This could be a good flick for righteously judging others. I'm in.
The creators said it's a non-bashing flick and are fans themselves
The trailer says otherwise. It features prominently grown men in costumes waxing poetic on how much they "owe" the Star Wars franchise and a song with the refrain "George Lucas raped my childhood." Clearly, we are meant to look askance at both parties here and I, for one, can't wait.
the trailer shows them criticizing him and saying they feel bad because they're fans. They're showing people who love him and those who hate him

I've never even heard of this, but I'm strangely curious. On one hand, there's the ridiculously nerdy uber-fans who bash Lucas's newer films, and on the other hand, there's the director who merely directed the films he wanted to direct, whether or not they were actually good (which the latter ones most certainly were not).

Then there's people like me whom Stars Wars has positively impacted (I love the original trilogy), yet are disappointed about Darth Vader having been a whiny teenager without being outraged by it. We just like to pretend it never happened.

The original films were awesome. The prequels were un-watchable. I confess I'm fascinated by seeing what drives a man to do such things.

Probably not. Both sides seem idiotic to me. For one, George Lucas doesn't "owe" these super-nerds anything (please don't flame me over this...I gave my 3rd grade speech in front of my entire school about Star Wars, so I was as big a nerd as any). He made the movie, they paid to see it, end of story. If they don't like them, then tough. On the other hand, the rabid supporters need to wake up and smell the coffee: the last three movies were TERRIBLE. As far as I see it, there were only 3 Star Wars movies, 3 Indiana Jones's, and 1 Matrix.

Right, but it's in the dorkiness of both the lovers and the haters that this movie seems to be reveling in. It's a spectacle of who can be the lamest. The only thing more sad than the people spending significant energies bashing a gazillionaire for turning 2 1/2 good movies into a three-decade-long marketing cash-in are the people who defend said gazillionaire in a storm trooper uniform. And, ya know, people who post about it all on the escapist, e.g. you and I. :)

(Fun Fact - Gazillionaire did not get dinged by the forum's spell checker. Who knew?)

So it's like "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired" how he's well loved and still made into a folk devil.

Except, Polanski directed Repulsion, Chinatown, Macbeth, Rosemary's Baby, The Tenant and The Pianist.

And Lucas directed Star Wars.

Why do people use mouth-breather like an insult? Unless you're some sort of lizard-man monstrosity that can respirate through your pores, you're a mouth breather too...

Star Wars is the pillow that was used to suffocate American cinema to death.
Please, elaborate. Considering that Star Wars: A New Hope was a triumph in special-effects technology, I doubt it was the murderer of American cinema.

I think that that beautiful, gilded crown would have to go to Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

So... eye-gougingly awful.

Lucas metaphorical raped peoples' childhood Polanski literally did rape a child.

You can tell they're the biggest fans, because they hate it more than anybody else. :D

George Lucas is one of the greatest producer in the history of film matched only by Gene Rodenberry. That said he sucks as a director.

Some guy makes a bunch of really popular movies. The same guy gets older, makes some prequels to those movies, but he's lost his touch and the movies are terrible. End of story.

Why is this considered a big enough deal to make a documentary about?

People get an itch, they gotta scratch it. I for one get entertainment value from the prequels, love the original three. Star Wars is a story, it's not the Bible, it's not the endall of all great stories. It's a story.

Looks interesting, but I'll wait to see what people think of it. Honestly I don't think a lot of the criticism of the new Star Wars films is valid. Sure they are childish and poorly written, but so were the original movies. I think a lot of people grew up with Star Wars and now they're just channeling their frustration of losing their childhood into this.
