I love Metal Gear but I haven't been able to upgrade my system to the PS4. I'm really excited about The Phantom Pain but I'm worried I won't be able to play it for another several years until I get $500. So I'm looking to the PS3 version but I fear it will be near unplayable. I never played Ground Zeroes so I don't know how that worked on PS3 but I don't want to spend money on a game that's only notionally playable. At the same time I don't want to spend years waiting to play this game. I don't know when or if I'll ever have a PS4. So what should I do? Would it be worth it to just buy the PS3 version of The Phantom Pain?

If you don't have a modern gaming PC or PS4, then yeah, it'll be fine. I had Ground Zeroes on PS3. It plays quite nicely. All you'll really be missing is some greater graphic fidelity.

I'd say check out some videos of the PS3 version of Ground Zeroes on youtube and judge for yourself.

After playing the game on PS3 and then on PC on maximum settings (I can't speak for the PS4 version, but I assume they are pretty close in quality) I would say you would be selling yourself short if you got the PS3 version. I'm not saying pass it up, definitely play it. But seeing all that extra graphical prowess at work is quite stunning, and extremely worth it. Saved data from Ground Zeroes into The Phantom Pain will allow you to transfer completion records cross-platform, so if you ever decide to upgrade you can simply carry your files over and continue on.

I don't see all this "it's not running at 60FPS and in 1080p" bullshit. As long as it runs at 30FPS, I am happy but even saying that after 5 minutes of "WOAH, isn't it pretty" I am more interested in gameplay 'cos I get sucked into that world.

So if you're like me, get the PS3 version and don't worry. If you're more of a snob about FPS or resolution, then save up for either a PS4 or PC
