N-n... no, I was responding to "I think it's too late in the competition to join" when I pointed out that Microsoft joined just last generation.DeadlyYellow said:What about it? What could a fourth(read:fifth) console offer now that isn't already on the previous 3? It has no exclusives nor brand backing.FROGGEman2 said:What about... last generation?
The only real hope I see for another console surviving is if it started open competition with the Zeebo, targeting other markets aside from the big Three.
Microsoft had related public branding. Since Windows is seen as the largest PC gaming platform, a dedicated console should really have not come as any surprise. What's the Google brand known for?FROGGEman2 said:N-n... no, I was responding to "I think it's too late in the competition to join" when I pointed out that Microsoft joined just last generation.
Ok, how about a gen before, when Sony joined. Everyone laughed- what the fuck were they known for? Hardware!DeadlyYellow said:Microsoft had related public branding. Yes. The Playstation spawned from the whole SNES-CD ordeal. They used their developing hardware system to push for a standalone console.FROGGEman2 said:[Ok, how about a gen before, when Sony joined. Everyone laughed- what the fuck were they known for? Hardware!
...Now look.
So? Google has experience with software AND MARKETING which is easily enough to propell them to the top. I'm not saying that it's going to happen, I'm just saying that it's a possibility.DeadlyYellow said:Yes. The Playstation spawned from the whole SNES-CD ordeal. Don't use use Bing, don't use Chrome, won't use the OS.Anticitizen_Two said:Google has been the top search engine for a long time, and Microsoft has been the top PC software developer for a long time. But now with Bing, Chrome, and Chrome OS thrown into the mix, we're beginning to see a rivalry between the two companies. Do you think that Google's next play in the rivalry will be to create a game console to rival the Xbox 360/whatever Microsoft console is out when they make it?
I personally doubt they will, at least not for a while if they do at all. I kinda wish they would though, Chrome OS is going to be awesome and I would love to have a Google console.
I'd question the marketing, but I'm not exactly sharp on business ethics. But let's take a slightly different look at it: What could Google possibly offer gamers that are not currently filled by the 360 or PS3 (or Wii if you feel so inclined?)FROGGEman2 said:So?
