Okay, so I had an itch to reinstall and play Spore again, and possibly get Galactic Adventures. I've had the game since probably 2010, and when I try to run it (or C&C Parts Pack) I get two error messages saying something about a missing package.

I go to try and fix it via RegEdit, but I cannot find what I need. I have installed and uninstalled the game several times now, and nothing has worked since.

I've heard some peoples' solutions are to download Origin, take the product codes from Steam, and load them via Origin, but I don't want to do that since A. On Origin, EA has to validate that YOU bought the game before you can play it, and B. I bought the game ON STEAM, so I should be able to play it THROUGH STEAM, and not Origin.

Anyone else know any Origin-free solutions to this mess?

Hmm, dunno, it just worked for me. Try validating the installation and see if that helps.

Actually, I just googled the issue and this sounds promising [http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=34319110]

EDIT: I misread and thought you were talking about Darkspore. Sorry.

I don't have the game, but judging from articles and forum comments, it seems that something was changed in the game servers that makes the game unplayable from Steam. Using Origin doesn't invalidate or otherwise your harm Steam copy - I know this from personal experience with Dragon Age. I activated several games on Origin and there was no validation process.
