Will Google make a console?

Is there actually an "android" cellphone? I am under the impression Android is merely an OS, in which case, google is still only making software.

And no, I seriously doubt google will make a console. I can't see them breaking into this market too easily and I suspect they'd agree and shy away until circumstances change at least.

Ya but Sony had 1 thing this gen doesn't have right now. Sony had competition it could beat. Sony killed the Dreamcast and the 3D0. And that left Sony and Nintendo to fight it out. Now though we just have the 3 big boys. Anyone trying to get in now would be stupid.

That being said it was off the back of Nintendo. This would be off the back of no one.

Three consoles is enough though, honestly even two would have been fine, there's only so much you can differentiate three products from each other (games being the main thing obviously).

I hope none of them does. 3 competing consles is already too many.

If nintendo, microsoft and sony could merge their gaming departments, ditch the greed and start pleasing the gaming gods of arcadia by putting out the ultimate one gaming platform to outgame them all i would be happy.
Console wars would be history as all gamers would rejoice and play toegather, dismissing such things as hatred for 360, PS3 or Wii owners, now everybody else is merely a n00b-tuber, knife-fag, rusher-scum or fucking camper.

Google has been the top search engine for a long time, and Microsoft has been the top PC software developer for a long time. But now with Bing, Chrome, and Chrome OS thrown into the mix, we're beginning to see a rivalry between the two companies. Do you think that Google's next play in the rivalry will be to create a game console to rival the Xbox 360/whatever Microsoft console is out when they make it?

I personally doubt they will, at least not for a while if they do at all. I kinda wish they would though, Chrome OS is going to be awesome and I would love to have a Google console.

Google is interested in data, and providing services that gather data.

Gaming would not do this.

One, I hate Apple and I hope to God that they never come out with a console. Two, I wholeheartedly agree, three is perfect the way it is and more would be absurd. Thirdly, you're crazy! If they combined into one even half-way decent console all thoughts of capitalism would be gone and they would simply have a monopoly on the market. The Wii has already dropped out of the competition as far as upscale gaming is concerned; leaving PS3 and 360 to battle it out when it comes to better games, lower base prices, and better hardware upgrades such as HDD space. An oligopoly (big economic word meaning 2-5 big companies that control a market) presents just enough competition to keep the business healthy. Personally, someone mentioned PS3 with Chrome and 360 with Bing. I think that's an awesome idea. I have both consoles and highly prefer the PS3 for casual use because it actually has a browser. 360's don't have anything except for the recent Twitter and Facebook crap that doesn't even work that well. Maybe Sony should read this more often.

Heeeeey, Apple coming out with a console? Now there is a thought that makes sense. I can imagine it now. A little white box about the size of a Gameboy, yet still capable of HD graphics, internet capability, movies, and music playback. And due to its small size, it could slip into your pocket and function as an Ipod, too. I'm not saying there's enough room for them in the current gaming market, but I'm already having fun imagining it.
