I know my computer can run BF3, but I want it to look like it does in the trailers...essentially running at max specs and be able to keep a decent framerate (doesnt need to stay at 60+, but needs to be playable). Here's my stats:

CPU: Intel i7 950 @3.07 GHz (not overclocked)

RAM: 12GB DDR3 running at 1333 MHz (3x4GB)

Hard Drive: OCZ Agility 2 Solid State Drive

OS: Windows Home Premium 64 bit

Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850, 1 GB GDDR5 VRAM, 256-bit

I realize that with just the one video card, I most likely cannot run BF3 at max like in the trailers. However, if I purchase second of the same card and run them in crossfire, will it work? Or do I need 2x Radeon HD 6 series?

Crossfired 5850s should be enough to max it out or close enough to...

However, if you have money shooting out your arse and want to play it on liquidy liquid smooth high framerates while maxed out all to fuck... crossfire a pair of 6990s (which is the equivalent of crossfiring 4 6970s)... or if you want to show some restraint you could go with a pair of 6970s (or a single 6990). Even a pair of 6950s should suit. No point in going any lower than that because the 6870 is the 6000 series equiv of the 5850. No, noone really knows why AMD felt the need to suddenly fuck with their numbering scheme.
