Will There Ever Be a FINAL Fantasy?

With 14 main series sequels, countless spin offs, the occasional straight sequel and a few re-makes, will Square-Enix ever make their Final Fantasy?

Well they've still got FFXIV and FFXIII Versus to release before they can call it quits, so it won't be any time soon.

I think if there ever was a "Final" Fantasy, it would be the remake of VII. That thing would surely sell like wildfire and would tie off the FF legacy nicely.

I'm not sure about this, but I once heard that Final fantasy was the last videogame square thought they'd be doing before going bankrupt, back in the days. The game was so popular though, that they kept the title ever since.

Also, maybe it is merely a poor japanese translation, from dissidia wiki : Brink of Delusion is synonymous to Final Fantasy.

Or maybe "Final" isn't about the serie but in the game. Since they always save the world and bring back peace, it was the final fantasy of that world....

All in all, I guess you shouldn't read too much into it ... It's like asking "Will the devil ever cry?"...

In my dreams, maybe? I sure hope so. And I can assume, that someday in the future they will let the franchise die, but not fast enough for me. Because that particular dead horse apparently isn't horse hamburger yet, and they've got to make sure they get any clumpy bits.

OT:Final Fantasy is just a cool name for a fantasy game. It's a franchise where almost every single game is disconnected, so they're practically separate games. No, there won't be a FINAL Fantasy.

AS long as Sony continue to employ Square Enix yo make the Final Fantasy series, there will never be FINAL final fantasy. And as long as Square Enix continues to make Final Fantasy, Sony will continue making money and so Sony will continue to employ Square Enix and They'll continue to make Final Fantasy and Sony will make money- AAAGH!!!

Well, it'd be nice to see Square Enix attempt to make other games for a change. They've got all that talent but they keep using it on the FF series. How about a re-make of Parasite Eve 1+2? Now that could be interesting.

I sincerely hope not. Considering (almost) every single Final Fantasy is a seperate universe and usually very different gameplay-wise, they pretty much have unlimited potential. I'll keep buying the games till the day I die.
