just aren't Art, at least not in the traditional sense, you may be able to find Art in games, but video games on a whole, or a certain video game will never be Art.
OT: I think it's likely that people will remeber popular games, I.e. GTA, Halo... but the less mainstream ones will get a little lost along the way, only remembered by the more devoted fans, unless they get pushed up to a cult classic status in the future. Games don't have to be good to be loved/remembered. Even though it's a film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a great example.
Like you said, I think it'll depend largely on if the game managed to make a splash, whether it be from being a highly play or high selling game, or (hopefully) from inventing a genre or being a creative, original title. I guess I can't really expect them to mention games in the history books, at least not until a war is stopped because of a game.Mechanix said:Only the games that really stand out and make an impact will be remembered. Something big. For example, Avatar really made an impact in the movie world, and I bet many years from now people will look back and say "Damn this movie is really old but really good!"
I think franchises will be remembered more than individual games. Call of Duty and Halo for sure. World of Warcraft of course will be around for a long while, and long after it dies out, it will still be remembered as the largest MMO ever.
It's hard to say what will be remembered.

Getting that out of the way, I'm not sure. I mean, the most popular games back in the day were the ones that were good and original, so I'm not entirely sure about the future.gidge said:What's wrong with everybody? Can't anybody read?
He's not asking if games are art he's asking what games you think will be remembered.
