Yeah, they actually made one, but it was simply so much more awesome than the average Zelda game that they had to change the name to Okami.

Flamewar inducing proclamations aside,
it was the first Zelda game for the fifth-generation era. The combination of 'first 3D Zelda' and 'Mainstream Maker Generation' factors added A LOT to the game's so called legacy.

So yeah, honestly, it's over-hyped in the same manner that, for example, Final Fantasy VII is.

Good? Definitely. But don't overdo it...
Pure technically, every home console sequel has become better and better to a certain extent. And Majora's Mask did have a couple of visionary elements as opposed to Ocarina.

One day they might, but I can't see it happening too soon. OoT is well rounded but it's one of the best games out there because it was just so well designed. The temples are giant puzzles and you face many interesting challenges a long the way while solving it. All the items are useful in just about every situation, and discovering hidden shit too. The bosses are epic and are pretty difficult the first time around, plus there are more of them than usual. The atmosphere and music is powerful and memorable. And of course, it was a big influence, it introduced the targeting system and context-sensitive buttons which has just about been in every game after.

Very difficult to top but it's very possible. When I see Link climbing on giant monsters finding weak spots while the beast scares of people with music in the background so awesome that I would listen to it as often as rock, then that will set a new standard. Or even escaping a tornado, avoiding houses and shit thrown at you with sounds so realistic it would make me crap my pants, then that would top everything. I wonder if any developer ever goes to see epic action movies and say to themselves "we should make a game where that is possible"?

This, absolutely this. Ocarina was great for its time, and I can understand why it's special to many gamers, but it really hasn't aged well. After the improvements made by Majora's Mask, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, I find it very hard to go back to Ocarina.

On secodn thought... THIS. Okami was gorgeous and was everything every zelda 'cept ALTTP should have been.

link to the past.
it was large expansive, there were two ways to kill most bosses the long way and the puzzle way. you got many different items to use, the ability to switch between the two worlds worked really well and even when you beat the final boss you will properly still have many things left to do like get the best sword armour etc. most of the bosses were unique, challenging but most of all fun. and I prefer the birds eye view and the training mission only took about 1/2 hour unlike most new zelda games which take 2 hours.

probably not.

And for those of you who say Majora's Mask, it was REALLY GOOD, but I don't think it was BETTER than OoT.

I loved GC twilight princess, and, to be honest, I preferred Majora's Mask to Ocarina. Better atmosphere, vibrant, living town, You can be a Zora... In fact, there we are, Majora's mask is the best because you can be a Zora.
Anyway, there will be a better Zelda game, sure, if Nintendo uses that pile of cash to make a console that is objectively good, not just good on its own merits- one that can seriously stand up to its competitors. Not just in terms of prettiness, either- Zelda needs to evolve, and I believe next-gen is the key to that, however it happens.
Yeah, it'll have to leave the casual gaming crowd alone, but Nintendo has proven itself willing enough to ditch an entire demographic before, no?

When Nintendo starts making proper consoles again then they shall hopefully make proper games again and let the Wii be remembered as just a passing phase like puberty or acne.
Nintendo can return to it's glory days if they listen to what gamers want and not what overweight girls want.

orcarina of time was great but I enjoyed the first ones more. Was it because I was young? or is it because I'm blinded by nostalgia?

No, I still enjoy them a little more.

A better game than Ocarina of Time?

My objective opinion makes me say that there's already one out, and that is "Twilight Princess"

My subjective opinion makes me say that "Majora's Mask" is the better game.

There already is.

It's called Majora's Mask.
You base this on the Graffics?

OOT was Nice and Balanced... And some hardCore Puzzels in it to...
You cant compare it to Majoras Mask... Majoras mask was ok but OOT was more fun plus I had more of a Sandbox Feeling with Majora's mask...

That's your problem there

You have to remember that a game is judged compared to other games in it's own generation. When you play a game, you take into account all the other games you've played or seen. Of course there are better Zelda games, but OOT was literally the best action RPG of it's time and no other zelda game has come close to matching it

It's like judging SMB3 vs Galaxy.. Obviously Galaxy is a "better" game, but SMB3 was more fun when I played it

and the people saying Majora's Mask either didn't play OOT, or played Majora first because the games are extremely similar, but Majora just pelts you with annoying time limits and restrictions which get stale within the first hour of playing

Please go to the Nintendo head office and say this.

I liked the 2D ones better, so yes.

Please remember that opinions are subjective, so asking everyone if there will ever be a game better than ______ will always have people who believe there already was one.

I think the question itself is wrong, from the answered, the "best" Zelda game is 100% up to the player, there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to the Main stream Zeldas ( The ones for that Philips thing NEVER EXISTED) people love different ones more.

Better question would be, Will they ever make a game series as well loved game to game? It seems to be the least polluted of the Nintendo games (ignoring that odd Crossbow game and NOTHING ELSE SINCE I'VE ALREADY COVERED THEIR NON EXSISTANCE) with non of the Mario in X or Other Ms to pollute the gene pool, even the "not that brilliant" games like Zelda 2 are still leaps and bounds ahead of 90% of the Nes games out there.

Oh and personally Master quest was best.
