For some reason there are a few characters Hollywood just can't get right (I'm looking at you Victor Von Doom).
Well, those Dooms were from terrible Fox movies, and they have a spotty record with being faithful to characters even in their good movies. I don't think it's yet fair to say that Hollywood can't do him right.

The problem I see with having Hulk as the main character, is the fact that he, by nature, has to try and be a neutral, laid back kind of guy, to be a human. And having main protagonists in movies that, by design, strive for The Dude in their mental state, doesn't make for a really action intense character. We can't see them get angry at an injustice (without Hulking out and causing destruction), we can't see them...well, basically emotional in any way. So, you end up having The Dude for the talky scenes...and then switch to Walter when action comes around. Neither character really holds up on their own, as they are, by their very nature, 2 polar opposites of a normal person.

Hulk is in the next Thor movie!?

Well damn. TIL I'm interested in the next Thor movie after all.
Yeah, one of the descriptions I've heard was that it's like Hulk and Thor in a buddy cop movie in Asgard. How can you not smile at a pitch like that?!

Now I want to see The Dude and Walter in a film with Hulk.

I have so badly wanted a planet/World war hulk movie for awhile. Seeing a well done worldbreaker Hulk would be kind of awesome.

They fucked up their chances of making the Hulk talk TWICE, thus ending any possibility of have any true solo movies because you can't have a superhero movie where the main character does not talk... Society's not ready for that kind of superhero movie!

Other than that, I can only wish and have to settle with the animated movies instead...

The Hulk not talking is one of the things they get wrong. He does talk. Let him talk. One of the best runs in the comics has Banner as a quiet loner trying to avoid conflict, but a mysterious group very much wants him to Hulk out, at which time he is no longer a quiet loner.

Here's the reason why we won't be getting another solo Hulk movie anytime soon:

To summarize: Marvel is currently sharing the movie rights to the Hulk with Universal. So while the Hulk can continue to appear in other Marvel characters' movies, he won't be headlining his own feature unless Marvel and Universal can come to an agreement.
Yeah and given the amount of money Marvel are making with their movies right now, we'd need a hammer and a crowbar to break the deathgrip Universals lawyers will have on that property.

They're gonna hold onto that until Marvel drives up to the front of their offices with dump trucks of cash either metaphorically or literally.

I think that the issue with having Hulk talk is that it would become too comical, and they're already pretty lighthearted movies. It's the difference between Cap telling Hulk to smash and either it being followed by him smiling and running off to smash things or him saying "Puny flag man shut up" and the running off to smash things. It's funny once in a while, but once you have him being a regular talker, it kind of hamstrings you that now he HAS to talk. I hope that made some sense... it's early and I'm tired.

Universal doesn't actually have the rights to making a Hulk movie, Marvel can make one at any time if they wanted to. However they would have let Universal distribute the film, and thus give them a large chunk of that Marvel coin. Makes more sense business wise to do something like have him share a movie with Thor, and keep all the money.
