Will the Wii became the Game Cube?

The Wii will most definately not be a Gamecube.

However, what i'm afraid of is that the Wii will become a fad just like Pet Rocks and whacky hair-dos.

If the Wii did not have motion control, then I believe it would most certainly failed right on the spot. Infact, back when they announced the "Revolution" before we knew what it did, I was completely convinced it was going to do just as well as the Gamecube did.

But then I saw the motion control! Oh the motion control! It looked so amazing and innovative! It looked like it would open up new possibilities for my love of gaming! It was innovative!

And I fell for it.

I was just like everyone else, gawking at the motion control and control of motion. It looked so innovative, it looked like it would revolutionize the way gaming was meant to be played.

And I was wrong.

I got my Wii a few months ago, and I have barely touched it since. It gets old, the motion control. No game so far has come close to using the Wii's potential to it's fullest, and the games that come from the very company that make the Wiis barely have any motion control if any at all, let alone use it in new and interesting ways (using the Wiimotes to unlock doors in Metroid is getting old).

So many people have faced the same thing as me, we play it and we love it. Then we just get bored with it, just like many fads of the day.

This is what I'm worried about, as soon as the "next big thing" comes out from anyone, everyone will jump around on that. Everyone will want one. Everyone will forget the Wii.

That is what I'm afraid of. That the Wii is...just a fad.

Well it's still selling like crazy, and every console in the future will have some form of motion control. It would be stupid for a company to not add it anymore. If it was a fad, it would have slowed down a while ago and motion control would be eradicated from all of gaming.

Seriously, it's like trying to say the DS is a fad anymore.

Wasn't house of the dead first released on the saturn? And that is the first time I have EVER heard gamers being referred to as elitist.

Nontheless, I'm still worried. It takes a few years for fashion to get "out-of-style" so who knows? Maybe in a few years, everyone will get tired of the motion control.

I'm not saying it is a fad, I'm just worried that it's fad.

But the 360 is losing Gears of War 2 as an exclusive title (I heard).
This is impossible as Epic agreed to have Microsoft Games publish the Gears of War series. Microsoft Games now and forever owns the exclusive rights to the Gears of War series. Epic can and will be sued for ten of millions of dollars should they ever decide to try and publish any of the Gears of Wars games on the PS3. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE.

And no, the Wii is all ready WAY passed what the GameCube ever was. Even though I personally hate it and think the controller is a piece of gimmicky crap, it is undeniable that the Wii will be a freight rain of success for years to come. It is unstoppable. The GameCube was the Ford Pinto of success, it blew it self up. I loved my GameCube a lot too.

Dissection time! I took it upon myself to fix spelling and clean it up for the kids.

Technically the Wii is composed of plastic, silicone, metal, and a few other ingredients. For those willing to step back from the 'Not X-box' philosophy and see any gaming system for what it is, they can enjoy them equally.

Nintendo is doing what they always do: giving you a gimmick and then laugh as idiots go mad over it.
The same could be said of all systems really.

Take away the Wii's controller, what's left? Poor graphics, bad gameplay, and childish games.
Graphics are a minor issue for many gamers. I'm not going to buy identical games for different systems based on graphical quality. The major factor there is mostly price followed by personal bias.

Besides, the whole issue is relative. You don't need 20000+ polys and a dozen shading maps to make something look good. All games are pieces of art, and all have potential to be beautiful.

If anyone knows why it sells so well, tell me.
Marketing, fan base, and numerous other factors attribute to the popularity of an item.

And don't give me this crap about the controller. The controller for it is a waste of time. It makes playing harder, so its just a gimmick.
Redundant. Anyways, I'll agree it's gimmicky. However, it does go well with some of the releases. I suggest Resident Evil 4 sometime. The controls are set up well, and the fact that you have freedom of aim really amps up the fun.

But there's more! The Wii has a good selection of classic games available for purchase and download, and backwards compatible with the Gamecube. Nintendo has had a lot of solid titles in the past, and it is good to go back and play them again without the babying of emulators.

Gamecube was the second most powerful system of that generation. It was more powerful than the PS2 and the Dreamcast (not hard to do BTW).
I'm not so sure about that. The Gamecube couldn't graphically compete with the PS2 and the Dreamcast was easily a match for the PS2 in most areas. I would argue it is the least powerful of that generation. Having owned all three of them I can say that with some authority.

Funny how a gimmick has created the fastest and high selling console of this generation and most importantly one that is actually sold for profit and I would always claim that a companys main job is to make money and the Wii is certainly making more money for nintendo than PS3 is making for sony.
The Wii has dropped out from the race and instead tried to gain a market with people who don't play consoles a very risky move if you think about it and sure it might not be popular with established "hardcore" gamers but if you think that is a negative in reguards to the Wii you have clearly missed the point entirely.

Someone else on the Escapist posted that essay, but it pretty much sums up what I just said.
That would be me, although I might not have been the first. I strongly urge people to read that article before digging out the tired old arguments against Nintendo. It's a bit long and a bit biased, but there is a lot of interesting information in it. What it states is basically that Nintendo cares about preserving video games as a hobby (and a purchasable product) and making sure that a new generation of gamers will exist, while simultaniously profiting on it.

I don't understand the question; The Wii is a gamecube. What's wrong with being a gamecube?

From popular mechanics "When it comes to the actual specs, the Xbox is the most powerful with a 733-MHz processor, leaving PS2 and GameCube in the dust at 295 and 485 MHz, respectively. It also comes with a 233-MHz graphics processor and 64MB of total memory."

So when it comes to processing speed the last gen rankings were xbox-Gamecube-PS2 and dreamcast...And when you consider when each system was made that kinda makes sense. Now what developers do with that power is another matter...But games made for gamecube and PS2 offer the best comparison as most of the time the cube version looked a little better (RE4 or most multiplatform titles).

Really? I thought it was crippled cause it used those....quarter disc things (what the hell was that, anyway?).
Those disks didn't effect graphic quality or processing power...they just limited the total size of the game (which was often remedied by putting game cube games on multiple disks for games like Tales which had a lot of DVD quality video- still only 25 games did this meaning it wasn't that big a problem). Each of those discs was about 1.5 gigs in size (which is bigger than the PS2 purple discs and UMDs) which is smaller than a typical single layer DVD (4 gigs) but if you weren't going to show lots of video then it really didn't matter.

If anyoe knows why it sels so well tell me.

The controller for it is a waste of fuckking time, it makes playing HARDER, so its just a gimmick.
1. I bought it for the First-party developer and becouse my girlfriend is addicted to nintendo.

2. Thats the producers fault, most game from nintendo play and look really good even on a 52" (at 480i).

3. throw a party, have people play w/e(mario kart works) and 1 week later they will come telling you they bought one, kinda like the GH/RB phenomenon.

4. now im 100 % sure you havent played anything other then wii sports. Play Resident evil 4 /twilight princes/metroid 3 (then 1 and 2 on the gc) with a controler and then w/ the wiimote, I have all 3 plataforms here and if I didnt have a gaming pc ild get cod5 and 007 quantum of solace on the wii. Try playing MoH: Heroes 2 and the controls alone will make you want to force the white useless stick down your 360/ps3 throught every time you have to aim.
