Will Google make a console?

I would imagine Apple putting out a console before google, they're kidna used to selling hardware and competing with microsoft already.

I hope none of them does. 3 competing consles is already too many.

If nintendo, microsoft and sony could merge their gaming departments, ditch the greed and start pleasing the gaming gods of arcadia by putting out the ultimate one gaming platform to outgame them all i would be happy.
Console wars would be history as all gamers would rejoice and play toegather, dismissing such things as hatred for 360, PS3 or Wii owners, now everybody else is merely a n00b-tuber, knife-fag, rusher-scum or fucking camper.

One, I hate Apple and I hope to God that they never come out with a console. Two, I wholeheartedly agree, three is perfect the way it is and more would be absurd. Thirdly, you're crazy! If they combined into one even half-way decent console all thoughts of capitalism would be gone and they would simply have a monopoly on the market. The Wii has already dropped out of the competition as far as upscale gaming is concerned; leaving PS3 and 360 to battle it out when it comes to better games, lower base prices, and better hardware upgrades such as HDD space. An oligopoly (big economic word meaning 2-5 big companies that control a market) presents just enough competition to keep the business healthy. Personally, someone mentioned PS3 with Chrome and 360 with Bing. I think that's an awesome idea. I have both consoles and highly prefer the PS3 for casual use because it actually has a browser. 360's don't have anything except for the recent Twitter and Facebook crap that doesn't even work that well. Maybe Sony should read this more often.

Your hate of apple is irrelevant to what i said, what i said was that i think they'd be more likely to put out a console than google. not that it would be better or worse.

I'm totally aware that competition is needed for the companies to keep doing things whole-heartetly, hence the "ditch the greed and start pleasing the gamingods..:" part. it's hypothetical, or rather utopic speculation, i'm fully awar ethat in rallity this would A never happen and B not be good for gamers.

I really don't like the PS3 for non-gaming/movie purpose (i like it for gaming), sure it has a browser, but it sucks compared to a computers.
Navigating teh internet with a controller is like trying to paddle a boat with a spoon.
I'll keep using my consoels for gaming which they're made for and good at, and for watching movies, but anything else is of no importance to me, untill the make the XXX version that gives blowjobs when you complete challenges.

Chrome OS actually won't be that amazing, all it does is aim to reduce you using your harddrive, which isn't necessarily a good thing.

COnsidering how profitable the video game industry has become, I don't doubt other major companies are considering ways to get a piece of the pie. I'm confident google probably has some group examining the possibilities, budgeting, testing the waters to see how many developers would be willing to sign on, industry technology, etc. But I don't think that the possibility of the "Googlecon gaming system" is anything more than a conceptual gleam in some nerd's eye at Google headquarters.

We have a better chance of seeing the Apple "iPwn" gaming console first.

You'd be a fact finding, GPS-and-sat-map using vigilante crime fighter in a 3D person style shooter/action game with forced stealth and vehicle sections.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to be respectfully disagree does it? You don't need a Nobel Prize to say no without being a jerk.

And yes, I do think so, they may not have the intentions now but it is very possible. You know why?

Sony started off developing speaker systems, they branched off into TV's, music players and finally decided to go with the play station.

Microsoft started off with low level computer hardware before destroying Macintosh and programming windows.

Both companies were not necessary gaming related, they were both tangible of the industry and yet here they are as part of the race with two of the leading consoles in the gaming industry today, with Sony high up there in the hand held battle as well. Apple has the iPod and it was restricted to just music but here the iPhone and iTouch are, actual legitimate hand held consoles.

With internet and P2P gaming an essential component of gaming what makes you think the most powerful virtual company in the world would not step in sometime in the future to take it's place in the gaming industry?

So yes, that is why Google could possibly make a console. So you just made yourself look like an ass for no reason.

Not likly at the moment. Its unlikly that there will be any new commpetitors on the market untill some pretty radical new tec appears. reason why, if ur a game developer why would you take the risk of designing a game on a completly new and unknown system when u can just go with what you know?

What exactly are you basing this statement on?

The Chrome browser. Its not faster, more innovative, more useful, etc. than Firefox, for example. In fact, I would go so far as to say it's less so, in each catagory.

I've no idea about the OS, though. Let's just say I'm somewhat skeptical.
