I was moderately hyped as it looked like my kind of game.
Then I saw it was a "PC only" circlejerk.
Really fast paced twitch shooters doesn't work that well on consoles.
Whats twitch about jumping around circle strafing until one player falls down?

I will not be trying it as bethesda are a horrible company.

They can throw a lot of aim assists, auto-aim, double the size of hit boxes etc. They can do a lot to make this game "work" on console.
It would be a bit different game tho, but I'm somewhat sure that they will port it at some point.
They could but they'd be spending money on what would ultimately be a subpar version. Its up to Bethesda but I can totally understand if they don't make a port.

Not really... Games like CSGO, Quake Arena and (hopefully) Quake Champions can flourish because they are competitive and have an extremely high skill ceiling. If you're playing with a controller that skill cieling drops like a rock, add stuff like aim assist and large hitboxes and it drops even further. You're breaking the thing which makes the game fun for 90% of the playerbase. Thats why Counter Strike and Unreal Tournament never really worked out on consoles.

And who decided 90% of the players base wants the "high skill ceiling"?
Furthermore, who decided the console version doesn't have a high skill ceiling just because it's different?

Because I can imagine someone used to keyboard+mouse would get rekt when playing the console version. So how's that for high skill ceiling?
The high skill ceiling is what made the franchise popular. When people play Quake, CS etc etc thats what they are looking for. So without overhauling the gameplay and marketing the game differently thats your target demographic.

Just the regular gameplay decided I guess? You can aim faster and more accurately with a mouse by quite a bit so thats going to raise the skill ceiling higher. The limitations of a controller and the assistance you have to add to compensate for those limitations lower it.

I really don't see what your problem is here, I asked how the hell a game like Quake is supposed to function on console and the reply I got was "By changing the most important mechanics". Um, ok? Its not going to upset me if Quake gets a port, I just don't see it happening for that exact reason. A quick google search will reveal Pete Hines agrees with me by the way, and judging by Skyrim and Fallout 4 you really can't accuse that guy of being all "PC master race" judging by the horrible UI.

"The most important mechanics"?

It's still a first person arena shooter, the weapons work the same way, you still have to aim and do the same things you do in the pc version.

Wait a minute, didn't you open that thread to let all of us know that something or other you couldn't specify just felt sexist? (Maybe you nailed it down later, thread wasn't that interesting so I didn't bother reading all 534243245 pages.)

Yeah as the thread went on I managed to pinpoint what was my beef with that game.

Chiming in, it's pretty much a given that a keyboard/mouse will give you better results in an FPS, if only through the increased accuracy (and to an extent, mobility). That said, I don't see why Quake Arena couldn't be ported to console. You wouldn't have to change the core gameplay, and it's not like an RTS, where you'd actively have to remove features (e.g. hotkeys) in the process to fit a controller.

As for the OP's question, I wouldn't mind, but my PC doesn't have the specs for it. :(

And the frame rate is still a stable 144hz.

Lul.
Wow.
I really AM talking with a PC Master Race!

Doesnt that thread directly contradict your mantra of just letting everyone enjoy what they want to enjoy?[/quote]

Uhu, why?

On a serious note, just pointing out that high frame rate is realllly important for Quake and consoles aren't particularly good a holding even a stable 60. You could make it look like trash so it runs better but does Bethesda really want to sell a game with terribad graphics? Again, this is something the developers themselves have said, so unless you want to push Bethesda into the PC master race too - don't, I like having this one to my myself - you're not making much sense.

Eh, developers say a lot of things.

The same developers who claim "this game couldn't have happened anywhere else but on console/PC/tablet!" can simply come back a few months later and say "we've ported this game also on console/PC/tablet with even more features!".

Tell that to how much I'm playing Drawn To Death.

No, it works just great on consoles, but there's been this weird marketing decision of turning both classic multiplayer ID games (Unreal Tournament and Quake Arena) into PC exclusives.
I mean, the game would WORK on consoles but it'd be pretty terrible. FPS games on consoles are already pretty bad, let alone FPS games that require a lot of precision and reflexes. Which is why I think games like CS and Quake would never make it far on consoles.

Not sure. Quake III Arena is one of the few multiplayer FPS that I have ever truly enjoyed; but I played it with work colleges in after-work LAN parties at the office.

EDIT: Damn that spamming Necromancer above me!
