as much is i'd LIKE to see the xbox go away, realistically, not gonna happen unless they get tired of it or start losing money hand over fist.
though i do kinda agree they seem to be in a tough spot, (feel free to enlighten me if wrong) but aren't the 'exclusives' just Gears 3 and Halo 4? well exclusives that aren't for they're 'eye toy 2' (wanna talk about gimmicky bullshit, Kinect defines it, also, Fable doesn't count as exclusive, i can get it on Steam)

course that said :p Sony's done nothing to get me interested in anything they've shown, and the ONLY game I've heard about I'm interested in is multi platform :p
Why do we want the xbox to go away? Sony's shown they're massively incompetent with online stuff, Nintendo's online offering is laughable, without them we're back to 2004.

As long as they have people prepared to swear loyalty to the Xbox and only the Xbox, it seems like it would be a good idea to keep producing them. Anyway, Sony is in a worse position right now with the PSN issues. I don't know what they're going to do to get some of that money back and I would say it's more likely that they'll die. Not that either of them will though. They have so much to cut back before they go bankrupt.

That's interesting. Do you have a source I could look at? Wikipedia has nothing and I have no idea where else I could look...

I seriously doubt that they would drop out of the console game any time soon. I may not care for Microsoft much, but the 360(aside from hardware issues that from my understanding have nearly been resolved.) is a good system that has good games and lots of fans who will be happy to buy their next console.

Seeing that the 360 has been turning a profit since the second quarter of 2008 I can't see why Microsoft would want to make another one.

I feel when making consoles is no longer profitable is the time they will stop making consoles, wither they are X-Box's, or something new (One generation or many generations in the future). But will they survive?

I hope so, I don't actually own an X-Box, but I understand in order for the market to be competitive there needs to be competition, and right now, the big three seem to like to try pushing out a product that is better then the others.

But all in all, yes, I think they will, they still have the easiest console to make games for, and the fact that they have a massive amount of the Call of Duty demographic ( Which I feel keep it alive as long as CoD is popular and makes money)

P.S. What I ment by that was the people will keep up their investment in the 360 due to popularity in the game, not that the game directly generates revenue for Microsoft.

Yes I think they will make another console, I don't see why they couldn't.

Also I doubt the "rising popularity of the PS3" is going to be a problem, y'know with everything that's happened to Sony. If anything the PS3 is less popular than it was a couple of months ago.

I don't think they'll die out...it's extremely difficult for such a large company to collapse.

Their E3 showing was rather uninspiring, though.

...Although, I do kind of wish Xbox Live Gold was free, but hey, pigs will fly, amiright? I wonder if Microsoft would become more popular overall if they did make it a free service.
If not free, at least cheaper

And for that matter, will there be a PS4? Well maybe not. Not if all these bad things continue happening to Sony.
You mean the one hack on PSN? Has that happened about 5 times and I've simply been on a coma?
I think that he ment the multiple attacks on sections of Sony and the Earth Quake in Japan that did some damage to their profits.

OT- I MS will make another console because they are still making money on the software sales, and even though they don't have as many exclusives, many multiplatform titles are played much more on the Xbox.

I don't see why Microsoft's presentation got so much crap, I rather liked it. There were plenty of cool games features and I actually think the Kinect is looking pretty good.

the bold in my first post:: i dislike Microsoft, the Xbox is little more the a poorly veiled cash grab to me, that's why

the bold in your comment:: online needs to matter why? if anything it's hurting gaming as i see it, sure, its bring a lot of gamers together, great, awesome, never a bad idea to have a multi-player component, MY issue is that pretty much seems to be the sole focus of every big title i hear about, to the point i pretty much ignore E3 or release news in general.

i mean, E3 is here, and passing and only 1 (ONE!!) game has me interested so far, only one, Darksiders 2, that's it, ether I'm getting to picky or I'm just out of touch with WHY i need to care about something 'online' ability's, survived 20+ years with out it, and its not really made it any better for me so failing to see why it needs to matter

I honestly didn't think Microsoft's showing was that bad, I'm actually really interested to see how far they will go with Kinect

yes it's a grab at the causal gaming market, but it's also a fantastic piece of technology

not only could it spark really interesting game ideas, but it's useful outside of the gaming industry, which means it can (and does) sell to people who don't even own an xbox

just some food for thought

you know the Xbox 360 is the only home console ever to have increasing sales during every year of its existence, and that the Kinect, despite being fucking ridiculous and kiddie, has sold over 10 million units already... i dont think i even need to mention the fact that they just announced that Halo, their flagship series, is getting a whole new trilogy (not to mention an HD version of the first game).

i think MS will be just fine.

although i know there is no need to worry about any of the big 3, Nintendo seems to be in the worst shape (imo). all theyve been doing for the past 5 or so years is regurgitate the same game series year after year after year.

last couple of years: hey were going to come out with remakes/reboots of Super Mario, Donkey Kong, and even Kirby for the Wii!

now: hey, were going to do the same exact thing weve been doing for the past couple of years, but with the 3DS!

seriously, i bet would most people would be hard-pressed to be able to come up with just one or two NEW game series' for the Wii that managed to gain enough popularity for at least one sequel. all i can come up with is like De Blob...

and i cant think of a single game that Nintendo has in the works that doesnt have anything to do with Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Metroid, Star Fox, Pokemon, or any other Nintendo-owned series that has been around for over 12-20 something years.
No More Heroes
The Conduit
Red Steel (kind of crap, but still)
Wii Sports, etc.
Pikmin
Luigi's Mansion
Fire Emblem (internationally, at least)
Golden Sun

That's just off the top of my head. The problem with saying that Nintendo's in bad shape is that it's not a subjective statement. They're leading the market right now in both home consoles and handhelds, so it is objectively wrong to say that they're in the worst shape.

OT: Microsoft managed to make a console add-on successful. You really think they can't stay around? If anyone is going to leave, it's Sony; they're managing to be in third despite having brand loyalty in Europe and the Xbox 360's sub-par sales in Japan.

Microsoft's non-videogame software will insure that they will not go under due to any failings with their consoles (did everyone forget Windows, Microsoft Office, as well as custom built software for cars and whatnot?). The fact that only NOW Sony has caught up (though they stumbled pretty hard with the PSN hacking) and Nintendo is now really flexing it's muscles with the news of the Wii U means the Microsoft still has the lead in the market as far as hardcore gaming goes (I know tons of people who only use the Wii for Netflix, odd I know). And let?s not forget Minecraft is coming to Xbox so you poor console players will have to face the Great Devourer, may God have mercy upon your souls.

How I predict the next gen console wars is going to go is that Nintendo releases the Wii U and a year or two later Sony and Microsoft release there next little whatever. During this time Nintendo builds a solid game lineup so that their developers will have a advantage over their Sony and Microsoft counterparts due to the fact they have already been working with the tech for over a year where as Sony and Microsoft developers must split their time learning their new hardware and building their game. Nintendo's lead will disappear as the newer and more powerful Playstation and XBox consoles start the truely show their potential, but not before Nintendo makes a killing. They continue to release Metroid, Zelda, Star Fox, and Mario titles to keep the fanbase going while they then start preparing for the next console about three or four years after the release of the Wii U.

Microsoft is a software company; their strategies are cold, hard, and thoroughly calculated. They may not release the most unique games, they definitely do not take risks that could pay off, and they are even less likely to make something truly innovative. But what they do deliver is a solid gaming experience on a powerful console with features that the other companies have proven to work with their own improvements added on.

Nintendo is a toy company; they understand that people wish to be entertained. They have always marched to the beat of their own drum. Innovation is their business and each console (and often game) is a unique experience that may never be repeated again. They do the silliest and most stupid things imaginable yet somehow pull it off. The Nintendo 64 did not use disc based games but still managed to deliver some of gaming?s greatest titles despite limitations and the Wii was about as appealing to the hardcore audience as a salad is to a pack of wolves but they still brought in several cubic fucktons of cash.

And finally Sony; their origins as media company is obvious as often time game play is given a backseat to graphics. They still deliver solid titles and have some great talent making a range of games that appeal to many different kinds of people. They show off with some of the industry?s most artistic titles backed up by good story telling. Sony titles and consoles are a mix of great ideas border lining on pure genius and moments of baffling stupidity to even it out. In this environment Microsoft has its own niche and I see no reason for anyone to say that they will fall anytime soon.

I'm so sick and tired of this site so much. So much doom sayers. So much fanboys. It just sicken me that this is suppose to be a game site and all we do is fight over "Who Has Da bezt Conzol!" Fuck that. Were gamers were suppose to get together and just talk about our games. How they might be improve and have a positive outlook with what the any company is doing. Hell not saying you have to like it. But don't go around saying "X is Dead due to Y" Cause its bullshit.

the 360 has USB ports, am I missing the reasoning behind not releasing keyboards, mice, and a few PC ports? We've been seeing for years that the 360 runs games that turn the everyman's PC diabetic, why the flip not jam Age of Empires on the Marketplace and call it new. If they can build a spankin' model over a special orifice just for Big Brother to watch you play Michael Jackson, why can't they pretend that an Xbox can do PC things and stick it in a pink case with a huge fan on the side, like cool kids dig.

Failing that though, only way they're gonna lose out in the gaming market is if 360-2 is released as a suppository, and even then only with a few casual players.

No, I think Microsoft will try to get the advantage again over Sony, when it comes to their next platform, but I think they will have a tough time with Nintendo wanting to keep their top dog status. I also would like mention that Microsoft are similar to Sony in the sense that they both had no intentions to make consoles in the first place, it was only because of the playstation and Nintendo's messing around, and Sega dying, that allowed Microsoft to enter the console war in the first place.
