Really? I thought it was crippled cause it used those....quarter disc things (what the hell was that, anyway?).
Those disc were to stop all the piracy that came with conventional disc. The reason the cube was crippled was lack of third-party support.

IIRC the PS2 was made to compete with the dreamcast, and if I'm wrong, I'm quite sure the PS2 was already a year old when the gamecube was released. So obviously it wouldn't be as powerful as a gamecube could be. Not that it really matters, the PS2 still had better looking graphics most of the time.

Also saying that "poor controls" is not a valid argument when also claiming it's being fixed is stupid. That's like saying "this car can't move, but it's still a good car because the next model WILL be able move".

Two final points:
1) Saying the wii remote is a good controller loses a lot of credibility when just about every game is easier to play with a controller.(3 games that IMO would be better and easier with controller are LoZ:TP, MP3 and Mario Galaxy)
2)Since Nintendo basically rereleased the gamecube with one new function it just proves that people will buy anything as long as it has "nintendo" on it.(but this is just stating old common knowledge)

Agrees that there's nothing new to the points you make and that GRAPHICS AREN'T EVERYTHING. If you want THE best graphics to distract you with shiny colours, forget consoles and buy the best PC you can put together.

I've said to a few people too, don't blame Nintendo because other game developers aren't putting that much effort into using the Wii-motes. The Nintendo games that I've played on the Wii all make good use of the remotes.

EDIT: You should check your thread titles before pressing the post button.

Nintendo? Releasing childish... games? What a shocker!

During the 1980's and early 1990's no Nintendo game could have the word "bar", nor "bomb" nor "blood" in it. Mortal Kombat was censored byond recognition, Shadowgate and Syndicate had to be censored heavily and over in Europe they had to switch out humans in Contra with Robots and call the game "Probotector" instead. I could go on all day, I'm just getting started here!

Nintendo has always had chilidsh undertones in their marketing of the consoles and even to this day, the Wii hasn't changed that. I'm not proclaiming that Nintendo is the kids console, but they are some very obvious reasons why the games released for that particular console has the all ages variety to it, and Nintendo will most likely never move away from that.

Cept for the welding parts, the Space Pirate homeworld, and the final level. I can't really comment on Halo 3, but those three parts really let Metroid Prime 3 down.
I think attempting to be a story-driven action game instead of the mystery-driven adventure game was its biggest fault.

It works well enough I think, it just seems like such a downgrade from the first two.

I don't know, I kinda stopped playing before any of those things you described happened. Might beat it when I go home for Thanksgiving. Or just play through Mario Galaxy again as Luigi.

Halo 3 I won't comment on, too flammable and I don't feel like it at the moment.

I agree with malestrithe, the ps2 won the previous consule war what's going to stop the ps3? Anyway back to the wii, the only reason people are buying it is because it's new and no offence they're not gamers. I've yet to see a reason to get a wii, it's for children to break. It's only a glorified stick. Think about it, what games are on the wii? Say mario, zelda, and resident evil 4 I dare ya.
Fuck this, and how dare you or anyone. Gaming is not an exclusive club, and whether you play Peggle all night, or CoD4, you are a gamer. If you want games to become a more accepted form of entertainment around the world, you're going to have to stop being so elitist, and learn to include all games, and all people that play them into the classification of "gamers".

And I maintain that Bioshock was a very prominent 360 exclusive, along the same level as Mass Effect and Gears (both of which were released on the PC at around the same time).
Not a bad point, but I stand by my original sentiment that FF and Bioshock are not on the same level. I will admit that the next year and a half is a big time in the generations life cycle where the consoles will begin to root in their ultimate positions for this generation. PS3 could really shake it up and leave me totally surprised, a for the Wii, it is in need of a fresh coat of make-up if it wants to keep up the performance seen so far.

Even if Xbox or Wii takes this generation, nothing is going to compare to the PS2 in this batch of consoles, It is still being manufactured and sold for goodness sake. I couldn't get a GameCube or Xbox to save my life right now. That is very impressive.

To me the Wii was one of the greatest systems ever made. IN THEORY. Nintendo has committed what I am dubbing, "the game cube effect". The Wii is a great idea, however it lacks good graphics and the most game play mechanics are clunky. The use of the Wiimote is often clunky, and it's better to randomly swing the Wiimote in different directions like a moron instead of properly thinking of the way the a game should be played. Another aspect about the Wii that relates to the game cube, is that a majority of the games are... childish. If Nintendo is going to match with the 360 (I'm excluding the PS3 because it's not doing so well that I know of), then Nintendo really needs to make Wii systems with a better graphics engines and they need to fix the controler mechanics that Nintendo promised us. I have a Wii and proud of it, but that doesn't mean it's perfect by any means

What do you think?
Look at me! Holes in your point!

Bad graphics? Did Smash bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime 3 not impress you? Did they offend you in some way so as not to be included?

I'm not sure you are even aware of hal the games on Wii if you say they're childish: RE4 Wii, RE Umbrella Chronicales, HOTD 2 & 3, upcoming gore-fest MadWorld, No More Heroes - need I go on?
I agree it's not perfect, but it's way better than you're making out. It's already a match for the 360 in almost all aspects (online play obviously isn't as good but in terms of originality and innovation it kicks it's arse from here to the Moon, metaphorically speaking). I too own a Wii, and am getting the 60 for my birthday, but Nintendo will always be my favourite.

I guess it was a cruel inevitablilty that this thread would descend into a fanboy slap-fight, but who's moaning? I get a chance to fight for the Beasts from the East (...Nintendo) and exercise my Moan Gland at the same time.

I disagree with all your statements about graphics, I do not think graphics are important. But other then that, yes I agree. I think the future of the Wii would depend on improving their Wi-Fi service to cater more to veteren crowd, or at least give an option to pay for an improved service rather then be forced to use the cheap version that got now. And the attachment for the Wii-mote that is allegedly suppoest to make the motions more effective. Other then that, the Wii is a good console. It could be better then the PS3 and 360 if it just improves the online(which is mandatory for conoles these days) and fixes the remore(which is suppost to be the whole reason to get a Wii).

I just hope that developers take advantage of the new attachment, and hopfully pull in developers that aim at the veteren crowd. I also hope that upgrade the wi-fi. But if they don't, at least the single-player games will satisfy me. Only two problems. Nintendo, get to work.

2. Do not count the PS3 out yet. World wide, it has sold over 14 million units, only 5 million units shy of the x-box 360. While it may be the loser in total sales at this point, it will only go up. Every time the price goes down by 100 dollars, sales increase by 50 percent. My friends and I were waiting for the price to go down to 300 dollars before we attempted to get a ps3. As soon as I get that one, I'll consider getting a 360.
I sorta disagree that price is the only reason its sales can increase - the release of a good exclusive is just as likely. Guessing around 1,000,000 consoles sold per major exclusive (A fair guess, I'm sure you'd agree), I guess the Ps3 will overtake the 360 in....mid 2009. Or maybe about this time 2009, depending on the order they're released in.
You are probably right. I got my playstation 2 when Kingdom Hearts was announced. I was more interested in playing that game than any other game that year. I am pissed that I will not be able to play Little Big Planet until January when my financial aid check arrives.

The Wii is the best system for me. I don't play games all that often, so I really don't care about anything on my 360 anymore. I don't play games enough to justify buying long games. When I game I'm looking at maybe 15 minutes, and I want to get something out of that time. I can play one level in Mario Galaxy, put it down, and have a great experience. If it takes me 20 hours to get the experience, I'm never going to get it. I simply don't have the time to spend hours on games. Unless it's really good and something fun in small doses, than I'm not going to buy it.

If you find yourself wondering why the Wii is so popular, it's because of people like me. You guys are in the minority.
