Will you be watching TI4?

So, in a scant 18 hours The International 4 will be starting. TI4 is a DotA 2 (Defense of the Ancients) competition with the highest prize pool of any video game related tournament in history, an impressive $10.5 million. This year there will be main, multi and newcomer streams available for the main event, and probably, a good percentage of the play-offs (though there are a lot of games being played early on).

Are you going to watch? Are you rooting for a particular team? Lets say you don't play DotA or any MOBA, does the idea of a newcomers stream with more of a learning bent appeal to you?

I'm gonna watch as much as I can, work permitting and I would dearly love too see DK do well. Even though I'm English, and one of the European teams would be more of a "home" team for me, you just can't beat a bit of Mushi.

Lets hear your thoughts.

Alliance will win it you heard it here first.

IG will probably get second, DK third. Why don't I think China will take first? Because they tend to choke under pressure.

Actually, it's "Dota 2" - it is not an acronym any more.

Other than that, yes - I shall watch it. I've even downloaded the game to specifically watch the replays in it. Yeah, I've not played in some time, but I still watch videos. Also, I do prefer to see higher level games on my own, so I can rewind and focus on different things at my own pace.

Well there's no acronym anymore to avoid copyright wars I suppose, but I do prefer Dota 2, maybe one day they'll put this word in a dictionary, heh.

Other than that, yes! A million times yes! If I were in the US I'd even buy tickets to watch it live (sold out in 1 hour though).

Competitive Dota 2 is the only thing I'm interested in now, I don't have anything more than a 2 stack with me, so playing on solo just isn't worth the effort.

I'm a Malaysian, there are 2 full Malaysian teams, along with ChuaN in IG and Mushi in DK, so I'll root for those first I guess. If all else fails, Na'Vi it is, call me a fanboy, because I am (albeit a reasonable one).

Yep, I'll be watching with a few friends. Rooting for Na'Vi, C9 and VP. Part of me is hoping alliance gets knocked out pretty early, simply so I don't see as many NPs in pub games.

Should be a lot of fun coming up, can't wait to see what weird stuff C9 tries to pull off.

Still have a sour taste in my mouth from last years International, with all of Alliance's rat doto nonsense and Chinese under performance. I think TI2 was the best TI so far at least in terms of entertainment, especially with some of the more intersting heroes being overpowered (Rubick).

I haven't been following competitive Dota for a long time now, so I really hope Icefraud got his shit together and nerfed some heroes like Naix.

Hoping Navi win or at least make it to the finals. Also rooting for the underdogs Cloud 9.

Nope, I still find the very idea of competitive game tournaments on this scale, especially with the prize pool being over 10 million to be absolutely fucking stupid. People shouldn't become millionaires from shit like this.
How many non-stupid money making methods can you think of? Hedge funds don't count.

I can think of some! How about copyright trolling? Guys hitting a ball with a wooden stick? Powerball? World Series of Poker?

On a more serious note, not completely suprised by this attitude, I'm willing to bet it happened with golf, nascar and soccer and any other number of games that became profitable to the participants.

Nice try, but I think getting payed the amount they do for what they do is incredibly fucking stupid as well.
Well the money is not coming out of your pockets. It's not like your taxes are paying for the tournaments. I don't see why you should care.

OT: Not a fan of the MOBA genre.

Once the pro scene of any sport evolves to such a level, the players stop being mere sportsmen, they actually become entertainers! By thinking this way everything will make sense.

People who play soccer/ baseball/ Dota at a very high level become celebrities, just like movie stars or pop stars, the reason they are being paid so much/ winning so much money is because there's an audience for them, they entertain millions.

Despite knowing nothing about the MOBA genre I enjoyed what I saw of TI3 last year, so yeah I'll probably watch TI4 when it doesn't clash with the World Cup.

I mean, I'll still have no idea what's going on but it's entertaining enough to watch anyway.

There is a specific noob stream this year for people who don't know what is going on.

Because no one pays him to play games and he feels the need to complain about something that doesn't impact him because of it. That and he thinks anyone actually cares what he thinks of it.

I think professional athletes making millions while there are billions living in poverty is stupid, but I don't go spouting that off whenever the topic of player salaries comes up. Which is funny since complaining for those reasons is a more valid point than he's probably coming from, since odds are he just thinks getting paid that much to play games is stupid. Not because there are better uses for the money or because they don't deserve it, but just because it's video games.

I came in to see what TI4 was, not knowing if it was something I was interested in but perhaps didn't know what it stood for.

Definitely not, though.

Damn right i will be, gonna be amazing. Literally no idea who is going to win it, but everyone knows Na'vi will get second place..... although i seriously doubt if they will even get into the quarter finals tbh.

And final should be DK vs IG, but i seriously doubt it as Chinese teams always choke at Ti. Probs will be one Western team, either Alliance or EG, vs one Eastern Team, either DK or IG.

Or Cloud 9 Could just play to their full potential and not lose a single game all tourney, but that is never gonna happen. EE-Sama showing too much mercy, and Bone7 gonna Feed7
