How many times have you had to re-install Windows?
I just had to, well, not had to, but decided to.

I guess this is a question for the slightly more 'techy' people, because I have friends who still use 2000, because they don't know how to upgrade, and don't want to.

Um...never.

I always end up getting a new computer before having to upgrade. And it has never broken to the point of having to do a system overhaul.

A lot. I'm in IT courses, so we set up a lot of virtual machines that we need to install an OS on.

Pretty much this. Windows has never given me enough trouble to require a reinstall. In fact, the only time I've seen the Blue Screen of Death on my computer is when it was my screensaver for a while.

Do you ever purposefully break Windows? I do, but only if I find an old laptop in the garbage, I fix it, and see how much Windows can handle before it dies.

I only need to reinstall new versions of windows. I have mirrors of base installations on backup drives so I can get back up and running quickly if I end up mangling a system. I usually refresh every 2 years weather the system needs it or not.

I'm going to have to do a reinstall in a few days. Well it's a install as I going to install it to a new hard drive. Stupid old refurbished hard drive.

No. I don't really want to have to set up one of the VMs again, and I need them for classes, so...

On occasion, I do, I've gone 5 years since re-installing XP and I've only had 7 running for about 13 months. I keep a pretty tight leash on how bloated they get. I need to re-install XP again as I just upgraded to Sandy Bridge, I'm contemplating just building an XP box for legacy games. I would in an instant if I could find a resonably priced DVI KVM switch.

Had to reinstall twice, once on my old computer when a virus pretty much wiped Windows from the computer, and once on my family computer when my brother managed to get it infected with a virus a mere two weeks after we got the damn thing. The Windows Vista logo no longer appears when I start it up.

Many times, the last time was due to the acquisition of a new 1TB HDD. Most of the time I don't need to re-install; I just like to keep my installs running smooth and fresh when I upgrade hardware and whatnot.

I have upgraded from Vista to 7 once, 95 to 98 a few times, and 2000 to xp 3 times.
Normally I just Boot and Nuke the drive and start from scratch.

Erm, well... do you mean just for my own personal use? Or are you including favours for friends as well as work-related installs? Including unattended and semi-unattended installs? And how far back? If you include every install I've ever done since Windows 3.1, that's... a lot. Several thousand, anyway. Figure on at least fifty a month on average for the last ten years, and probably five or six a month for the ten years before that.

EDIT: If you mean just installs of my own personal machine, that's still probably nearly a hundred over the years.
