It's not that developers don't have the courage to make games that have very mature themes, it's that there wouldn't be a single large retailer in the US (or maybe even the EU) that will sell the title in their stores. Sure, I'm sure there will be some specialty retailers that will sell an AO title, but when you have freakin' HUGE retailers like Wal-Mart or Amazon that simply refuse to sell the game, yeah, that is pretty much financial suicide.
You're right about the retailers but I think you're mistaken about the developers. Well....not necessarily about "courage" per sé, but for the same reason we no longer see hardcore RPGs and why so many games get homogenised into third-person action-adventures. Budgets and "mass market".

No one will develop niche titles because of corporate greed dictating every game has to appeal to the widest audience. The days of niche titles for a target audience are long gone. Personally tho, I don't give a damn about this hentai/porn type games and wouldn't buy it or play it were it given away free.
Yeah, you are absolutely right, as game development budgets get astronomically high (just look at GTA V, jesus), publishers see no other route than marketing the game to the widest market possible to have any possibility of recovering their investments. Though the swing in the market is showing that gamers are starting to get sick of this mindset. There is a resurgence of low budget indie games that cater to niche markets becoming increasingly successful. This is a trend I fully support and hope it continues. Maybe it will be a wake up call to publishers, but I doubt it.

eh you know what, another answer is 50 shades of grey exists, has sequels, is an top selling book and is basically what one would say text porn if your look at why people are reading it. Lets just say video games needs another 2000 + years.

Besides, it's just an eroge visual novel. No offense, but I just don't think hentai has any place on consoles. Nor will Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo ever let them be on their console.

Hey, it's cool if you like sex and hentai and eroge stuff, I do, too. It's even cool when some of them know how to really hit the feels where they can be hurt, but those companies just don't want to associate with them and with good reason. Retailers don't carry AO rated games because they know there'd be huge backlash.
there's precedent for it, albeit in extremely limited quantities. I recall that titles like "Do you like horny bunnies?" got release on the PS2 with official english translations. Xplay did a special on it once.

The biggest reason they aren't marketed in other places outside japan has nothing to do with morality; rather, it is because eroge are boring outside their very small niche. A "game" that's basically just cutscenes (READ: static backgrounds with character stills superimposed over them and text boxes) with only the smallest semblance of player control over events is a hard sell, even if you throw in the promise of bare breasts should they say just the right thing to just the right girl.

ah, but I digress...because it's already been said better than I. What would an AO rated game bring to mature storytelling that a game with only an M rating couldn't? I've never seen/played the game you bring up, nor do I wish to, but an educated guess says that incest and its ramifications are involved? If so, why is it necessary to explicitly show the brother and sister boning in order to address this theme successfully? If anything, the explicit sex just makes the whole affair come across as exploitative and fetishistic, which, I won't lie, I'd be willing to bet money this game is, but since I haven't played it, I won't criticize it.

I just finished playing this visual novel Kana little sister.. well yeah its a hentai 18+ novel but it surprisingly uses its AO rating to actually tell us a good mature story.

So when will we actually see microsoft&sony allowing AO games to be made for their consoles ? i mean what's the big deal about AO games ?

Why is A.O rating so taboo ?
AO is a death sentence for corporations in gaming for it means most stores will not hold the game, can't advertise on t.v., and whole bunch of other ed tape that is not worth for big gaming companies or many developing companies to put the money behind such games. None of the companies have the choice under the restrictions for that is the countries laws in place in almost every single nation has bans or major restrictions on AO games. The most mature stories in my opinion come from games that have teen ratings or just barely recie a M rating in the United States, but in other countries it is a teen rating. I am all for a mature setting game with a good story that pulls no punchs, but that takes talent, cost, and effort that most people in the buisness are not willing to make or risk.

The same reason X is taboo. It's associated particularly with pornography.
Whoa... wait.. there is more to AO rating than just plain sex.. like adult south park satire you know ?
Bullshit.You even dispel this yourself.
Yeah whatever i don't care.
Not only that, but if that's your idea of "serious issues," I don't think you're really looking for maturity.
Yeah figure that one out Sherlock.

It also doesn't have a rating. You chose a weird time to start trelying on facts....

Whoa... wait.. there is more to AO rating than just plain sex..
Except I said "it's associated with," not "it's nothing but."

Yes, there is more to an AO rating than pornography. And there's more to the "X"rating, which was replaced by the NC-17 rating than pornography, too. But you asked why it was unlikely to happen. The association exists. Just the use of the term is suggestive of exactly that/

like adult south park satire you know ?
When did South Park become "adult?" It's "satire" is some of the most juvenile, unintellectual crap out there.

Yeah whatever i don't care.
You don't care that your argument is false?

...I don't know how to proceed then. Seriously, if you don't care that your own argument is false, what was the point here?

Yeah figure that one out Sherlock.
What's left to figure out. You appear to want gratuity, not maturity, but grew hostile when people called it.

Let me put this another way: why do you feel you deserve adult games when you cannot even have an adult discussion about them?
