Will There Ever Be a FINAL Fantasy?

I have a friend who made me buy FFXII for the purposes of showing me that, ahem, "IT'S A CLASSIC!" I guess I was doing it wrong, I suppose you can only enjoy them when you play the first eleven games before XII so your arse is so numb you don't care about the gameplay any more.

I jest. But FF isn't for me.

On topic: of course. As repete said, it'll stop when it stops being profitable. Or when the company goes out of business, I suppose, which would probably require that first reason to happen.

Must admit, i was a lil surprised when i saw Hub of all people banned. He has picked up some mod wrath recently though so who knows, maybe it is for real.

Seriously, Final Fantasy has a blind following and Squeenix will ALWAYS make money off of it, no matter what they do with it.
A decent amount of people didn't seem like to like FFX but they still bought FFXII and so many people hated it (which was a shame because I loved it) and then they STILL bought FFXIII. See where I'm going with this? Even if people hated it, they'll still buy the next one, feeding the bottomless pit that is Square Enix. It's a vicious cycle.

(not that I'm complaining that much, since I do like FF too...)

Maybe they will never make an ending to the series purposefully, but some day I think they will just decide not to make a sequel. Maybe because not enough people bought the last game, because they got tired of making FF-games or because of some other reason. But as it looks now, I don't think they will purposefully make The Last Final Fantasy.

I'm not sure about this, but I once heard that Final fantasy was the last videogame square thought they'd be doing before going bankrupt, back in the days. The game was so popular though, that they kept the title ever since.

Also, maybe it is merely a poor japanese translation, from dissidia wiki : Brink of Delusion is synonymous to Final Fantasy.

Or maybe "Final" isn't about the serie but in the game. Since they always save the world and bring back peace, it was the final fantasy of that world....

All in all, I guess you shouldn't read too much into it ... It's like asking "Will the devil ever cry?"...

Everyone needs to stop being so serious and laughhhhhh a little. I for one thought it was funny.

I enjoyed the first and even kind of loved the second, but I know barely any one who has played or finished either of them.
The adverts for the first we so prevalent I think a lot of people bought it but never finished.

Anyway, on topic. I'm sure there will be a "final" fantasy. Just not for a LONG time. And when that time comes, I'm sure said "final" fantasy won't be the end of the franchise, just the end of that title. (as they'll likely have hit a number that makes it hard to print the title on the box)

I managed to buy the second one, and even completed it. (The extra guns and game modes on completion really gave the game replay value.)

Though I never did get a copy of the first game, I looked high and low for it - but I could never find it.
