As long as WoW and other MMOs exist, PC gaming won't ever die.
MMO's don't keep PC gaming going. They are a big part but not that big.

PC gaming won't become obsolete, console gaming won't become obsolete and neither will die.

As technology evolves computer companies look like they are moving towards these All-In-One computers. Mac with their iMac just needs to get rid of the keyboard and mouse. I think Dell makes some. Other companies I haven't looked up. With the progression of touch screen companies want to use that as much as possible. Now do you think PC gaming much be wiped from existance? And that we would all be forced to by future generation consoles if we want to game?! I'd find it pretty frustrating to play Call of Duty on a touch screen.

Oh heres an answer for those of you that might say "buy a keyboard and mouse." So here's an answer computer companies are trying to get rid of that.
The all in one would mean that the consoles no longer exist either as gaming would just be a feature rather than being the whole purpose of the device.

As this current gen looks more and more dated PC gaming will draw in more people. Thats my view anyways. If only PC would STANDARDIZE and make integrated graphics all thats needed! Then they would be so much better. One day.

wait, what?

I have a touchscreen computer, typing on it now. Touchscreen computers-- convertable laptops-- are quite popular, and are getting more popular. Purely touch slates have never been possible (correction: they have never sold well) despite various companies competing to sell them.

The personal computer isn't going anywhere-- its going to just be too advantageous to give the users a blue-ray full of the data that they don't feel like streaming.

I find it more likely that consoles disappears-- and I don't care what the OnLive crowd says.

Seeing as the PC can do so much more than a console, and the fact consoles will never be as powerful (I guess they never could scale down Crysis enough for the consoles). my PC is used for E-mail, Internet, Design, entertainment center, office work, gaming, trying to find a cure for cancer via folding, server, video editing, sound work, document creation, simulator and probably some other stuff I can't think of right now; The console can only do at the most four of those things listed.

It will lead to the console market suddenly hitting a wall in development if the PC was finally eradicated, so it's in the console manufacturers best interests to make sure this doesn't happen.

Show me a guy with a computer and I'll show you a guy who's looking for a way to put off being productive for awhile. Games will always fill that role (speaking as someone who played Rome: Total War on campus on his laptop when he was presumably there to work on a paper without any distractions! Damn you, Steam!)

Doubt it. Though I will say to the product companies: DROP YOUR DAMN PRICES! You know how hard it is being 19 without their own computer and no income? :(

No keyboard and mouse? Not gonna happen. How do you think people are going to get their work done without a quick efficient way to do word processing or calculations?

You answered your own question right there. If anything, consoles will become extinct. The trend in console design is to expand their functionality. Consoles are becoming more and more like PCs. They are no longer just platforms for games, they are also include multimedia playback, web connectivity (both for gaming and otherwise), social interaction, etc. Eventually, computers and consoles are likely to merge into something more akin to a PC than a traditional console.

As for input methods, I wouldn't worry about touch screen ruling everything. While it's a very user friendly system for beginners, it's also very limited in its functionality (unless it's a virtual keyboard, but then you might as well have a regular keyboard). If you want something to worry about, it should be gimmicky motion sensing technology... ;)

or maybe a new type of computer will emerge that are factory built for gaming and have otherthings avalable on them?
They could call it a "games terminal." Companies could make their own types of terminals and make games that only work on them. They could tempt other companies to make games for it with promises that marketing costs will be shared.

It seems like an idea that could work for a small amount of people but it is a bit weak sauce compared to a proper computer system. I don't think it would catch on. Consumers are too smart to be so easily manipulated by marketing messages.
isnt that pretty much what game consoles are?
I suppose there might be one or two things about the concept that seem the same on the surface. This idea is totally different though.

It's not about controller VS mouse and keyboard, considering PCs have many types of controllers(joysticks, gamepads, steering wheels, guitars, dance pads, gamepads with joysticks, etc etc etc), and certain consoles have keyboard/mouse attachments. It's about the fact that you can't upgrade your precious 360 to keep up with the demands games have upon your system. That's PC gaming's major strength, and weakness.

Of course not. To many PC gamers and to much profit to allow it to become obsolete.

Until Console FPS'ers stop being a load of bullshit and chips, PC gaming will always be superior.

Even if there is no mouse and keyboard its still a pc and if you can play games on it then :O its pc gaming. I don't tink the pc is going to go anywhere soon especially as pc's change and evolve much quicker than consoles in my opinion. When the pc dies i'll name myself george.

Not unless there comes an affordable way to control a pc with your mind. Also: a console is just a pc which is more limited in its functions (completely focused on and specialized in entertainment) and less easy to switch out one part for a newer part without voiding the warranty.
